Oh dear Parkesy! Thankfully as you say no one was injured
When you think back to when DC took over and Parkes was dropped and pulled aside about his lifestyle.
I don't want to say he has a problem, but hopefully he gets the help he needs. He isn't the first and wont be the last for this sort of thing.
At least he seems to have fronted up to Leyton Orient and they were prepared to take him on and presumably help him where needed (Which I hope Rovers would have done)

What a shame. Lapses in concentration behind the wheel or defending set pieces will put you in the $hit Parkesy.

Sport reflects life. You have to experience the lows to appreciate the highs. Warning - some viewers of a delicate disposition may find the following clip distressing.

He has got of very lightly money wise but if he thinks the community work is easy then he is in for a shock. In another lifetime. I was caught for drink driving and was a bad egg for awhile. I had many court appearances and fines, penalty points etc but it was the community service order that put an end to it. I tried my best to get out of it but never could. The 200 hours are not done in big chunks so it can take a long time to finish. I am glad he got this now rather than later on as it really could be a blessing for him. I guess he already knew of this before he left us ?

Not good. In addition to being twice over the alcohol limit : also took the car without permission, and no insurance.

It says : "A roadside breath test revealed he had 81 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes. ... " So I presume that means over twice over the limit. It also says " ... he decided to drive to Sutton for a few more beers." That implies he was drinking before he left, then was out until 2am drinking and then had the crash on the way home.

I'm a similar age to Parkesey and have done numerous stupid things when drunk, but have never even considered getting behind the wheel. I was once walking home from a night out and we walked past one my friend's cars and he said 'hmm I think I've parked that too close to the corner of the junction, I might move it down the road'. He wasn't paralytic but had certainly had 3 or 4 beers and a couple of vodka mixers. I literally grabbed his keys off him and told him to close his eyes and imagine his parents looking up at him in the witness box. He had a bit of a go at me at the time, but the next morning profusely apologised and thanked me.
Absolutely no time for it regardless of what Parkesy was going for (which sounds like nothing more than an immature argument). Also think it's ridiculous he tried to get out of the community order because of his profession, who in London is going to recognise a bloody lower league footballer.
On a more positive note, a few people on Gaschat that went to Weston-super-Mare last night were impressed with Hartley.

I can't believe the fine of £85! I got £600 for returning a 'who was driving' form a day late after a speed camera clocked the missus!!!! I had been out of the country which brought it down from a max £1500.0 fine.

I was fined £450 for no insurance due to not getting the insurance form in by the court appearance that showed I was insured plus 8 points. He really did get off extremely lightly and I do t understand that bit at all

Cheaper to commit GBH then get a susupended sentence! Still, rant over thats a different thread/forum!

I know the consequences where completely different (luckily for Parkesy) but all those that said they should lock McCormick up for life I would expect to have a similar opinion here. The crime is in the decision to turn the car on and put the foot on the pedal. The consequences are then a lottery.
In this day and age where there is so much awareness on the subject, this is stupidity on a huge scale and given the report of him driving to go have more drinks I would say it's very lenient. Luckily he has not harmed anyone other than himself and he can hopefully learn from it. His 200 hrs should be spent going around academies telling young pros how bloody stupid he's been.

Definitely a lucky man when you think of what could happen. I once drove for a night out on the Isle of Wight then went to the beach when the police came along to find out what was happening, and when I told them we drove but were getting a taxi back he told me I could still be arrested for being in possession of the car keys while drunk! News to a lot of people I think?
