Wouldn't disagree with that but that's DCs motivating trick, and it's why I think it will be a middish table finish as we tread water before he can clear out the squad for next season but that runs the risk of losing Taylor if he has another good season. If you think that clearing out the squad is the path to a succesful season, then you've learned nothing from the last 15 years. Okay you've miss interpreted MT 'clear out'. What I was meaning DC will know better than most of us that some players have reached their level, Gos shows that, but he made the offer Si was limited by how much he could change the squad in the summer. Next summer I'd he's not made that promise again he would be free to release the likes of Gos and bring in more players. I'm not suggesting that the majority of the squad shouldn't be here but in my view Gos,Puddy probably Lawrence won't contribute this season and DC knows that but had to stick to his promise. A squad should evolve overtime he has just shackled himself with that promise this summer. The promise was his choice and I'm sure you'll tell me he knows better than me (and I wouldn't disagree) but I'd say the other 91 league managers also no better than you and me and I'm not aware of any others making the same sort of promise.

Managers always talk about giving everyone a chance, I don't doubt that Joe Hart got the same message from Pep when he arrived. In truth the only time that is really carried through is when a club has injuries and there is no option or at the end of the season when there is nothing left to play for. At this point of a season managers put out the 11 they think will win the points, fans may disagree with those 11 & the 11 maybe proven on the pitch to be wrong but the manager will have chosen the 11 he thinks are best for the job. In this case DC has decided that he doesn't see Gos being one if those 11 and many fans would agree with that. Of course if managers truly believed in giving everyone a chance they'd be forced into changing winning teams on occasions just because Tom, Dick & Harry haven't kicked a ball yet. That's a fair comment, but if Gos hasn't been given a chance because he isn't going to be in contention for the 11, why on earth offer him a contract? Wouldn't disagree with that but that's DCs motivating trick, and it's why I think it will be a middish table finish as we tread water before he can clear out the squad for next season but that runs the risk of losing Taylor if he has another good season.

Why not give him a chance? Just a chance.. ?? Gos contributed in last few matches last season. Came on up at York and helped change it, and was one of the contributors in the build up for Browner's left foot.. I like him. Marcus obviously seen something to bring him here, and he is still young and developing. You'll be able to buy one ticket for a season ticket voucher & one for your sharescam membership. Mike knows more about our history than anyone else but tends to talk out of his arse about current events.

Total Rubbish these new signings. Johnson out. Completely understandable that you are posting here on a Rovers forum no-one really wants to talk to s**theads do they. Though you should try it occasionally perhaps you could ask them why they didn't like the appointment of Johnson?

Oh dear we're back at the judgemental 'I'm a better / true fan'. Frankly Mike you're talking out of your backside. But I'm still willing to bet £50 quid there won't be 16,000 watching the game at Portsmouth. Why don't you man up and take the bet quite happy to make it a charity bet all proceeds to the winners favourite charity. Excuse me...hotel ...you have been watching too much cricket ....was that a typo? 1,600 happy to accept that £50 bet.....my dad is bigger than yours by the way ! You said it Mike, old age must be making you forgetful. At least your bring realistic with only expecting 1,600 svsbs this time.

It's not 'Reading': we're mandated to give a run-out for their B team. Reading between the (Chris) Lines you are deluded ...any true gashead who goes to Stamford Bridge to watch a cup tie should also go to the Mem on 30 August to watch another cup tie in my opinion. Frankly it's bloody bizarre if you look at tennis they are always seeded but if the top seed goes out in the first round they don't then reseed the whole bloody draw. Absolute cobblers from an organisation fast becoming a joke. Who is there left to look after the football league clubs because it obviously isn't the Football League board. But no seed has gone out, they just haven't played. OK I'll put it simply then. At Wimbledon they make the seedings before the competition not after the first round had completed. Of course the incompetents at the Football League couldn't even manage to do that after the first round and decided to do it during the first round. Little wonder they can't get anyone to sponsor their cup competitions, who would want their name associated with those farces.

Really? We were in 21St place when he was granted gardening leave. Though I think the board were a bit hasty because there were a lot of positives to take away from the 6-2 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday We weren't in 15th when he was being followed down the tunnel and booed then? I don't have a clue when you started stalking him

Mid table this year will be very good. Think we will be 12 to 16th in the table, which will be fine. I hope we do better and flirt with the play offs. I call that The Trollope Sacking Zone. Really? Opening game about 11 years ago when Lee Hodges scored in the last minute. Can't remember if we win or drew with that goal. We won, was the opening game of the season.

It's a f**king shambles of s competition this year if Harry wants to go that's his stupid choice but I'll bet £100 that there won't be 16,000 for our game at Portsmouth. You up for a bet Harry?
Portsmouth might have got that number had they pulled Southampton but to add to the shambles it looks suspiciously like they were put in different parts of the south draw.
I'll be boycotting it full stop.

The five division of 20 was mentioned before. Found it more interesting about the point to discuss the play offs and loan players being allowed to play other games for their home teams So because Brighton missed out on promotion as they finished they want to alter theseemingly successful Play Off system which has been in placed for a decade plus. Although I can't get my head around the suggestion the 3rd & 4th team get more than one chance, what are they proposing they keep playing the 5th & 6th teams until they eventually win? The goalie one is interesting as does that mean if we lose Milders or Puddy we can bring in a loanee goalie, was that why Preston was released so DC wouldn't be forced to us him in the future? Had he ever made 5 first team appearances?

I'm afraid my ex friend (not a friend now) was charged and convicted of just that. A terrible accident occurred and police arrived shortly after with him drunk in possession of car keys away from the vehicle. This was evidence he was responsible for a tragic incident. Off topic, I know. But the spirit of what Asty says is largely true. Presumably he had been driving and they had some other evidence as well, then? Possession of car keys in itself isn't a crime. The police our f**king useless I weaved my way up Glos Rd last night fumbling my car keys and not one lazy copper arrested me. Thank god I don't believe in urban myths.

I personally always thought under the previous board ownership of the freehold was probably a moot point as there wasn't enough money in the plan to buy the freehold, indeed it even seemed we'd given away the naming rights in lieu of rent on the lease. However as a Rovers fan I was happy to take in on a leasehold basis, I want to ensure the future of Bristol Rovers and it wouldn't have surprised me if under the previous owners we'd have gone into administration and it wouldn't surprise me if that was still to happen in the future. Had a stadium been built on leasehold land and the leaseholder refused to allow any other use of that land then there would always have been a stadium for Bristol Rovers to play in, if it's built on freehold land and we go into administration then whoever owns the land after administration can do what they like with it (subject to planning permission). Still a stadium on leasehold or freehold land would be a step forward.
