i think its perfect,it gives dc a chance to assess the squad at the higher standard before the window shuts and the squad the chance to show him what they can do.

It's not 'Reading': we're mandated to give a run-out for their B team.

Reading B/U23s is hardly appealing. After all the club voted against the proposals, so I am happy to miss it
Can't make Chelsea anyway, so will make do with an internet stream if I can find one

I don't think you every replied to my explanation that being alligned with Championship academy sides in the same competition is clearly insulting and demeaning.

I'm really not bothered or insulted by this as some seem to be. It gives the chance for the English youngsters to play a meaningful game against men which should benefit England longer term. Let's face it that is needed after the Iceland debacle. Also we really ought to be able to take apart a kids team and progress in the cup. Yes I'm going if I am around if only to see a different type of game and opposition. (Mind you I used to regularly go to reserve games at Cossham Street in Ollies time and really enjoy it)

We should let Championship club youth teams in the English NFL league as well and if you don't agree your not a true fan like me.

Oh dear we're back at the judgemental 'I'm a better / true fan'. Frankly Mike you're talking out of your backside. But I'm still willing to bet £50 quid there won't be 16,000 watching the game at Portsmouth. Why don't you man up and take the bet quite happy to make it a charity bet all proceeds to the winners favourite charity.

(Mind you I used to regularly go to reserve games at Cossham Street in Ollies time and really enjoy it) It's not 'the English youngsters'; it's Reading youngsters. If the FA want to provide match practice for future England players, we might want to help out. As they don't, they might want to work with Reading to provide a better training programme, including competitive first team football. This is providing match practice for Reading's (nationality blind) youngsters. The chances of anyone playing in it going on to play (for England) in Euro 2020 or 2024 are minimal, and the impact of them having played Bristol Rovers in 2016 is minimal cubed. If it were intended as a means of improving future England teams, it would be vastly sub-optimal. However, no worries on that score, as it's nothing to do with improving future England teams.

I agree, why don't the FL insist that Academy clubs comprise at least 50% of English players in their squads for the EFL Cup?
