It's a dump, the Mem, and I've felt embarrassed by it since we first moved there. No surprise in those survey results.
Carstairs should be ashamed of himself for his duplicitous tactics in trying to get it listed.

It's going to be five-a-side at best at the moment. One hell of a lot of rebuilding work still "in progress".

Thanks for getting the pitch ready, lads. Now just a few chairs round the outside and we're ready for Conference footie.

It is at least an answer which confirms that the build is to go ahead. Just a shame it took so long - a lot of trouble could have been avoided if he'd said this two weeks ago.
I'm still not clear though why the club might not start construction for several more months. I expect that too will finally be revealed when the natives are starting to look stroppy again.

One thing I will say is that I'm extremely impressed with some of the new posters we've gained over the last month. I don't think I've come across Bridgeman or aghast particularly before, but I think they both do a good job of providing balanced criticism, as opposed to the more 'passionate' criticism we've seen previously. I hope they and others stick around for the long term. I just said the same to Aghast on another thread, not sure that he took it as a compliment though. Sorry Northville. I misread what you said. Love you

I now this wll annoy a lot of people, but I don't care. I think that attempting to unite a divided set of fans is only ever going to be a good thing, despite some objections along the way.
I've posted a few things along these lines now and had a lot of negative stuff, which frankly astounds me.
Does anyone want to join my cause to unite the forums or should I just shut up?

Very true. But it was meant as an appeal to the others over there.

We now share the same platform.
Many post on both.
What's the point of being separate?
Are we actually stronger as a divided voice? I don't think so.
All we need to do, now that we share the same software, is to merge and emerge as a true one strong voice. A new name, same forum, same fans, same club.

This forum isn't anti- or pro- board.
Before the OF closed, it probably was generally anti, given the fact that members chose to post on here rather than the OF, and the significant number of banned OF posters who caame here. y But since the closure of the OF, the active membership has doubled and views of all sorts are freely expressed. In effect it's a new forum, and all the better for it.
The only thing missing from this forum is the entire membership of gaschat, which is full of good ex-OF posters who talk a lot of sense, but who wish to exclude themselves from here, which, like it or not, is clearly now the (un)official forum.

"They all hate you, Geoff." "You going a bit bald there, Noel?" "Losing much money here, Geoff?" "Do you you dye your hair, Noel?" "Need a big investor, Geoff?" "Maybe, Noel. Are you interested?" "Maybe, Geoff. Are you retiring soon?" "Never, Noel. I'm here until they carry me out in a big wooden box. But are you interested?" "No deal, Geoff."

Oh no. Me posting now will convince people that we are Henburytote. Dear old nerd gas really has an inferiority complex. This forum is for opinions and info to be shared. Obviously sometimes you come across stories that you think should relay that. Myself and one other accidentally found out about it days ago, but felt it should be withheld so as not to prejudge any changes that might occur. Certainly don't know the full ins and outs. For myself I know no more than I have posted Since then others have heard rumours and started posting. All I have said is that I don't believe the numbers quoted to be correct. If you don't want to read it don't read it. I didn't break the story, I just responded to what I genuinely believe to be a factual error. Another bigger story is brewing but I must keep that to myself. I don't want to upset nerd gas. So I'll settle for the other forum from now on. Hopefully no one will cut and paste my musings on here. UTG. Don't leave us Mr toteend. It's a big forum and some people will always disagree with you. Others will welcome your posts. The other forum is a bit too nice and polite for me - everyone seems to agree with everyone else. Of course it'll degenerate once our season goes belly-up, but I'd rather read on here to see what everyone thinks - good, bad and ugly.

I think all the under 21's should just invade the pitch and run around shouting a lot, and jumping up and down a bit. This is the traditional solution, and it's worked very well for everyone in the past.

Was this announcement on the OS? There's nothing on there from where I'm looking, although I've had some problems with only being able to view the site a day or 2 out of date before. Shame that there's a delay, although I personally felt an air of inevitability about it. I just hope that it eventually WILL get built. Until I see it under way officially, I will always have a nagging doubt in my mind that it will ever happen. It's just a line in the Javid article: www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/sajid-javid-visits-the-mem-1618031.aspxThanks for that - I was wondering where it was. It just keeps getting further and further away through a drip-drip policy of small additional delays. Each of which is only a small further delay from the last announced, but taken together, and compared to our expectations a year ago, add up to a massive stalling of the whole project. Expect more hitches to be announced as the weeks progress. I imagine once the new season starts, the announcement will be that we hope to commence building not "this year" but "this season". I have serious doubts now, for the first time, about this thing ever happening.

Each to their own. To me biltong tastes and feels like a piece of old rope marinated in lard. Mmmmm rope...... Still, I've succumbed to many a doner kebab in the past, so who am I to judge? Mmmmm doner after 8 pints........

Good player for Chelsea but not even an average International player. A player who for 10 years unbalanced Englands midfield as managers felt he had to be included because of his scoring record for Chelsea that was bloated with penalties. Never had the ability to run a game or dictate the pace of the game,he has the worst record in World Cup history for shots to goals ratio as he hasn`t scored a single world cup finals goal yet has dozens of shots which shows that he is selfish and could have passed the ball rather than shoot and hope for a deflection like he did for Chelsea. Pushed Rickie Lambert out of the way at Wembley when we had a free kick so he could plant the ball into the wall. A player who wasn`t fit to clean Paul Scholes boots. Well Frank has scored one perfectly legitimate goal for England in the World Cup finals - against Germany 2010. It just doesn't appear on the record books. And if scoring Finals goals is a measure of how good a player is, then Wayne Rooney (total=0) hasn't got a lot to brag about, but we're not going to drop him. Anyway, all that aside, Lampard has been a great professional and good role model. No drugging, drinking, dogging and gambling nonsense that so many fall for. Same applies to Scholes too, of course, who I also admire greatly, and I for one wasn't comparing the two.

"However, for now I can tell you that we are in the process of submitting the pre-commencement planning conditions to South Gloucestershire Council to clear the way for work to begin on the site. We are also working on the outstanding items with UWE."
I might have missed something along the way, but where did these "pre-commencement planning condition" hurdles come from? At one point a few weeks ago, the diggers were revving up, supposedly. The English Heritage thing then knocked the project back a bit, but this is a new one on me. We have to prepare and submit more documents to a council which will have to review, debate, approve (or disapprove) them, as well as dealing with "outstanding issues" with UWE.
This saga makes the Hundred Years War look like a quick punch-up outside the pub on a Saturday night.

Latest Board Meeting Minutes:
Mr Higgs asked Mr Watola to confirm the total wage bill for 2013-14, and to give his views on the forecast losses for 2014-15.
Mr Watola replied that he had not finished his calculations on these matters, but had read some plausible numbers from a poster on the "Bristol Rovers Independent Fans' Forum". Mr Watola suggested that, for the time being, these should form the basis of next year's forecasts, in the absence of anything more tangible.
Mr Higgs agreed that this would be a sensible solution.
After a show of hands, this action was AGREED
