Neil Critchley: QPR sack manager after 12 games in charge..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/58B4/production/_128680722_d3945b03e8e777c8dedb3e75b399c417ba4482cb.jpgQueens Park Rangers have sacked manager Neil Critchley after just 12 games in charge at Loftus Road. The west London club have gone 10 Championship games without a win and are 17th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone. Critchley, 44, was appointed in December after Michael Beale left for Scottish giants Rangers. He won his first game against Preston, but has only picked up five points from the 30 available since then. Rangers took the decision following Saturday's 3-1 defeat at third-placed Middlesbrough, and Critchley's assistants Mike Garrity and Iain Brunskill have also left the club. Critchley had a stint as assistant to Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa earlier in the campaign following just over two years as Blackpool manager, and had agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the R's. QPR chief executive Lee Hoos said it was "hugely disappointing to have to make such a decision" so early into his tenure. "However, after seeing the team slip from play-off contenders to one being drawn into a relegation battle, the board [of directors] felt it had to act," Hoos added in a statement on the club website.

Gareth Ainsworth: Queens Park Rangers appoint Wycombe boss as head coach; Matt Bloomfield to be Wanderers boss..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0211/production/_128692500_ainsworth2.jpgGareth Ainsworth has left Wycombe Wanderers after more than a decade in charge to become head coach of Championship club Queens Park Rangers. The 49-year-old has agreed a three-and-a-half-year contract and replaces Neil Critchley, who was sacked after just 12 games in charge. He will be replaced at Wycombe by Colchester boss Matt Bloomfield, who has "agreed in principle" to return. Bloomfield, 39, left Adams Park in September to take charge of the U's. Ainsworth spent almost seven years as a QPR player before joining Wycombe in 2010, becoming their manager two years later. Before his exit from Wycombe, he was second in the list of longest-serving managers in England's top four divisions.

Leeds United new manager: Javi Gracia named as Jesse Marsch's replacement..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16921/production/_128694429_whatsubject.jpgLeeds United have agreed terms with former Watford boss Javi Gracia to replace Jesse Marsch as manager. Marsch was sacked on 6 February but Leeds have faced several setbacks in their hunt for his replacement. Spaniard Gracia, 52, took Watford to the FA Cup final in 2019, before managing Valencia and Qatari club Al Sadd. Leeds are 19th in the Premier League and host bottom club Southampton in their next game on Saturday. The club say Gracia has been appointed on a "flexible contract" and will take charge of the side against Saints "subject to obtaining the necessary work permissions". Under-21s boss Michael Skubala has been in interim charge since Marsch's sacking despite club owner Andrea Radrizzani initially promising a quick appointment.

John Askey: Hartlepool United appoint former York City boss as manager..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2583/production/_128730690_shutterstock_editorial_13361229aw-1.jpgJohn Askey won promotion from the National League North to the National League with York City last season Hartlepool United have appointed former York City boss John Askey as their manager following the departure of Keith Curle. Curle was sacked on Wednesday having won eight of 29 games in charge. Pools are a point above the League Two relegation places, in 22nd place, having played four games more than second-bottom Crawley Town. "This is an exciting project to be involved with," Askey, 58, told the club's official website. "Everyone has to buy into that project. It is a quick turnaround but one we are relishing. "We ask the fans to stick with us and back the players. We will make sure that every player is giving their all for the shirt." In addition, Hartlepool have appointed former Nottingham Forest and Port Vale goalkeeper Mark Goodlad as assistant, who previously worked with Askey at York. Askey lists Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale among his former managerial positions, and he also won promotion from the National League with Macclesfield Town. During his time with York he won promotion from National League North in his first season in charge. He is Hartlepool's third manager of the season, with Curle replacing Paul Hartley in September 2022, and is chairman Raj Singh's eighth managerial appointment since his takeover of the club in April 2018. "We had to move very quickly to find out who was available and ready to come in immediately given the challenge ahead," Singh added. "A couple of people have pointed out to me that John was very popular with York fans. In fact, the majority of them would like to have him back. "For me, that is always a good sign and here's to hoping that he is just as popular and liked as much by our fans in the time ahead." Askey previously said he was "hurt" by the way in which his time ended at York, having been sacked by the club in November after just over a year in charge. York City supporters held a vote last week, with 79% saying that they wanted Askey to return to the club. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Keith Curle: Relegation-threatened Hartlepool United sack manager..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/C8D4/production/_128721415_shutterstock_editorial_13773359bb.jpgHartlepool United have sacked Keith Curle with the club languishing near the foot of League Two. Curle, 59, was only appointed in December on a contract until 2024 after taking interim charge in September. Pools lost in stoppage time at home to Newport on Tuesday to lie a point above the relegation zone having played four games more than second-bottom Crawley. They won just eight of the 29 games in which Curle and assistant Colin West took charge. Chairman Raj Singh said: "This has been one of the most difficult decisions I've had to make at Pools. Keith and Colin in so many ways have improved the football club and our culture. "They are both consummate professionals and they have genuinely been a pleasure to work with. Unfortunately we have just not seen the required results and I feel we must act now to give the club a chance in the final part of the season. "Following the transfer window we believe there is a group of players that can secure our place in the league. We will act swiftly and do all that we can to get an immediate and smooth transition in the manager position." Pools have the worst defensive record and the worst goal difference in the division and have won only six of their 33 matches so far, three of those against the two sides below them. Hartlepool returned to the EFL after a four-year hiatus in June 2021 after beating Torquay in the National League play-off final. Former England defender Curle replaced Paul Hartley, who was sacked after only three months in charge, after Pools went winless in their opening nine games. Singh is now seeking his eighth manager since taking over the club in April 2018. They host Walsall on Saturday having taken five points from their last seven matches in front of their own fans. Curle previously managed Carlisle, Northampton and Oldham, and played for Wimbledon, Manchester City and Wolves in a career that featured more than 700 appearances over 24 seasons.

Nathan Jones: Southampton sack manager after just three months in charge..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/240/cpsprodpb/179F8/production/_128606769_jones2_getty.jpgSouthampton have sacked manager Nathan Jones after just 95 days in charge of the Premier League club. Former Luton Town boss Jones, 49, leaves with Saints bottom of the table after Saturday's loss to 10-men Wolves. The Welshman, who is Southampton's shortest-serving boss in the Premier League era, lost nine of 14 matches after taking the job on 10 November. That record included eight defeats in nine Premier League games and four successive home losses at St Mary's. He is the eighth Premier League manager to be sacked this season. First-team coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club, while lead coach Ruben Selles will take charge of Saturday's Premier League match at Chelsea. Ruben Selles: Southampton appoint Spaniard as manager until end of season..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/D523/production/_128736545_gettyimages-1467343116.jpgRuben Selles has been appointed Southampton manager until the end of the season. The Premier League's bottom club sacked Nathan Jones after just 95 days in charge earlier this month, having dismissed Ralph Hasenhuttl in November. Selles' appointment comes after talks with former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch broke down. The Saints defeated Chelsea on Saturday in Spaniard Selles' one game as interim manager after Jones' sacking. Prior to the victory over Chelsea, the 39-year-old confirmed he wanted to become the club's next permanent manager, saying he had been ready to become a "number one for the last four years". Selles, who has coaching experience in Greece, Azerbaijan and Denmark, backed that up by helping his struggling side earn only their second league win since October. He had been a first-team coach at Southampton under both Hasenhuttl and Jones.

Karl Robinson: Oxford United head coach sacked after eight games without win..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B2C5/production/_128756754_robinson_pa.jpgOxford United have sacked head coach Karl Robinson after picking up just one point from eight games in League One. The U's suffered a 3-0 home defeat by Bristol Rovers on Saturday and are 17th in the table, five points above the League One relegation zone. Former MK Dons and Charlton boss Robinson, 42, was approaching five years in charge at Kassam Stadium. Coaches Craig Short, Leon Blackmore-Such and Wayne Brown have been put in temporary charge. A club statement said: "The board would like to thank Karl for his hard work and efforts in the five years since he joined, but recent results and performances mean that a change is needed." Oxford have won three of their past 16 league games under Robinson, who took charge in March 2018. He took Oxford to the League One play-offs in successive seasons, losing in the final at Wembley to Wycombe in 2020 and at the semi-final stage to Blackpool the following year. Before the Bristol Rovers defeat, chief executive Tim Williams told BBC Radio Oxford that the team was "underachieving significantly" and "results have to improve", while also saying that financial implications were not preventing the club from changing manager. Speaking after Saturday's home loss, Robinson said: "The criticism and the negativity is to be expected and is accepted.

The 42-year-old succeeds Matt Bloomfield, who left the U's last week to take the helm of League One side Wycombe Wanderers. Garner will take charge of the club after Saturday's game against Bradford. He worked in League Two last season as Swindon Town boss before leaving in June for Charlton, where he lasted just six months. Garner was sacked by the Addicks in December, with the London side 17th in League One table after collecting just two points in his final five games in charge. The length of Garner's deal at Colchester has not been disclosed, but his first game will be at home to Stockport County on Saturday, 11 March. The former Bristol Rovers boss takes over a U's side that are 19th in the table and nine points clear of the relegation places.

U's fairly likely to stay up this season as they're 19th and 9 points clear of Crawley (games in hand though) down in 23rd. So BG will probably be there for the start of next season. Not looking good for Rochdale. Great shame if they go. That will be Bury (RIP, re-formed lower down the leagues but the 2 'new' Clubs are still in-fighting), Oldham and Rochdale. 3 Clubs in close proximity north of Manchester all non-league. Very sad.

And tbh epping that should have included Bolton but the EFL gave them a lot more leeway than Bury when it was happening back in 2019. Bolton were not allowed to fail by the EFL. That would have completed the nap hand of all north of Manchester clubs failing. Some on both forums often say it must be easier being in one of the denser populated areas where there are lots of clubs to make loans easier. I, for one, think it’s better to be in your own area with less opposition but it’s only an opinion that others would disagree with. I too hope Rochdale survive in the league. UTG!

Agree, always had a soft spot for Rochdale as a kid, they were forever applying for re-election back then, but i think they will be down this season. Rochdale have been a league side since the 1921-22 season & appeared in the 1961-62 League Cup Final over 2 legs losing to Norwich City 4-0 on agg. Now, 6 points adrift with 12 to play will take a monumentous turn-around to save their league status, crossing fingers & toes might not cut it.

Feel quite sorry for them all. Rochdale in particular is a great away trip. Have some excellent memories from there even if the football wasn't always so great. Agree they've probably had it this season, but hope they return very soon. It's not universal though that clubs from the NW struggle - Salford are holding their own and slightly further afield - Accrington, Fleetwood and Morecambe are all punching above their weight.

Bolton managed to be just about 'too big to fail'. Historically strong in the league, FA cup winners, and decent support meant they were treated 'differently' by the EFL. Also that old excuse about Rovers being unable to attract players due to location is just that, another excuse for chronic and long term under-performance.

Stockport were horribly mis-managed for a number of years, and I think most people are happy they are back where they belong. They're doing well in League 2. Because Stockport have solid support they were always going to gravitate to their 'natural' position eventually. See also Wrexham and Notts County, only a question of time. When Salford's financial doping stops, they will plummet down the leagues. Fingers crossed. And only a question of time before Morecambe and Fleetwood go back to where they 'belong'. Good riddance. #oldschool

the Salford one is rather odd in the fact that "red gang accumulative" are [currently] happy to lay the money into this outfit,They believe that there is potential to take the club to the championship, having already missed two promotion deadlines i wonder how long their patience will last and if the cash will keep flowing from these guys... as an aside i believe "they" are building a rather elegant hotel in the close? vicinity, not sure if that will be linked to Salford FC or just a private enterprise

He builds things. One wonders if his ownership of a tin-pot Club in Manchester enables him to negotiate highly profitable real estate deals. What a long and proud history this Club has. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salford_City_F.C. "Since their promotion to the Football League, the club do not maintain any strong rivalries". I rest my case. Edit. And their Club badge is sh1te as well.

Clubs that are new into what is now the EFL seem to blaze an initial bright trail and then implode and drop back to former level. I can only think of a few that have lasted the course of time - wigan, the lightning cheats and arguably Wimbledon - the incarnation that was stolen by Frankenstein FC are the obvious ones. Plenty have had their five minutes of fame and are now back in non league oblivion - Kidderminster, Yeovil, Boston, macclesfield, barnet, Rubbish and Dustbins etc. Both Stevenage and Crawley have yo yo’d between l 1 and 2. Time may be running out for the latter but Stevenage look like they might hang around for a bit. More comet clubs are likely to be the onesyou list, Harrogate, Sutton and FGR

Tough on those clubs who drop into non- league and so glad we only spent one season there. Plenty of smaller clubs in non league who were previously established league clubs - Torquay, Chester York Darlington Hereford Aldershot Scunthorpe etc none of whom look like bouncing back any time soon
