Ah, a new poster. Welcome, clichéwriteroftheSun. Setting aside the wisdom of appointing someone with Barton's record (and again he has not apologised for this but instead jokes about it in interviews), the club now has this hanging over it until November. This creates considerable uncertainty and will inevitably impact preparations for the new season. However, Barton's supporters will now extra time to explain why it is no big deal when a manager (allegedly) physically attacks another manager. Or to try to pretend that Barton is somehow the victim in this whole affair. For a character reference on Barton, you could do worse than ask the chairman at Fleetwood. The same one who effectively imposed a transfer embargo on him. Another reason why it is so laughable to hear him talk about his success at this club. I would have preferred that we had relegated with Tisdale. As it is the club's name is dragged through the dirt, both by association with Barton and by his actions. In appointing Barton, Wael and Starnes could not have made their contempt for the club or its fanbase any more apparent, could they?

I don't see how Joey Barton, who after the game may have accidently tripped up Herr SStendel when desperate for the changing room in need of a number 2. Its all just conjecture, the whole thing stinks, its definitely a case of foul play as the presumption of innocence is a legal principle that every person accussed of any crime is considered innocent until proven guilty If reasonable doubt remains the accused must be acquitted. Case Dismissed! UtG Would you give Barton the benefit of the doubt? He has form for this kind of cowardly attack. Its not a laughing matter, just as stubbing cigarettes out in people's eyes or attacking teenagers wasn't either. Its incredibly depressing to watch the club's fans degrade themselves by defending somebody who is an unrepentant thug and spiteful bully. He's already dragged the club's name through the mud and raised the prospect of further legal action by attacking previous managers. Its not even a Faustian pact, as he's a sh*t manager. The team last season was very poor, but they were outside of the relegation places when he arrived. By the time Joey had worked his magic, they were rock bottom. Its just laughable hearing him talking about how he hopes to recreate his 'success' at Fleetwood, Barton is utterly toxic and the sooner he is out of the club, the better. And the people who employed him (Starnes and Wael) can follow as well, because they decided to bring somebody of this calibre into the club. Thank you, juror number 5.
Based on the evidence reported so far, dismissing the case would have been preferable. However, a November court date doesn't look too bad for the club. Barton can get on with the process of assembling a decent squad. Get on with preseason and has the first 4 months of the season to prove whether he can turn the fortunes of the team around. If he's as bad as you say rideintothesun, he may not even be Rovers manager by the time the court reconvenes.

Joey Barton's new trial will take place on Friday, November 26. The Bristol Rovers manager's trial was stopped yesterday due to issues with the video link to Germany for Daniel Stendel's evidence and concerns over translation. Good grief, that is a long time away. 'Project re-set' is set to continue then.

How can it not affect the start of the season if the club do not know what will happen if Barton is found guilty? If he is banned from the game for a lengthy period (and this would be entirely justified given his past record), then what happens?
And what happens to the players he has brought to the club? Or, to be more precise, his mates from his previous clubs.
And of course having this hanging over him is going to affect him. This is one of the reasons why companies suspend people until allegations are either proven or dismissed.
He's already demonstrated that he is a terrible manager. The team weren't rock bottom when he arrived. His attacks on previous managers and anybody but himself show he isn't fit for the job. He doesn't start next season with a clean slate, not by any means.

I imagine JB wants this dealt with sooner than later and is probably pretty fed up with it. It’s not nice to have such stuff hanging over you and also his silk will not be cheap. I wonder if he is paying for Csoka or someine else ? I think you should save any sympathy for Stendel, as he is the victim here, not Barton. And its not as if Barton won't be fully aware of the costs of legal proceedings, having been involved in so many legal cases before. If Barton had actually acknowledged his previous actions and sought to change his ways, then there would be grounds for sympathy. As it is, he is an unrepentant thug. It’s not me showing sympathy but merely stating that, even if guilty, it’s really kin horrible to have this kind of thing hanging over you, like the fabled sword of Damocles. I imagine Mr Stendel is not feeling any stress over this.

You have summoned up a point of view very well. If you are a completely new poster, welcome. Fantastic writer. I don’t entirely agree with all of your post. I don’t have that much problem with Joey’s colourful past. He was no more violent on a pitch than V Jones or a J Fashinu, though perhaps a less tolerant era of such things. The media like world of heroes and villains, so it’s all bigged up a bit. Stubbing out cigar in someone’s face? If you went to a fancy dress and some twat tried setting fire to your costume behind your back, how exactly would you react? In terms of thug and anger management problem, take a look at video’s posted above of Pearson, Barton is nowhere in Pearsons class. Therein I would agree. Pearson at least has delivered as a manager. And he will for City next year. Barton hasn’t yet, and if you look at how he goes about all the facets of football management, you are right, he is rubbish. Barton can never succeed as a manager. His match management was probably worst we have seen down here for many a year. Some Gashead are embarrassing themselves reading across Barton’s personality and celebrity status as good at football management. There are people out there we are less familiar with, who would do a damn better job at game, man management and recruitment and turning Rovers around than this crew, if the clubs recruitment was savvy enough to hire them. The big loser from the last 18 months of embarrassment and mediocrity is Wael. I would defend him 18 months ago, never again. Just want him gone now. **** owner.

The timing of the new trial is fantastic for rovers. I’m quite happy Barton is staying put really. Sacked due to football ban wouldn’t have been cathartic enough to unite the divided Gashead community. Some would still argue they were right about Barton turning us round, without being proved hopelessly wrong. I think the best way for Rovers to draw a line under Barton is sack him in December if his record in L2 is no better than the start Garner made in League 1. If Barton falls short of the yardstick Garner set + the limp error strewn slump to bottom place last season, not much argument with that sacking, the best way to settle things to bring gas heads back together behind the new manager. I still say Wael and his crew are unconvincing owners, and that’s the big problem for the long future.

And me. On the up side, he may not be our manager by then. Surely that would be a massive downside, as it would mean we had started the season very poorly. I can't believe you want that Annie. Some of the others on this sad thread, yes. Not you.

I hope Wael is learning from the experience to improve as an owner.

Some of the others on this sad thread, yes. Not you. Nope. Alongs we stay up. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING for next season is finding out if Barton has got it or not, and if clearly not his fan club drift away from him. So we are all back together again behind new manager. Listen to what the Posh owner been saying. He knew he had the unit to set the goals up, just needed to bring in the finisher. Barton and his Gashead supporters so sweet in their footballing ignorance have actually been blaming our forwards for lack of goals, not failure of the unit to create the chances. Is Project Cloggers addressing the lack of decent chance creation? Nope. In fact the most natural finisher at the club free transferred, the two best assist kings from wide positions already gone. #projectclueless.

So Busboy, are you saying that a 22nd place finish next season would be OK,on the proviso that the current manager is no longer in place. If so, Jesus.

So Busboy, are you saying that a 22nd place finish next season would be OK,on the proviso that the current manager is no longer in place. If so, Jesus. Nope. Not what I am saying at all. I’m actually more optimistic and less anti Barton than you are trying to twist it. And more realistic. Today has been a good day for rovers. If Project Barton works and we get a top ten finish, I don’t have a problem with that. Some people do, I don’t, because even with a past he deserves a shot at redemption. If there is such a thing as a bad seed, rather than just bad cultivation, bad seeds will show themselves up eventually and end up in the bin. But should we applaud each time a bad seed goes down? Is that the way we want to the world to be? Sure I’m not convinced Barton is much as a manager, but if he proves me wrong and delivers success, a top 10 finish next season is okay in my book, no problem. Of course there will be some who view 10th next season as not good enough, big club and all, but considering the mess we are in today I disagree. if it doesn’t work we need to stay up. if it doesn’t work, and people still clinging to Barton saying give him more time, then, Jesus as you say. Let’s not underestimate what doesn’t work is in league 2. It can be relegation. How we dropped out before, with some fine players here. How we just finished bottom of league 1 based primarily on not creating enough good chances. I think this situation, with the trial and any possible ban from December not June is great, best of all for the Gashead tribe, I am really happy with this, it gives Barton a window and as many matches as Ben Garner to prove himself. He currently has as bad a record here as Garner. however way it goes, today I feel it’s going to be okay for rovers now. Provided we manage to stay up. With the 18 months we just had, with a whole lot of factors to blame for it, with us knowing how tricky league 2 can be, 10th to 22nd is okay, Barton definitively proving himself a capable manager or failure by December is merely a cathartic bonus we have been gifted. Every battling point won is a point nearer safety in my book.

Does this mean the EFL/FA disciplinary process is also put on hold until November?
