Yes, I should have added Stockport. And of course plenty of clubs in the NW who don’t struggle but I always feel that given a few years Morecambe, Barrow and even Accrington will return to their ‘natural’ places in time. It must be hard competing against 3 of the best clubs in the world for the ‘neutral’ support that floats around. UTG! History suggests that you are probably right Wareham. Clubs that are new into what is now the EFL seem to blaze an initial bright trail and then implode and drop back to former level. I can only think of a few that have lasted the course of time - wigan, the lightning cheats and arguably Wimbledon - the incarnation that was stolen by Frankenstein FC are the obvious ones. Plenty have had their five minutes of fame and are now back in non league oblivion - Kidderminster, Yeovil, Boston, macclesfield, barnet, Rubbish and Dustbins etc. Both Stevenage and Crawley have yo yo’d between l 1 and 2. Time may be running out for the latter but Stevenage look like they might hang around for a bit. More comet clubs are likely to be the onesyou list, Harrogate, Sutton and FGR Add Cheltenham to my first list - against the odds perhaps they now appear to be established in the EFL

Stockport were horribly mis-managed for a number of years, and I think most people are happy they are back where they belong. They're doing well in League 2. Because Stockport have solid support they were always going to gravitate to their 'natural' position eventually. See also Wrexham and Notts County, only a question of time. When Salford's financial doping stops, they will plummet down the leagues. Fingers crossed. And only a question of time before Morecambe and Fleetwood go back to where they 'belong'. Good riddance. #oldschool I’m probably new school then as I quite like the fact that we’ve had plenty of new clubs come in to the EFL. It makes it more interesting somehow. Tough on those clubs who drop into non- league and so glad we only spent one season there. Plenty of smaller clubs in non league who were previously established league clubs - Torquay, Chester York Darlington Hereford Aldershot Scunthorpe etc none of whom look like bouncing back any time soon For me it is what a 'new' Club brings to the EFL. A financially doped and/or poorly supported and ultimately unsustainable Club (Salford, Crawley, Morecambe etc etc) don't add anything IMHO. And they replace more traditional Clubs with a decent fan base. Decent fan base = part of the community in my books. The top 7 average attendances in the National league are all traditional EFL Clubs. Wrexham 9,964 Notts County 7,773 Oldham 6,737 Chesterfield 6,736 Southend 5,875 York 4,770 Scunthorpe 3,243 I am a traditionalist.

In the EFL since 1999 with one relegation to the Conference and a bounce straight back - not many Clubs do that :-) Yup. If I was in charge I would let them 'in'.

Morecambe average 4500 - more than a number of long established EFL clubs. We could have Boreham Wood in the EFL next season - currently 24th in National league home attendance averages - 1133 people.
It probably takes a while for a newly established League club to build a fanbase. Can't imagine that when they first achieved league status the Lightning cheats averaged nearly 6000 or Wigan 12000.
I get what you are saying about being part of the community, but that doesn'rt bestow a divine right to eternal EFL membership as we know to our cost

Which is kind of double from where they were in their first few years in the league... As for Wycombe. Their first season in the league (1997-98) they actually averaged 6,278. A low of 3,681 in 2013/14. This season, currently 6,002. Cheats, yes. Worthy of a place in the EFL - yes. (https://www.transfermarkt.co.in/wycombe-wanderers/besucherzahlenentwicklung/verein/2805)

Watford: Chris Wilder replaces sacked Slaven Bilic as head coach..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/136F8/production/_128880697_wilder_rex.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/18518/production/_128880699_wilder2_rex.jpgWatford have appointed Chris Wilder as head coach after sacking Slaven Bilic. Bilic, 54, left after five months in charge following a run of one win in eight Championship games. Wilder, who has agreed a contract until the end of the season, is Watford's ninth full-time manager since Javi Gracia's departure in September 2019. Watford, relegated from the Premier League last season, are ninth in the table, four points off the play-offs. "We are all ambitious to succeed this season, so something new is needed quickly while the opportunity of promotion is still real," technical director Ben Manga told the club website. "With the January transfer window over, to change coach is the only option available to re-energise for the final games ahead." Since Gracia was sacked four months after taking the club to the 2019 FA Cup final, Quique Sanchez Flores, Nigel Pearson, Vladimir Ivic, Xisco Munoz, Claudio Ranieri, Roy Hodgson, Edwards and Bilic have had spells in charge. Bilic replaced Rob Edwards, who lasted only 11 games in charge, in September. Wilder, 55, was sacked by Middlesbrough in October after 11 months in charge. He led hometown club Sheffield United to two promotions from League One to the Premier League before leaving in March 2021. He took over at Middlesbrough in November that year but left with the club in the Championship relegation zone. Wilder's first game in charge of Watford will be at struggling QPR on Saturday.

Scott Parker: Club Bruges sack manager after just 12 games in charge..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/8FDC/production/_128882863_gettyimages-1247876928.jpgScott Parker has been sacked as Club Bruges manager after less than three months in charge. Former Bournemouth and Fulham boss Parker won just two of his 12 matches at the Belgian champions. The 42-year-old Englishman saw his side lose 5-1 to Benfica in their Champions League last 16 second leg on Tuesday, going out 7-1 on aggregate. "Scott Parker is no longer head coach of Club Bruges," the club said in a short statement on Wednesday. Parker, who managed Fulham between 2019 and 2021, began the current season in the Premier League with Bournemouth but lost his job four games into the campaign. The former England international was appointed by Club Bruges on 31 December, with his first game as manager on 8 January. The 18-time champions are currently fourth in the Belgian top flight, 21 points adrift of leaders Genk. They had reached the Champions League's knockout stage for the first time in the competition's current format. Parker led Bournemouth to Premier League promotion last season but his time with the Cherries ended following a 9-0 defeat by Liverpool in August.

Patrick Vieira: Crystal Palace sack manager after 12-game winless run..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0989/production/_129014420_hi082823235.jpgCrystal Palace have sacked manager Patrick Vieira after a 12-match winless run. Palace have not won a match in 2023 and were beaten 1-0 by Brighton in the Premier League on Wednesday, their third defeat in a row. They are 12th in the table but are only three points above 18th-placed Bournemouth, who have a game in hand. "It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made," chairman Steve Parish said. "Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status." Frenchman Vieira was appointed before the start of the 2021-22 season and led the Eagles to a 12th-placed finish, earning praise for an attacking style. However, this season they have scored just 21 goals in 27 games - only Wolves, Everton and bottom-of-the-table Southampton have fewer. Before their defeat by Brighton, Palace had gone three consecutive games without a shot on target. Three members of Vieira's coaching staff - Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Said Aigoun - have also left the club and the process of appointing a new manager is under way. Just five points separate the Premier League's bottom nine clubs heading into the final months of the season. Palace travel to leaders Arsenal, Vieira's former club, on Sunday (14:00 GMT). Their final 10 games of the season will see them face all eight of their relegation rivals. Parish added: "Patrick's impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself, and all of his colleagues. "He led the team to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final and respectable 12th-placed finish last season playing some exciting football, which was a challenging and crucial campaign for the club given the changes we made to the squad prior to his arrival. "Patrick has given his all to the club, and we all thank him and his team for their service." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/3/17/6f77acc1-3566-4936-85d4-57f4893b45dd.png

I think we may have just managed to stay in the league. But it would be a gamble. I think the board have probably done the right thing. Crystal Palace: Roy Hodgson being considered as Patrick Vieira replacement..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1626C/production/_129023709_shutterstock_editorial_12819462d.jpgFormer Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is being considered as an option to take over as manager at Selhurst Park after the sacking of Patrick Vieira. Frenchman Vieira, 46, was sacked on Friday after a 12-match winless run in all competitions. It would be a remarkable return for former England boss Hodgson, who was replaced by Vieira in July 2021. Under-21s boss Paddy McCarthy is taking charge of the Eagles against league leaders Arsenal on Sunday. He will be supported by former Palace player Darren Powell, and BBC Sport understands that the situation will be reviewed heading into the international break. But Hodgson, 75, is an option for the club he managed for four seasons before stepping back from football in 2021. He briefly returned to the dugout for a short period last season at Watford, leaving after the Hornets were relegated. Hodgson said last season he did not expect to take another Premier League managerial role after Watford. The former Liverpool and Fulham manager knows many of the current Palace squad well having worked with them before and that would be seen as a positive as the Eagles try to avoid being dragged deeper into a relegation fight. Palace have not won a game in 2023 and are 12th in the table, just three points above 18th-placed Bournemouth who have a game in hand.

Patrick Vieira, who replaced Hodgson at Selhurst Park in July 2021, was sacked by Palace on Friday after a 12-match winless run in all competitions. Hodgson, 75, managed Watford from January to May 2022, leaving after they were relegated to the Championship. "It is a privilege to be asked to return to the club, which has always meant so much to me," said Hodgson. "Our sole objective now is to start winning matches, and to get the points necessary to ensure our Premier League status." Hodgson had said he did not expect to take another managerial job in the Premier League after his departure from Watford. Ray Lewington also returns to Palace as first-team coach with Paddy McCarthy, who took charge of Sunday's 4-1 defeat at Arsenal, named assistant manager. "I would like to welcome Roy and Ray back to the club," said Palace chairman Steve Parish. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/B4CC/production/_129048264_hodgson.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/6B5C/production/_129048472_shutterstock_editorial_11751229fz.jpgEverybody loves woy

Duncan Ferguson: Incoming Forest Green Rovers head coach embraces challenge of his first top job..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/F7C8/production/_128423436_gettyimages-1235236294.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/480A/production/_128424481_whatsappimage2023-01-26at14.02.18.jpgForest Green Rovers have appointed former Everton assistant manager Duncan Ferguson as their new head coach. The 51-year-old is taking on his first full-time managerial role and replaces Ian Burchnall who left on Wednesday with the club bottom of League One. Former striker Ferguson made 273 appearances for the Toffees and also had two spells as their caretaker manager in 2019 and 2022. He has signed a five-year contract with the Gloucestershire side. "Obviously it's a big step for myself but it's one I'm looking forward to," Ferguson told BBC Radio Gloucestershire. "I've come to a club that's a great club and we're looking to stay in the division, and kick on as the years go on." Former Everton team-mate Tony Grant will work alongside Ferguson as assistant head coach. Forest Green are four points from safety and have won just five of their 28 matches this season, having played more games than their relegation rivals. They are without a victory in their past eight matches with their last win coming on 10 December. As a player, Ferguson scored 73 goals for Everton in two spells from 1994 to 2006. He began his career at Dundee United and also played for Rangers and Newcastle United. He was also capped seven times by Scotland. He joined Everton's coaching staff in 2014 and left last summer to pursue his first managerial position. "We're all excited to welcome Duncan, he is someone I have admired from a far for a while," Forest Green chairman Dale Vince told the club website. "It's just fantastic to have the opportunity to work with him in this next phase of our journey toward the Championship." Prior to the announcement of Ferguson's appointment, Vince said the club was looking to appoint someone with "experience" as swiftly as possible with the hope of bringing in "a couple more" players during this January transfer window. FGR 1 Sheffield Wednesday 0 (FT) Incredible result, almost top v bottom, big Dunc must have had an effect on his team today, maybe he played up front...

Conte called the Spurs players "selfish" and criticised the club's culture in a remarkable news conference after their recent draw at Southampton. Tottenham are fourth in the top flight but are out of all cup competitions. Conte's assistant Cristian Stellini will step up as head coach for the rest of the season, with former midfielder Ryan Mason his deputy. "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place," chairman Daniel Levy said. "We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our club and amazing, loyal supporters." His departure means Spurs are searching for their fourth permanent manager in four years since Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said "we all need to pull together" after Antonio Conte left the club by mutual consent after 16 months in charge. The Italian leaves with Spurs fourth in the Premier League table but out of all competitions. Cristian Stellini will take over for the rest of the season, with with Ryan Mason as assistant head coach. Levy said: "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. "We all need to pull together. Jim McNulty will take over as manager until the end of the season with assistant Nick Chadwick also leaving. The 46-year-old replaced Robbie Stockdale after the club lost their first four league games of the season. Under his tenure, Dale have won just six out of 32 league games and are 10 points adrift of 22nd-placed Crawley with eight games left. "We would like to place on record our thanks to Jim and Nick, and wish them every success in the future," a club statement said.

Brendan Rodgers: Leicester City sack manager after four years in charge..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/102FC/production/_128300366_0795b2da430494eaefdb205a53c4b31113ece13e.jpgThe Foxes dropped into the relegation places with a 2-1 defeat by Crystal Palace on Saturday. Rodgers was appointed in February 2019 and led the club to its first FA Cup triumph in 2021. But in a statement, chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said performances and results this season have been "below our shared expectations". "It had been our belief that continuity and stability would be key to correcting our course, particularly given our previous achievements under Brendan's management," he added. "Regrettably, the desired improvement has not been forthcoming and, with 10 games of the season remaining, the board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status. "The task ahead of us in our final 10 games is clear. We now need to come together - fans, players and staff - and show the poise, quality and fight to secure our position as a Premier League club." Rodgers led Leicester to consecutive fifth-place finishes in his first two full seasons as Foxes boss, as well as beating Chelsea to lift the FA Cup in 2021. But his side began the 2022-23 campaign with seven defeats from their opening 10 Premier League games, slumping to the bottom of the table before a run of four wins from five games going into the World Cup break. They have struggled since the season resumed, however, collecting just seven points from 33 available. Leicester exited the EFL Cup against Newcastle and the FA Cup against Blackburn during that run. The Foxes rallied in January when a 2-2 draw with Brighton was followed by impressive wins over Aston Villa and Tottenham - scoring four goals in both of those victories. But results again dipped, with the club failing to win in eight games in all competitions since the victory over Spurs on 11 February. In a crucial game against fellow strugglers Palace, the hosts playing their first game since sacking manager Patrick Vieira and reappointing Roy Hodgson, they lost out to Jean-Philippe Mateta's 94th-minute winner. Leicester, in 18th before Sunday's matches, are one point from safety in a tight battle for survival - with seven points separating the bottom nine sides. Srivaddhanaprabha added: "The achievements of the team under Brendan's management speak for themselves - we've experienced some of our finest footballing moments under his guidance and will always be grateful to him and his staff for the heights they helped us to reach on the pitch. "Off the pitch, Brendan embraced the culture of the club and helped cultivate an outstanding developmental environment, particularly during the transition to Seagrave, and provided strong leadership during the unprecedented challenge of the coronavirus pandemic. His place in Leicester City history is assured." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/B4DC/production/_128300364_c6f6677043eddf879b519bd42b9f96167574923f.jpg
