I think it's a builder's merchant, or something along those lines now. Anyway, this is getting boring, Jon's people didn't materialise last week as promised, Higgs is quoted as saying he knows nothing about it, time for Jon to name names or we'll just have to make up a new story to keep the forum ticking over. Clarke can't even organise his team to lose a game of football, so I can't bang on endlessly about that Bamber. why are you continually pushing for Jon the Stripe to divulge what he knows ? You have pursued this like a Dog wanting a bone and he has stated, quite clearly, that he has said as much as he can. He has been open in what he has said and also has told us that he did it for his own reasons. I know the man and so I know that he has never before been involved in the ITK brigade so give him a break please mate. For clarity he did say that he thought that the people in question "may" make some statement this week, there are a couple of days left on that. You know how people get lambasted in here, for passing information and then not giving out their sources. It's a very brave person who is prepared for the abuse, mistrust and then some really nasty and spiteful comments. You also know that th club are good at putting out disinformation, I was used in that manner but that's another story. I just don't get why you are really going on, to try and get Jons source when he has made it abundantly clear that he has said as much as he is prepared to say. If this came from the usual people then I would probably be having a pop but Jon has no form at all in this area. We will just have to wait & see what develops. For what it's worth, I believe him. I just don't feel a need to ask for any further information is all. He doesn't like people knowing things that he doesn't. He does like some incredibly dumb people though

Hi Bridgey long time no see - Quietly confident something will happen still and stand by my original tweet that a consortium are trying to takeover the club with funds to build UWE as per original plans - i understand things are in the discussions stage still with plenty of games being played out - as a goodwill gesture i will put £50 into the FFS Club if proved completely wrong for being a pain in the ass on here or incredibly stupid and gullible! - UTG I don't know where the quote attributed to Higgs today has come from, or what the context of it is, but just reading what's been posted on here it reads as a point blank denial that he knows who this consortium are. Have they made contact with Higgs yet? It would read like a point blank denial if it was released as an official statement.....

Didn't they score our goal as well? And the b&b was a dump. Yup - 1-1 at HT and their own goal was I think the only threat to their goal in the entire 90 minutes. Must have been Parkin in our goal and he was our stand out MOTM. Honestly - we should have lost by double figures. It was fecking awful. It was the first game I took my (now) wife to. She's a gooner. She could not understand how I could possibly support such a diabolically poor side. I explained that the lads always went out and got hammered on a Thursday so they could nurse hangovers on a Friday - and be OK to play Saturday. The game was moved forward to Friday and they must have forgot. After the 1-6 humiliation I traveled to meet her parents for the first time in Southend. Her Dad (chelski fan) just looked at me and laughed - he'd been following it on teletext. Ah - happy memories. I guess the mrs "understood" what the Gas meant to me. We're still happily married after 22 years. My eldest is a 21 year old Gashead who's never lived in Bristol. And it all kind of started in Cambridge. UTG. Funny you mention Chelski, me & the mate went into London on the Saturday to watch Chelsea lose to Sheff Wed 3-0. We had the good sense to watch from the Shed a few other lads from Blagdon chose to watch from the away end. Obviously more fun until they came to leave after the game ....

Plan C - wouldn't we be better off forgetting about the UWE, moving out of the Mem and just playing away?

Crikey. This brings back memories of a game at Cambridge in the early 90s which was also moved to a Friday night. Me and my Dad went... At half time it was 1-1 and I said "I think we can sneak this". We lost 6-1... As I recall, all six were headers. Fri 28 Feb 1992. Gareth Taylor's debut at centre back too.... I also saw the game ..Dion Dublin 2 and a certain John Taylor came on as sub and scored against us and later in the season Devon White and him swapped Clubs....Gareth Taylor switched to play up front as well and the rest is history Didn't they score our goal as well? And the b&b was a dump.

For the sake of argument let's say the new consortium has to invest £50m to buy the club and build the UWE, we are told they've no previous connection with Rovers so they are clearly only here to get a return on investmnet, that surely means they want a 5 to 10% return, can you honestly see us ever generating a £2.5m to £5m profit each season when for the last decade we've made circa £1m losses p.a.? The £50m doesn't even take into consideration the vast investment needed on the pitch where Lansdown blown £50m, sorry but this just doesn't add up, either there's no consortium or there's something not quie right about the deal. Amy insane person investing in football would be looking for capital growth in their investment not a return by way of dividend income. So no reason to be making 2.5 to 5 mill profit each year, in fact any free cash / profit would actively be reinvested (players wages and fees) in the hope of capital growth. The insane investor would only be hoping that it wasn't loss making year on year.

Always glad to see how many people don't know what they are talking about when it comes to a charge over property, especially as most people will be in the position of being involved in one in their lifetime . And bollocks will I be explaining it for the fifth time on this forum.

In my experience the problems with unallocated seating are all caused by those who arrive early who insist on leaving a gap of 1 or 2 seats between themselves and the next group of people. When all the good people then arrive on time it's impossible to see those 1 or 2 seats. So if all the holier than thuo sorts could just shuffle along (after all you have plenty of time to kill) and fill those gaps the empty seats will be at the end of each row thus solving all the problems

? Have a look again and you will see the stadium and the pitch whilst Sexstone is sitting proudly in the Atyeo stand. Nope maybe i'm blind! Just a cream background and his startlingly dark eyebrows! If wcg can tell that cream background is the Atyeo Stand I suspect he spends more time at trashton than the Mem. Who would've guessed it

As Rex is desperate to contribute to the FFS rather than put the mockers on things for the rest of us perhaps he could just offer a £1 for every point Delia has managed to get Celtic behind the leaders of the Scottish Prem? And let's not even mention the connection to that lot down the road

It's funny how all of a sudden Leadbitter was a player who polarised opinion and yet now so many seem to think he is the one player that makes the difference between winning or losing. I see a player growing in confidence and whose first touch is improving a great deal but I don't believe he is the reason we are not scoring. I hope he is back soon but I hope he doesn't have such a huge weight of expectation thrust upon him. I feel a player like Trotman could have been something we need right now, personally I was gutted that he is not with us now. Sounds like the Wayne Andrews syndrome where Leadbitter becomes a better player the longer he is out & we're not winning.

to go back to opening post, the reason we are not dropping plan A and just doing plan B is fairly obvious. Plan B doesnt allow Higgs to get all his money back. Whatever you think of Higgs, and I think a lot of bad things of him, if anyone here would walk away from the amount of cash he's invested (lent/wasted) then they are a better man than me. The other possibility is if you believe in the appeal then contractually you can’t and won't do (or divulge) anything with the site until the appeal is finished. As Sainsburys are arguing the contract has lapsed and we arguing it hasn't it would destroy are argument if we sign a contract for sale before completing the appeal process.

For me we miss Monkhouse big time, for the outlet he was from goal kicks, his ability to bring others into play (normally Brown) and the fact he chipped in with some goals. A real shame we let him go. Monkhouse was released by Div 2 Hartlepool dropped down to the Conference with us and is still playing there. Whilst he's a decent Conference player there's nothing to suggest he could step back up to Div 2 football. The bigger issue is why DC didn't sign a good replacement instead of Balanta Mk2 in Montano, who seems to be a RW anyway? In fact who is Monkey's replacement? I do fear we haven't learnt from our last relegation season and we've gone into a new season without any decent wingers nor a goal scoring CF, whilst Harrison's improving can a league club realistically expect a 20 something year old to hold the front line all season? Balanta scored a wonderful goal at the weekend

Is there any licensing restrictions on how many away fans can use the South Stand?
On the face of it seems to be a wasted opportunity, much like Plymouth 's decision to go back to all ticket for away fans. I can bet which decision will get the most comments though.

Sexstone getting the county ground up to international standards!! A few hours spent on google looking for companies who supply temporary seating for events was what you would call that, and international cricket was an awful experience at Nevil Road. Glos have been in a mess since he left, it's a miracle they are in the final this weekend, as apart from Klinger & Marshall, the other players are only good enough for minor counties and club cricket. I agree - attending England v India at Bristol with the temporary stands up is the only time I have ever felt genuinely unsafe in a sporting venue. The gap round the back of the stands was woefully inadequate and created a crush - luckily people were sensible. To say Nevil Road was 'bought up to international standards' is indeed pretty laughable. 1)Those standards were utterly lamentable at the time and 2)They didn't really do that in any case. Whether he deserves the stick for Glos subsequent failures may be going a bit far though. In his own way I think he probably was quite innovative but from the perspective of 15 years on I think you can say others were far more ahead of the game. Never had a bad day at the Internationals at Nevil Road (well a few results may not have been up to scratch) but we always coughed up for the Mound Stand.

There may be something in this. Wenger is saying that it was his decision not to complete the Benzema deal. Maybe they needed that money to pay for DeGea? I mean it's difficult to know really because the Barca and Real have long existed in a completely different financially universe from everyone else even by football standards but I think it is plausible. I think it's completely possible that neither of them have ever actually turned a real profit in their history (and certainly not recently). But it doesn't really matter because as far as I can understand they are treated like national assets rather than businesses. There was certainly a time when the entiriity of Madrid's debts was secured against the Spanish crown which as a good as saying they are buttressed by the state. I doubt it's as obvious now but I'd be surprised if the same basic principle didn't apply. Barca have an equally shady arrangement with the provincial government of Catalunya. But it is possible that football has now gotten so stratospherically wealthy that even those arrangements may not quite be enough. Brizzle - not quite sure about that myself. I think there's something of air of a panto about this whole business. A lot of jumping and down but it all feels a bit like they're going through the motions and at the end of it seems like everyone may have gotten what they want. Apparently Madrid have a world beating junior keeper coming through anyway and De Gea's just become the best paid goalkeeper of all-time. United fans up here seem to think he's conducted himself with dignity - he gets a lot of praise for being professional and keeping his mouth shut etc. The EU did open a case against most (if not all) Spanish club for illegal state aid in this case the non payment & collection of payroll taxes. Don't think it has gone anywhere as the EU Commissioner responsible happened to be a big fan of Bilbao or Sociedad (forget which) who alledgedly were one of the biggest defaulters. The EU rotten to the core only slightly less worse an organisation than FIFA.
