I'm sure Paul Randall had a little goaty at one time !? If you mean Randall had a little goatee, you may be right. If you're saying he had a little goaty, you might need to employ lawyers soon.

The more I think about it the more I think the similarities between us and Stockport are frightening. Very frightening. A bit like Psycho without the cuddly bits from that film. We could be in their position in 14 months if we're not careful. Their ground must truly be the Nou Camp of the Conference North.

"I'm going to go to this BRISA meeting thingy tomorrow, Brian."
"Well good for you, Nick. Just the sort of approach I've been advising for some time. The fans will welcome you with open arms."
"Welcome me? They'll lynch me, you fool. I'm going to infiltrate them, not bloody join them. I'm going incognito. I'm going to wear a City shirt."

It goes wrong for him at every club he joins. He's a talented player when motivated, but a wrong 'un when the chips are down.
Unless Northampton manage a promotion, which seems unlikely, then he'll be leaving them before the season ends. All those clubs we heard were spying on him as he scored his goals last season clearly didn't like the look of the baggage he carries.
He's burning his bridges, and will be left with no other option than a non-league club before long.

I agree meadgas. I simply don't believe that Ward, when offered money for new strikers, said "no thank you, Mr Higgs. Everything's fine here. Put your wallet away".
If true, he'd be the first manager in the entire history of world football to do so.

Shouldn't this thread be on Gaschat as well? I've read a few comments on the two forums suggesting that BRISA is 'our' group and the Welly group is 'theirs', but I really can't imagine most Rovers fans not supporting both groups, regardless of which forum they read.

I hate to think what Norman Hunter would have done to the ankles of a striker walking onto the pitch wearing one blue and one pink bootee.

This then is a good question for the Q&A isn't it?
"What obstacles, legal or procedural, now remain to delay the start of construction work on the UWE, how long will they take to resolve, and why were the fans told earlier this year that as soon as any legal challenges were beaten, that construction could commence immediately?"

Get the feeling we'll be taking over some of the home stands at away grounds this year! Stands!...you think they've all got stands! "Tall ones at the back. Women and shortasses in the middle. Kids at the front. Right - can everyone see the pitch now?"

I thought Blondie (the band) sounded really good. Debbie Harry sounded a bit wheezy but looked astonishing for a 68 year old.

What do you do with a mini scarf then as I presume you can't wrap it round your neck or lie on it (like a beach towel) or are they just worn by mini people ? I can only assume that Higgs warned the PR staff that crowds were going to be smaller next season, so they came up with a brilliant solution.

I am assuming that Rod's chances of winning this vote are infinitesimally small at the moment. Appealing to an esablished base of SC voters won't work if he just presents himself as a good candidate. SC members might nod a bit in approval, but then vote for their establshed choice. He has to show why he would be a BETTER candidate than BSS, and what he can do which BSS can't or won't do. It sounds a bit gritty and possibly a bit personal, but without that grit then it will be a brave but failed attempt. In a contest like this there's no room for sentiment - there's only one chance at it this season, and if the SC voting fans are to oust BSS, then they need to understand why that woud be the right thing to do.

Exactly the same spiel that accompanied the collapse of the Mem' redevelopment. Higgs looks more and more like a Robert Maxwell type- bullying, blustering and bull****ing in total denial that there is anything wrong when it is quite clear that there is. I appreciate that the financial crash of 2008 was a shock globally, but the fact remains that when the ground shifted, Opal were able to pull out quite legally and that this caught Higgs completely cold (well that's the Official version anyway). A bit odd when we are told he is an experienced master of the building trade. Some deja vu here: Bristol Rovers Independent Supporters Blog - More Stadium Delays

Young players in their breakthrough season being written off as not good enough creatively when they were doing what their manager told them to do and were probably the most successful at it. Clarke for instance was a much more creative player in the youth team on his way up. I remember Harold Jarman was rubbished in his first season in league football because he was not a patch on Georgie Petherbridge - luckily in those days it was just pub talk and not plastered all over a medium that could be recalled and displayed for days and years afterwards. Both these players deserve to be talked about positively but the sour taste of last season seems to have infiltrated even a thread that was supposed to be devoted to who would make the most positive impact to next season. Well, I suppose it all depends on which pub you frequented at the time, but I don't remember Harold Jarman being rubbished at any point in his career. Nor do I remember him being unfavourably compared to George Petherbridge, clearly I was drinking in the wrong (or right) pubs at that time. But I do take your point about modern social media though. Brizzle and Wembley Gas look back fondly on ye old days

GasChat now closed down. When you only have 50 posts going out a day compared to 500 posts per day going out on here then it's going to struggle and the forum won't have much life to it. Naughty step for you my boy.

Ward has not been made a scapegoat. He was the source of the problem from the first match at Exeter to his last match in charge. I think he would have just kept us up by the skin of our teeth but bored us to death in the process but personally felt he should have been sacked about November. I have to agree and disagree Steve. I agree that under Ward we would have just stayed up - uber-defensive tactics for the last 8 games would have made sure of that. I disagree that Ward has not been made a scapegoat. Higgs has blamed him for refusing to accept money for players, for not wanting to be manager when needed, and basically blaming him for our new postion in the Skrill. We had an extremely poor season under Ward, playing boring football, scoring very few goals and winning few games. On the other hand we conceded very few, had a decent goal difference, and were never in the relegation zone under him. Maybe he should have been sacked - or allowed to leave - at Christmas, so that we had a chance to climb the table under someone new. But the official line now seems to be that we are in the Conference because of Ward. Of course he contributed to our decline, but Ward wasn't in charge of the team for the last 8 games - poor old DC was thrown in at the deep end and found he couldn't swim very well. Most of the players seemed to lose the plot, stop playing and in some cases start misbehaving. What Ward was supposed to do about that during his 41 days as DoF I don't know. I'm trying not to be an apologist for Ward - he had a bad season - but it annoys me to see Board members using him as their excuse for many years of poor management which ultimately cost us our league status.

"What's the matter, DC?" "I've phoned millions of players, used up all my credit, and not one bugger has phoned me back. To cap it all, Mum put pickle in my cheese sandwiches."

Sorry about the underlining. An inadvertent formatting error on my part! That's OK. Just don't do it again.
