Heard another 'rumour' that the Bamford family (owners of JCB) were looking to invest, now this may be utter crap but I thought I'd share. I know there was a rumour going round that a family with a Rovers connection were looking to invest. Do they have any link with the great Harry Bamford? Ooooo theories!

As I said just a little rumour I heard, doubt there's anything in it but it's a ruddy forum so let's have some fun. I've also heard Geoff Dunford is part cat and his real name is Geoff Dunpurred.

I went to school with Harry Bamford's daughters, Brislington Comp, they lived in Broomhill, comfortable private house but no sign of wealth. Nice girls.

As a recently retired director of JCB I can assure everyone that the Bamford family have absolutely no interest in football whatsoever. I once asked the then Sir Anthony Bamford, now Lord Bamford if he had ever considered getting involved in a football club. His response was unequivocal - " I've been asked many times to invest in Stoke City, but frankly, why would anyone put money into a business that consumed so much cash and provided such little return? " He later sponsored London Irish RFU for two seasons due to the number of large Irish customers who buy JCB. Bamfords don't do anything without commercial logic.

Haha, that's that one blown out the water. Thanks for that Warwick.

Have heard this a few times from various places so will stick on here. Apparently the family who did the greyhounds is one of those looking to come onboard. As I said, just what I've heard from 3 people now and not wind up merchants. I would not be surprised to see nothing change tbf. I can see Nick sticking his heels in now. This will be my last on the rumours as it's getting silly now. I trust one source in particular but the amount of disinformation that comes out of the club just makes me feel it could all be a but of devilment. Nice to see movement on players at long last UTG

Here's another piece of irony for you. In 2008 at the start of the recession I was involved in the hosting of a reception for VIP customers at the opening of the new JCB heavy excavator factory. One of the guests, a customer whom I had got to know quite well over a number of years was Paul Wheeler, a director of Buckingham. Paul knew I was a Rovers supporter and I asked him about the redevelopment of the Mem. He said that they were expecting to start pretty soon, having satisfied themselves that Rovers had the money to see the contract out. He confirmed that evidence had been provided confirming that " the funding was in place" . He did no add that "it has been for some time!" His bigger concern that day was his impending visit to Brighton who had asked Buckingham to tender for a new stadium. They had been asking Brighton for preliminary details of funding but had not been given satisfactory responses and ha was sceptical of the Brighton project going ahead ! How the world can be turned upside down in the space of a few weeks in 2008.
