The mistake was not getting him p1ssed before all the other games he played then. Was it Swansea that he scored the hat trick against ? Seem to remember that he hit the headlines for off the pitch incidents after leaving Rovers. I was also thinking it was Swansea. You are correct, he was left with life changing injuries after being assaulted in Ireland. His attacker received a 6 year sentence. Was defo Swansea - Boxing Day i seem to vaguely remember. Chic Bates looked about 60 when he joined us.

I think that buying 'veteran' players is a gamble some come off others dont usually because of fitness problems. Some strikers can carry on scoring wherever they play and until a ripe old age,Bobby Gould did OK for the Rovers,Mick Channon,Bob Lee and Chic Bates amongst others didnt...lets hope that BP stays fit because he is a good finisher with a decent goal scoring record. You must be as old as me. Although Bob Lee and Chick Bates didnt really do that well for us did they?

When he has played against us, always thought id like him in our team. At 33 still has a couple of decent seasons in him fingers crossed. Happy with this.

Managed by Nigel Clough Finished a poor 16th last season but do not be deceived. Won 5 in a row at one stage under Clough, then lost only 2 of the last 12 games, admittedly drawing 6 of those and winning 4 of the last 5. I am expecting Rovers to lose, especially if we do not sign a striker by then. They only won 6 home games last season, but beat Cov 1-0 this week. Menayese has gone on loan, Ollie Clarke played 33 times last season, Ryan Sweeney 36. I would have both those in our starting line up.

I am sorry that Ayunga has gone. Clearly not our main 20 goal per season striker, but I feel there is a good striker in there. I agree. He definitely showed some signs, but again consistency may have been an issue, but that applied to 90% of the team last year.

I thought this thread meant we had sold him! He does'nt score goals,so unless Joey sees potential, I hope he leaves. Thats harsh. He clearly has some talent and we must be able to coach him into a better player. If Penrice could work with his talent we'd have a good player imo.

Dramatic and naive comment on the England Captain. Nah Bas. Kane has now had 4 really poor games for England. Germany were slow at the back, Kane never looked like getting in behind them. Slow, lethargic and uninterested. I don't know what's wrong with him. Rashford with his pace would have made more sense. Or even Foden playing in a more advanced role would surely have been better. It was a great win. But until Grealish came on we struggled against a poor German side, who missed two sitters. They get those two, Grealish doesn't inspire, we go out 2-0 and Southgate and Kane get crucified and a nation feels crushed. It's a funny old game. Well, poor German side compared to their usual brilliance maybe, but top 8 European side regardless. We are in the same category, and as France, Dutch, Portugal etc can attest these sides can beat each other. Ukraine wont be easy but no games are any longer. As for Kane being uninterested, that comment is a bit naive really. Out of form, more tired than usual etc perhaps. But when it mattered he finished the game.

Think he may have been reliable for this division, certainly Gills didn't want to lose him and delighted to have him back, we didn't see anything that makes me feel this is much of a loss.

He was a good pro, but only average with injuries, a decent 4th choice striker. I agree the Reilly comment, certainly in that mould, would get 2 or 3 decent games and then drop away. If we get in a couple of decent strikers adding to the two left, its a good call.

Just one new proper stand would be nice.DC used the word infrastructure when new owners took over but personally,I wouldn't include tented stands under that heading. Becoming tedious now but even semi pro clubs are improving their infrastructure and the EFL must be aware that we fall way below the acceptable standards for disabled facilities and catering. Have said all this so many times so promise not to mention it again other than at an open day once Geoff Dunford told us that the 'Dribuild ' was being extended the whole length of the pitch and around to where the South Tent is now. Agree, it wouldnt be a waste of money to have a low cost but proper stand put in, whilst we continue the 40 year dream of a stadium. Actually we have the mem so maybe 40 year dream of reasonable facilities. Not trying to start it all over again, but lets just turn the Mem into 17000 ok ground. Concentrate on the atmosphere of the development.

I thought I'd try this: thefishy.co.uk/calc.phpI entered results for all remaining fixtures in League Two. We stay up by 1 point, finishing in 20th. We get 11 points from the last 6 games: beating MK Dons, Lincoln and Crewe. Drawing with Northampton and Blackpool. Losing to Portsmouth. Overly optimistic? Probably! My reasoning is: MK Dons and Crewe will have relatively little to play for. Lincoln's form has collapsed. The game with Northampton will be very tense. Neither side can afford to lose. I expect Portsmouth to have the better of us, even though I suspect the Cowley bounce will have subsided by then. What it did show me is that we may well need 11 from 6. i.e - winning at least 3 and only losing 1. What do you think? Better fun than the matches! I think 46 points keeps a team up though, hopefully us.

Well we needed 4 wins prior to Monday, we’ve picked up one of them so a good start. Saturday is arguably the biggest game we have yet to play, bar perhaps the final game if there is something still resting on it for us. Win at Northampton and I’ll be confident enough to suggest that we’ll stay up. We’d probably only need two wins then and I reckon we could get them in the final 3 homes matches against Lincoln, Crewe and MK Dons. Maybe we’d even pick up a point in one of the remaining away games. Lose the Northampton game and I think we’d massively struggle to get the points required, especially when we will have gifted one of our rivals three points. Don’t really fancy our chances in the away matches against Pompey and Blackpool and we’d be probably looking at having to win all our 3 home games just to be in with a chance of staying up. A draw isn’t as disastrous as a loss, but it would put a lot of pressure on us to win our home games, to be in with a chance of staying up on the final day. A draw would suit Northampton a lot more than it would more than us. So staying up is possible, but remains unlikely until we know the result of Saturday. We’ve put a stop our declining form in general with Monday’s win, now we’ve got to end this awful patch of away form. UTG. Think you could be right, I would take a draw right now, but a win gives us a real chance.

Not just Martyn Starnes. Where is Tommy Widdrington? Karim Mardem-Bey? Tom Gorringe? What do these Board members have to say about the most controversial managerial appointment in the history of Bristol Rovers FC? Surely you would either speak out, and resign. Or get your positives out ASAP and nail your colours to the "B***** project". One thing I've learnt in business - if you're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Or are they trying to sit on the fence and try ride out the storm and "see how it goes"? I apologise for my negativity right now. But this looks to me like the current Board structure is about to implode. God knows what will replace it. I've been consistent in saying that Wael Al-Qadi needs 'better people' around him and on the Board. But now I dread what is coming to BS7. Not sure that is being negative, its just asking questions of our board, which seems very fair.

Ok - I’m done. It’s been a pleasure everyone. I honestly hope Rovers go down this year to drive the change that is needed. The club is rotten to a core with a thick owner having his inherited cash bled from him by parasites. Tommy, Starnes - please f@ck off. Joey - say hi to your brother in June pal. UTG - again, one day Nobody will take away Rovers for me, no matter how hard they try. We will be proud again, don't abandon the club, by all means dislike everything about it for the time being.

It's a wild roll of the dice from Wael, possibly a reaction to having employed nice guy Ben Garner and seeing his dream vision implode spectacularly, then, going again with another nice guy in Paul Tisdale and it also faltering badly, perhaps now Wael feels that the whole club from top to bottom needs an horrific boot up the backside and an entirely different approach. If B***** is bringing his backroom boot boys, a wholesale clearout of BRFC personnel is on the horizon, and perhaps a Board member or two will go with them. It's going to get very dark & ugly. Maybe TG. They say a leopard doesn't change its spots, but from personal experience I know this isn't always accurate. Fingers crossed as he is a bit older he may becoming a bit wiser. Something has to change our fortunes.

It's very crass to spout untruths with a thread like this, nevertheless after a hellish year errors of judgment are easily made. I think the thread should be anchored and replaced with one of Harry's informative threads on tonight's very important match and let bygones be bygones! He missed the mark completely with this thread. I cannot find any humour, fun or indeed dignity when he saw that he had got it wrong.
Hey ho, shame Shoveler has gone.
I have to say a thick skin is needed in life, particularly at the moment, and our beloved club has managed to separate the comradery we all used to have over every adversity, demonstrated by this thread, which is the biggest shame of all.
