Bruno Lage: Wolves sack manager after defeat by West Ham.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/7046/production/_126924782_48bb0a3808d84d7b44d2ce489080ba80a28adcaa.jpgWolves have sacked manager Bruno Lage after 16 months in charge following Saturday's defeat by West Ham United left them in the bottom three. Lage succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo last summer and led Wolves to a 10th-placed finish in his first season in charge. However, they have won one and lost nine of their past 15 Premier League matches under the Portuguese. Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said that poor form meant he had "no choice" but take the "difficult decision" to sack Lage. "Bruno is an excellent coach, a hardworking and dedicated manager, and a warm, wise and honest man," said Shi. "He and his staff have been a pleasure to work with throughout their time at Wolves, so it is with much sadness that we have had to make what has been a difficult decision. "I honestly have no doubts about Bruno's ability and I'm sure he will succeed elsewhere, however the team's form and performances over the last few months mean that we have no choice but to act." Wolves in talks with former boss Nuno over return.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/3601/production/_127152831_nuno_getty.jpgNuno bid an emotional farewell to Wolves at the end of the 2020-21 season
Wolves are in talks with Nuno Espirito Santo about their former manager returning to Molineux. The club are conducting an extensive recruitment process after Spaniard Julen Lopetegui turned down the job. Portuguese coach Nuno was effectively sacked in 2021 after a difficult season where performances dipped following successive seventh-placed finishes. He remains popular with Wolves fans despite a brief, unsuccessful spell at Tottenham. The 48-year-old was sacked by Spurs in November after just four months and 17 games in charge. In July he was named coach of Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad on a two-year contract. Nuno's first stint with Wolves featured an impressive promotion to the Premier League in his first season in charge. He also oversaw a run to the quarter-finals of the Europa League as the club returned to continental competition for the first time in 39 years. However, momentum slowed significantly in his fourth and final season in charge with Wolves finishing 13th. The team won only three of his last 13 matches at the helm. Fellow Portuguese Bruno Lage was sacked earlier this month after a poor run of form. Wolves are in the relegation zone with just one win from nine Premier League games this season.

Doncaster Rovers: Gary McSheffrey sacked as manager after a run of seven points from eight games.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17690/production/_127188859_gettyimages-1418544121.jpgGary McSheffrey made 19 appearances for Doncaster towards the end of his playing career Doncaster Rovers have sacked manager Gary McSheffrey, with the club 12th in League Two. McSheffrey, 40, has been dismissed after a run of seven points from eight games, having also been in charge as the club were relegated last season. But while Rovers described the results in League Two as "largely positive", they have cited "a lack of progress" as the reason for their decision. Coaches Chad Gribble and Paul Green have been placed in temporary charge.

Steven Gerrard: Aston Villa sack manager after heavy defeat at Fulham..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/43A6/production/_127281371_hi079694203.jpgAston Villa have sacked manager Steven Gerrard following Thursday's 3-0 Premier League defeat at Fulham. A club spokesman said: "We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future." Villa have won just twice in the league this season and only sit above the relegation zone on goals scored. Gerrard succeeded Dean Smith as Villa manager in November 2021 after leaving his role at Rangers. But the former England and Liverpool midfielder, 42, led Villa to only 13 wins from 40 games during his 11 months in charge. After the defeat by Fulham, he told BBC Match of the Day: "Inconsistency has cost us, that's the position we find ourselves in. I took over the team in a very similar situation. We've tried to recruit to get us out of that situation. "I'm a fighter - it's in my DNA. I'll continue to fight unless I'm told differently." About an hour later his time as Villa boss was over. Before Gerrard's departure was revealed, captain John McGinn said: "It's embarrassing to be part of. We've let the travelling fans down, the manager down. It's a bad night for us. "It doesn't matter who's in charge of that team. It's nothing to do with the manager - the players have to look at themselves in the mirror. We've definitely not lost faith in [the manager] - it's us who are responsible. "He's a top manager, he's hurting just as the players are. We've let him down tonight. It's up to us now to put in a performance for him." Villa fans sang various anti-Gerrard chants during the game at Craven Cottage.

Middlesborough manager Chris Wilder is the latest,... this morning!!! Michael Carrick: Middlesbrough name former Manchester United midfielder as boss..Championship strugglers Middlesbrough have appointed former Manchester United and England midfielder Michael Carrick as head coach. The 41-year-old had been out of the game since leaving Old Trafford after a three-game stint as temporary boss after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal. Boro had been without a permanent manager since Chris Wilder was sacked, with Leo Percovich in interim charge. Carrick's first game will be at Preston in the Championship on Saturday. He had said it was not the right time for him to return to football but had a change of heart after a positive second round of talks. It is also a return to the north-east of England for Carrick, having been born in Newcastle. "Middlesbrough was the first professional club I played for as a nine-year-old boy, so it's a very special feeling to be back here as a head coach," he said. "Growing up in the north-east myself I'm fully aware of what football means to people. It's a real privilege for me to be in this position and to feel all the passion and enthusiasm you've got for the game and for Boro." He will be assisted by Jonathan Woodgate. The former Boro player returns to The Riverside having been the manager from June 2019 to June 2020. The club has also confirmed that Percovich will now take up a role as the club's head of player pathway and development.

The 38-year-old spent five seasons with the Tigers as a player between 2010 and 2015. Rosenior started the season in interim charge of League One side Derby County and replaces Shota Arveladze after the Georgian was sacked in September. He was at Tuesday's home defeat by Middlesbrough and his first game in charge will be at Millwall on Saturday. Rosenior made 144 league appearances in his time with the Tigers and was part of the side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2013 and reached the FA Cup final the following year. He left for Brighton after Steve Bruce's side were relegated from the Premier League in 2015 and retired from playing after the Seagulls won promotion to the top flight in 2017. Hull are one point and one place above the Championship relegation zone. The club have announced that Andy Dawson, who won three of his seven matches in caretaker charge, will remain on the coaching staff.

Nathan Jones: Southampton permitted to speak to Luton Town boss after sacking Ralph Hasenhuttl
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/69A4/production/_127544072_gettyimages-1436056639.jpgNathan Jones' Luton are eighth in the Championship Southampton have been given permission to speak to Luton Town boss Nathan Jones about their managerial vacancy after sacking Ralph Hasenhuttl. Hasenhuttl left the club earlier on Monday in the wake of the Saints' 4-1 home defeat by Newcastle. Southampton have won just one of their past nine matches and are in the Premier League relegation zone. Luton will allow the club to speak to Jones after their Championship match at Stoke City on Tuesday. "We would like to place on record that the Premier League club have approached the board in the correct manner, for which we are grateful, and that the whole situation is extremely amicable with Southampton and with Nathan," said the Hatters, who are eighth in the Championship table. "We would also like to urge all supporters travelling to Stoke to show him and the team your support on what we hope will be yet another memorable away day." Former Brighton and Yeovil player Jones is in his second spell as Luton manager, having taken the club from League Two to League One in his first three-year tenure between 2016-19. In 2019, with Luton on course for promotion to the Championship, he replaced Gary Rowett as Stoke boss, but returned to the Hatters 18 months later. First team coach Ruben Selles will take charge of Southampton for Wednesday's Carabao Cup third round home game against League One side Sheffield Wednesday. Hasenhuttl, who was appointed in December 2018, is the fifth Premier League manager to be sacked so far this season. Scott Parker, Bruno Lage, Thomas Tuchel and Steven Gerrard were dismissed by Bournemouth, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively, while Graham Potter left Brighton to take over as Chelsea boss.

Nathan Jones: Southampton appoint Luton boss as new manager..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A97B/production/_127578334_nathanjonesj.jpgSouthampton have confirmed the appointment of Nathan Jones as their new manager following the sacking of Ralph Hasenhuttl. Welshman Jones, 49, has left Championship side Luton Town to take up the role and has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract. Hasenhuttl, who was in charge for nearly four years, was sacked on Monday after Sunday's 4-1 defeat by Newcastle. "I'm really proud to be given this opportunity," said Jones. "I know a lot about the club from back in the days of The Dell, to coming here to St Mary's, and it's a wonderful football club." Jones watched from the stands as Saints beat Sheffield Wednesday on penalties in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday. His first game in charge will be away at Liverpool on Saturday. Hasenhuttl was dismissed after a run of one win in nine matches, with Southampton 18th in the Premier League. Jones, who signed a five-year deal with the Hatters in January, ends his second spell at Luton with the club ninth in the Championship. He will be joined at St Mary's by first team coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan. "A lot of my family are Southampton fans, which doesn't half help," Jones said.

Leam Richardson: Wigan Athletic sack manager after poor run of form..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/158E9/production/_127579288_shutterstock_editorial_13613672al.jpgWigan Athletic have sacked manager Leam Richardson after they lost six of their past seven games to fall into the Championship relegation zone. The 42-year-old led the Latics to the League One title last season in his first full season in charge. Richardson, who had only signed a new three-year deal on 25 October, initially joined the club as assistant to Paul Cook in the summer of 2017. Assistant Rob Kelly has been placed in caretaker charge. Richardson took over on a temporary basis in November 2020 after John Sheridan left with the club in administration and struggling at the bottom of League One. He guided the club to safety with a strong finish to the season and new owners Phoenix 2021 Limited appointed him on a permanent basis in April 2021. **Richardson's most vital involvement last season came away from the pitch. He was credited with helping to save the life of striker Charlie Wyke in November after he had a cardiac arrest in training - beginning cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) process before club doctor Jonathan Tobin took over. The Latics said in a statement that the former Accrington boss would "always be held in high regard by fans". "Leam will be fondly remembered as one of the most significant managers in the club's 90-year history," they said. "However, having looked at the recent run of form that is challenging the team's status as a Championship club, the board have made the decision to make a change. "The club would like to place on record it's thanks to Leam for his efforts and dedication throughout his time at the football club, none more so than during the period of administration and his instinctive reaction that helped save the life of Charlie Wyke. "A much-loved individual and someone who Latics fans will always hold in very high regard, Leam will always be welcomed back at the DW."

I find the revolving door policy at a vast majority of PL/SPL/EFL Clubs quite depressing. Here's an example of what a bit of continuity at a Club can do... Dorking Wanderers. Formed in 1999 they have climbed up the pyramid to the National League. 11 promotions in 22 years. With one manager / owner. Bournemouth make Gary O'Neil manager on permanent basis..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/6BA7/production/_127795572_hi079552825.jpgBournemouth have appointed Gary O'Neil as their manager on a permanent basis following his spell as interim boss. The 39-year-old took the helm at Vitality Stadium after head coach Scott Parker was sacked in August. O'Neil has signed a one-and-a-half year contract, which has the option to be extended for a further 12 months. Bournemouth have earned 13 points from 11 top-flight games with O'Neil in interim charge, and are 14th in the Premier League. He has also guided the Cherries to the fourth round in the Carabao Cup courtesy of a 4-1 win against Everton. That was followed by a 3-0 league win over the Toffees in their final game before the World Cup break. "We have been impressed with the way he has conducted himself from the moment he joined the club and feel he has earned this opportunity to continue to take the team and the club forward," Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said. "Gary has worked tirelessly and diligently on the training pitch and the players have responded by producing some excellent performances and results. "It was evident from the reception he received from our supporters following the Premier League win against Everton that they have also appreciated his efforts and we are all looking forward to continuing our working relationship with him."

League One side Charlton Athletic have sacked manager Ben Garner after less than six months in charge. The 42-year-old only joined the club from Swindon in June, signing a three-year-deal at The Valley. The Addicks have taken only two points from their past five League One matches to slip to 17th, however, just seven points above the relegation zone. First-team coach Anthony Hayes has been put in caretaker charge, with former club captain Jason Pearce assisting. "In his time at Charlton, the club have achieved some standout results, including big wins against some of the better teams in this league," Addicks owner Thomas Sandgaard said of Garner. "Unfortunately, we haven't been able to sustain a consistency of results and our league position and recent form have left us in a situation where we had to act to give ourselves the best opportunity to get the most from this season as well as building a positive and winning environment for future years." Garner's final game was Friday's 1-0 defeat at home to struggling Cheltenham, which saw the Addicks booed off by their supporters. After the game the former Bristol Rovers boss told the South London Press that sacking managers would not solve the club's "cultural" problems. He said: "You can keep changing manager every three or four months if you want. It's deeper than that. It's a cultural issue. It's a mentality issue. That's harder to change but that's what we've got to do. "I want to do that. I'm very willing to do that. I know I'll be successful if I'm given the opportunity to do that." Despite guiding Charlton to a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Premier League Brighton, Garner won only three of his last 16 league games in charge - dating back to August. They all came in succession in an 11-day spell in mid-October. Ben Garner Managerial Stats:BRFC - P33, W6, D10, L17 = 18.18% Win Rate Swindon - P56, W28, D12, L16 = 50% WR Charlton - P29, W9, D12, L8 = 31.03 WR Totals - P118, W43, D34, L41 = 36.44% WR

But they are now 23rd in the table with 15 points from 20 matches and have only won one of their past 11 league games. "It is with a real sadness that we have to make this decision," chairman Pete Winkelman told the club website. The former Blackpool manager was most recently assistant head coach at Aston Villa, leaving a day after Steven Gerrard was sacked in October. Critchley replaces Michael Beale, who left QPR in late November after less than six months as boss to take charge of Scottish Premiership side Rangers. QPR are ninth in the Championship following Sunday's loss to Burnley.
