Good news, he might perform a function similar to Jermaine Easter in DC's squad. Couple of fact checks though... "Rovers received plenty of dosh for him". Chelsea signed Sinclair in July 2005. A Football League tribunal set the compensation to be paid to Bristol Rovers at an initial £200,000, with increments ... Chelsea would also have to pay Rovers 15% of the profit on any future sale.
"a biggish bloke" At 5 foot 8 inches, Scott Sinclair is an inch taller than Sam Finley!
🙂 Okay Macc,i admit I did judge his size from a YT video of his PNE goals.A decent 'upper middle weight perhaps (another guess)? After the initial £200,000 ,what did Rovers eventually get, that's what i went with? Chelsea sold Scott Sinclair to Swansea in 2010, for a reported "£500k (rising to £1m, depending on future success)". If we assume the million (as Swansea - under Brendan Rogers - were promoted to the Premier League a year later), then Chelsea would have made a profit of £800k, of which 15% (£120k) would have been due to Rovers. Adding that to the initial fee of £200,000, means that Rovers would have got a total of £320,000 from the "sale" (or would compulsory purchase be more apt, as I remember?). To put that £320k in a little perspective, "Sinclair signed a four-year contract with Premier League champions Manchester City on 31 August 2012, moving from Swansea for a reported transfer fee of £8 million".

Glenn Whelan put his arm around the neck of another Palace player and I think he might have give the skin on the neck a little pinch.
I had to watch the incident about five times by replaying the scene on iFollow - the camera being well positioned to show the detail - but I am still not sure. I AM sure, however, that he didn't contact the player's face, which is the usual yardstick for a red card.
The strange thing is that when the referee and assistants gathered in their huddle, it appeared to be the linesman on the far side of the incident who described what he had seen Whelan do. My view (via the iFollow pictures) would have been much more valid; the linesman was blind-sided.
i think there is a good case for the red card to be rescinded, especially if those who make the decision reflect on the absurdity of punishing Whelan, but not the Palace player who not only pulled back a fast-moving Trevor Clarke by the shirt collar, but then yanked him violently to the ground. I would have thought that constituted violent conduct.
In some ways it's academic, as Whelan probably won't be a starter against Cambridge and any ban would only apply to a competition to which Joey B***** is not committed.

Swindon Town have signed former Bristol Rovers and Wales Under-21 defender Cian Harries on a one-year deal. But he is a defender, and when here he didn't show that he could defend at all, ... Too harsh. He was great at "last ditch" defending, often covering across to get a block in when the opposition had got through on goal. I remember, for example, Walsall (a) where his covering saved us points. He repeated that trait in his limited appearances through the season. However, there were occasions where more orthodox positioning and tracking would have prevented attackers' chances, which is where Connolly and Taylor excelled. I bet he's learnt one thing, though; don't delay a throw-in when you're already on a yellow card and the referee is itching to stamp down on game management! [Colchester (a)].

Sheff Wendy for me. Never been to Hillsborough and my mate is a Wednesday fan who lives in Horfield, so about time we played them. Last time we went there we lost 6-0 (I think) and Trollope was sacked 6-2, including a worldie from Hoskins.

Also, he was the one who gave Ollie Clarke's goal at Blackburn, had the players line up for the home team's re-start, then inexplicably reversed the decision for offside. Video shows that (a) the ball was played to Ollie by a Blackburn player and (b) he wasn't in an offside position, anyway. Then went on to give Blackburn a soft penalty and denied us an obvious one.
Also, he was the one who penalised Ellis Harrison at Fleetwood for being fouled by a defender, then booked Chris Lines for protesting...then sent off Chris Lines for continuing the protest.
It's almost as though the decision only to caution Puddy is haunting him.
I would recommend that Paul Coutts, Sam Finley et al go easy on the chatting to the ref today.

Salford City could still make the play-offs if just two of the five teams immediately above them misfire over the next two weeks. Their next match is against: Mansfield Town.
I would have thought Salford must be strongly motivated to do well against the Stags. They need a win, of course, but from Rovers' point of view a draw would be just as effective.
I've just been on their official site. It's not exactly vibrating with excitement about the significance of the match. Apart from ticket information, there's nothing!
Incidentally, the match is due to be shown on Sky on Monday, 12:30 kick-off. So Mansfield will know in advance whether a win for them would put them in the box-seat, or merely keep them in touch with their rivals.

Emails flying about to Family stand ST holders asking them to move to the South West tent for the remainder of the season. Looks like it’s getting dismantled, and the East Terrace will be whole again. Should take our capacity way above 10k for the run in too. In my view, the Family Stand was a good idea to maximise revenue from the available area of the north-east part of the East enclosure. It showed that someone had done the sums and worked out that, by getting people to squeeze up together a bit, they could get the same revenue from the standing crowd whilst also making an extra stream - at a slightly higher rate for the seats - in the Family Stand. That model worked whilst the terracing area was only part-filled. Now there is a chance of packing more people in for the last four (or, possibly, five) home matches, the equation for maximising gate receipts is giving a different result. Good to see Rovers taking a sensible commercial action - which is only possible because of the temporary nature of the stand!

He shields the ball so well, at the same time he`s taking it forward. Yes. In a couple of recent matches, not only has he shielded the ball, but he's also "rebuffed" with his shoulder the opposing players, who somehow ended up on the deck! He's tough as well as skilful.

On the Derby v Coventry match on TV, the commentator mentioned that the suspensions for 10 yellow cards don't apply after match 37. So Sam Finley's in the clear! (Assuming that rule applies throughout the Football League and not just in the Championship).

In the ground yesterday I thought we were denied a penalty late on when Aaron Collins was brought down just inside the box. Having seen the incident again on iFollow highlights, I can understand that the ref might have thought the Harrogate defender had got the ball. But - if that's the case - it ran through to Harry Anderson, three yards clear of the last defender, who put the ball in the net. If it wasn't a penalty, because the defender played the ball, then Harry Anderson couldn't have been offside. That would have made it 4-0.
(Still complaining about Bobby Gould's disallowed goal against Ipswich in the snow in 1978, ruled out after a defender's back-pass!).

On 20th February 2007, Rovers had played 32 games (two more than the current side) and had 44 points (the same as in 2022). Outcome:promotion via play-offs. On the same date in 2016, Rovers had played 31 games and had 50 points. Outcome: automatic promotion. On average, we will need to win all our remaining home games and draw all of our remaining away games (or compensate one for the other) to hit the sort of points total in 2022 that is normally enough to make the play-offs. Remember, if you get into the play-offs, you actually have to win them to achieve promotion!

I watched the penalty incident this morning on the Full Match replay on iFollow, with the Away commentary switched on. The BBC Notts team thought it was a stonewall penalty, both in real time and after seeing it back on their iPads.
I thought it was a penalty from my West Stand vantage point., yesterday, as well, obv.

Was a key player in Shrewsbury's run to the League One play-offs a few years ago and scored a spectacular, deciding goal away at Charlton in that play-off semi-final, as I remember. Also, scored for Ipswich against us in one of the early games last season. He was absent from the match at Portman Road in April, though. twitter.com/skyfootball/status/994679869924560897I've just noticed that Alex Rodman was also in the Shrewsbury side that day. And their 75th minute sub? Stefan Payne!

Tom Elliott [Salford - Bradford] Loan Surprised at that one. Elliott was the striker who came on mid-way through the game at Salford in November and presented many more problems for our centre-halves than they had experienced up to that point. He was a real threat - especially when he raised his foot to kick Belshaw in the head, leaving him needing multiple stitches. Referee Ben Toner decided to take no action. Elliott then went on to set up Salford's equaliser. Toner completed his evening's work by disallowing a perfectly good Pitman goal in the last seconds that would have won us the game. Belshaw isn't the only one with scars.

Third consecutive season? Seriously? Really doesn't feel like it. It doesn't feel like it - but it's true! 2019-20 Rd 2 Plymouth; Rd 3 Coventry 2020-21 Rd 2 Darlington; Rd 3 Sheffield United 2021-22 Rd 2 Sutton Utd; Rd 3 [draw on ITV, Monday night] Ignoring the years when, as a second tier team, we qualified automatically for the third round, yesterday was the first time we have fought our way into the third round of the FA Cup in three consecutive seasons since 1969. 1966-67 Rd 2 Luton; Rd 3 Arsenal 1967-68 Rd 2 Wimbledon; Rd 3 Bristol City 1968-69 Rd 2 Bournemouth; Rd 3 Kettering In that hat-trick of third round ties, we progressed further only once; in 1969, after beating Kettering, we knocked out Bolton before falling to Everton in the fifth round.

Stendel case is Friday in Sheffield Crown Court I think. Anyone, maybe Gasmacc or someone a bit local to it, going? You haven't considered that the Northern Powerhouse / cross-Pennine links are not yet in place (and won't be anytime soon) so I would have to set off about now! I'll be going to Salford City tomorrow night, though.
