It is not beyond Rovers to get a nutritionist in for a day and to show players a spot on sports diet for the season. A good diet for sport is nothing new for goodness sake,it's been around for decades now! i think PT had a nutritionist because i remember reading a post on the OF about his "diet" for the team... Lots of Carbs i believe before & after the game They must get regular advice on diet, whether they adhere to it is another thing though. At the end of the season before they go away they have their BMI taken and are given a diet and fitness regime to follow whist they are away. BMI and fitness levels are checked at the start of pre season training which shows up those who have been on the p*ss.

Spoke to Brown's parents at Birmingham away and they spoke very highly of the club and it's support and they both joined in with Irene regularly in broad London accents. Pleased he's signed a new deal, as good as a new signing and not really one of the issues last year. Hopefully he can take more set pieces like Wycombe. The people at the club running the playing side are obviously doing a lot of things very well. If Lee Brown and his parents speak warmly of the club then why oh why can't we migrate the same attitude and culture to EVERY part of the club. So frustating.

Here's another piece of irony for you. In 2008 at the start of the recession I was involved in the hosting of a reception for VIP customers at the opening of the new JCB heavy excavator factory. One of the guests, a customer whom I had got to know quite well over a number of years was Paul Wheeler, a director of Buckingham. Paul knew I was a Rovers supporter and I asked him about the redevelopment of the Mem. He said that they were expecting to start pretty soon, having satisfied themselves that Rovers had the money to see the contract out. He confirmed that evidence had been provided confirming that " the funding was in place" . He did no add that "it has been for some time!" His bigger concern that day was his impending visit to Brighton who had asked Buckingham to tender for a new stadium. They had been asking Brighton for preliminary details of funding but had not been given satisfactory responses and ha was sceptical of the Brighton project going ahead ! How the world can be turned upside down in the space of a few weeks in 2008.

As a recently retired director of JCB I can assure everyone that the Bamford family have absolutely no interest in football whatsoever. I once asked the then Sir Anthony Bamford, now Lord Bamford if he had ever considered getting involved in a football club. His response was unequivocal - " I've been asked many times to invest in Stoke City, but frankly, why would anyone put money into a business that consumed so much cash and provided such little return? " He later sponsored London Irish RFU for two seasons due to the number of large Irish customers who buy JCB. Bamfords don't do anything without commercial logic.

A good friend of mine finances transfer fees for Premiership clubs. It is safe lending as the league controls all the TV money - the main source of income for the clubs. the rules on transfer fees are rigorous- 50%,of the fee is paid up front and the balancemust be paid within 12 months. At the beginning of each season the league deducts any outstanding and overdue transfer fee payments from the club TV money and pays the club due the fee. You may remember that Portsmouth when they were still in the top flight complained that the league were holding TV money which they wanted released to ease their financial plight. The league refused as Portsmouth owed unpaid transfer fees to other clubs and Portsmouth's telly money went to them. It's the league's way of making sure clubs honour their debts.

Southend around nine or ten years - bedevilled with Southend's severe financial problems plus umpteen serious planning issues. Years and years of delays over a few compulsory purchase cases. From the outside it seems to be a basket case there. Still no sign of the diggers that will create "Fossetts Farm". I think it has been starting every Summer for about the last six years. Whether it affects Southend, or you, there is a change of CEO at Sainsbury from next month and one can't imagine that there will be any big decisions taken about anything until the new chap has got his feet under the table. They just wouldn't do that. I think the Southend situation is a bit different. According to the Beeb, both Southend and Sainsbury have publicly declared that they wish to reduce their respective contributions to the Local community infrastructure as called for under the s.106 agreement with the Local Authority. This has stalled the development as both parties are failing to meet the terms of the planning consent. This may well suit the Sarfend Chairman who has been criticised heavily by their fans forums who, they believe, is starving the club of investment. Dunno what comparisons/ similarities we can draw from their circumstances but the situations look different to me.
