You can turn off emergency alerts now on your phone and you won't receive this one. I saw a post on my local neighborhood forum saying unless you answer the alert your phone will be disabled. It won't.
Conspiracy theorists frothing at the mouth about this one. Calm down.

After a bit of digging (I was bored). It's a free country. We can all change our minds. I respect that. Quote from the same person prior to Feb 22nd (wider): "Please don’t go for B*****. I’m pretty sure Wael wouldn’t entertain such a character but please don’t. I won’t attend any games, even when/if it becomes possible again if B***** is manager". Absolutely pathetic attempt to denigate someone's observation about our current training facilities. No wonder I never use this forum any more.

I think this is an excellent thread which generally reflects the views of most people, in a non-personal well-reasoned way; in other words a roughly 50:50 split on whether we should have opted to remain or leave. Ok, 52:48. Contrast that with the Gaschat thread, which is overwhelmingly Brexit. I am not criticising in any way the right of the Brexiters on Gaschat to put forward their views, but I'm disappointed that very few others on the opposite side feel willing or able to say what they think. I have no idea why that might be so.
I haven't posted on here for a long while. Not because I don't like it, but I suppose because there's more to read and comment on over there.
I think this thread demonstrates why a general chat section could now be re-introduced, if moderated.
It also shows that Gaschat is a great place for a laugh, but not necessarily a great place for a sensible debate. I suppose everyone knows that already.

TBH I think the pirates nickname has had it's day, I bet 9 fans out of 10 if asked who they supported would say the gas rather than the pirates if they didn't say Rovers, plus how many times have we sang "the gas are going up" & "we are the gas" compared to any song about pirates? Plus we are known by other clubs as "gasheads" not pirates (LOL)? Pirates for clothing etc with "gas" & "gasheads" to identify the fans for me. You're right there Topper. I live near London and those who know us, know us as the Gas. I've mentioned the Pirates and got blank looks.

Yes I remember the blue shirts with white trim, and the crest with Virtute et Industria, I cant remember it as a badge on the shirts then though. Now you say it, nor can I and I just did a search of the team in that period. I will look into it and see when we used it as I am pretty sure that we did i've searched for this and can't find any all-blue 1966-72 kit with the Bristol crest on, but on this photo from the Watney Cup win you can see the scarf tied to the cup has that crest, obviously before the 82ers hijacked it. I don't think we ever had it on the shirts though.

I agree that 6 music is a great station. The closest rival for the target age/audience seems to me to be Absolute Radio, but it's rubbish since it plays an endless cycle of REM, U2 and Coldplay.

Estoppel, admittedly from wikipedia:
If a landlord promises the tenant that he will not exercise his right to terminate a lease, and relying upon that promise the tenant spends money improving the premises, the doctrine of promissory estoppel may prevent the landlord from exercising a right to terminate, even though his promise might not otherwise have been legally binding as a contract.
So this could relate to the situation where Sainsbury's allowed us to spend money on the JR and opening hours appeal, when in fact they had no intention of continuing with the contract. In these cases perhaps they might not be allowed to exercise their right to terminate?

I registered on here (the old version) before the OF closed down. I stayed on here when Gaschat was set up and when the new version of the forum was created, and later joined Gaschat too, but I said on both forums that we should merge. No-one seemed to agree with me, but I felt that we lose influence and shared knowledge if we split into two main forums.
I still read this forum, but it seems all the team and stadium news is coming from Gaschat now, and this forum is feeding off that. The number of posts and posters is declining. That's a real shame. I still think we should merge. I think Gaschat would have no problem with that whatsover, but a few proud people here, maintaining their independence, wouldn't want it. Which is silly, since we're all cut loose from the OF now.
There is a lot of silly chat over there, but since recent tightening up by the mods recently, a lot less personal abuse. In fact almost none.
I do think this forum is currently suffering. With so many good posters on here not responding much, because there's not much to respond to, it might become moribund.

At the replayed FA Cup tie, played in a deluge similar to the one that caused the first match to be called off, someone bellowed out "Does it never stop raining in this f******g town?".
Which even got a few of the Crawley stewards laughing.

Shame on you. I have not shopped in S****burys since they reneged on the contract. We're the least of Sainsbury's problems. They couldn't give less of a s*** about you. Also, any big business with shareholders would do the same if it meant salvaging money. If Rovers were in a position where there was a choice between doing something we'd agreed to do but would lose us huge amounts of money vs. weaselling out of it, everyone here would be screaming for them to weasel out of it. Nothing to do with this topic, but I've just been reading your groundhopping website mentioned in your signature and it's very entertaining. I'd recommend it to others, especially the Salisbury v Rovers piece. partizanbristle.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/7-raymond-mcenhill-stadium-salisbury-fc.html

I thought they pulled out last week? Surprised that Jon hasn't jumped in to either confirm or deny this? He has on the other forum. Don't know why he hasn't come on here to say the same. gaschat.co.uk/thread/4988/sell-tomorrow?page=4

I find it strange that student accommodation sites are springing up all over Bristol, with even offices being converted; yet we could not make use of that scenario. City must now be counting their blessings that there were problems with the Ashton Vale site, as they are now rapidly developing Ashton Gate. Gloucestershire CCC have managed to develop their Nevil Road ground whilst continuing to play there, and it's on its way to being able to make a case for being a Test ground. Whilst there is much to be said for developing a new ground in partnership with a university I still think that some were blinded by £ signs and false/misguided aspirations. City fans might be counting their blessings because many of them (understandably) wanted to stay at their spiritual home i.e. Ashton Gate. But the owners of the club won't be overjoyed, because, nice as the new AG is, without parking, leisure facilities and good transport links, City will not be able to use their stadium as a potential World Cup venue or a major sporting/entertainment/corporate venue which will bring in the squillions of ££s they'd hoped for with Ashton Vale.

I posted this on the other forum, but for those who don't go there, I chanced upon an interesting Pathe video from 1954 which has a short piece on Rovers and their training methods under Bert Tann from 1:45 onwards. The start of our glory years.

That's really ironic your comment although very welcome, it was the very reason Gaschat was supposedly set up as they claimed we didn't Really? I was on the OF until it went. Then I assessed my options eventually wound up on Not606 which was a good forum, esp for stat lovers but pretty dead. This forum at the time was 95% moaning about the board and conspiracy theories and GasChat looked the least noxious. It was always daft when I was on it but at least it was friendly, that's not the case anymore sadly. Think I'm one of about 5-10 regular posters that ditched in the last two months. Gaschat has gone a bit loopy in the past few weeks, for sure, down mainly to the posts of 4 or 5 WUMs who have led others to respond in kind or quit. Hugo is now back as a mod and I hope it will settle down. There's one or two others who still need sorting. Do many on here look at Gaschat? I could ask the same on there.

I often read good stuff and have the odd laugh on here and the same on gaschat. Some of us post on both - it's not an exclusive club. I don't know why we have two forums (fora for you pedants) anyway since the Evil Ones shut down the OF. It's like arguing about the People's Front of Judea and the Judean People's Front. I suppose it serves a purpose for those who hate one forum or the other. You can always quit and join the other. And maybe do the opposite a few months later.

I wonder, if Poundland were interested in the Mem site, what their first and final offer might be?

I genuinely think they wanted us to score! No less than 4 times in that second half they broke with 3 on one of our defenders. Literally just played it through to Mildy each time! Never seen such a lack of effort in an attack! Our own fault completely. So glad you said that as I have believed it to be the case too. I will never blame Mansfield and I hold no ill will to them whatsoever. What really did it for me was them playing in our kit. That is bound to end up being a question in a sports quiz someday It was somehow fitting that a team wearing a Bristol Rovers kit put us out of the league. After all, we, with the fanbase and potential to do so much better, were the ones who shafted ourselves with the mismanagement of a fine club. It certainly gave them on OTIB a good larf for many many weeks.

I'm sure NH realises that business and personal issues are two different things. The next time JTS hosts a FFS event at the Mem, Nick will walk up to Jon, grasp his throat and shake it warmly.

I've never understood where the mortgage on the Mem came from. I thought the agreement between us and Bristol Rugby was that if either club went bust, the other would then own the stadium for a neglible fee, and certainly nothing like the £900k mentioned previously.
