'I want to keep pushing and this is a huge moment for me' - Lloyd Kelly..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/a22a/live/dd1fc000-45d9-11ef-b5e4-ed3a2b9245c9.jpgNewcastle United defender Lloyd Kelly says it is "amazing" to look back on his footballing journey, but he wants to "keep pushing" to achieve more. The 25-year-old joined the Magpies on a free transfer in June after his contract with Bournemouth came to an end. He played 23 times in the Premier League for the Cherries last season and is reuniting with his former coach Eddie Howe, who took him to the south coast from Bristol City for £13m in 2019. Kelly has previously spoken of his childhood growing up in foster care and this latest move has given him a chance to reflect on his football journey so far. Speaking at Newcastle's pre-season training camp, Kelly said: "You don't always have time to sit back and think about where you have come from, what you have done in the past and your journey you have been on. "The football industry is so fast paced, so when I look back to where I started and where I am now, it is amazing. "A lot of hard work has been put into making that happen. I want to keep pushing and this is a huge moment for me - but at the same time I want more, to achieve more." It was while in the foster system that the England Under-21 international began his football journey in the Bristol City academy and he feels his time in care has helped him be adaptable. "It's something I've been through my whole life - being put in different situations and being able to adapt to them and make the best out of each one," he added. "So moving from Bristol to Bournemouth and now up north is never really something that has affected my decision making. It is just something I am used to."

Newcastle are in advanced talks with Sheffield United to sign the Blades' 20-year-old Danish striker William Osula for an initial £10m. Nottingham Forest are not looking to cash in on 24-year-old English midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, despite interest from Newcastle, Arsenal, Aston Villa & Chelsea.

Here are some of your comments:
Adz: Absolutely love it. Great to see the 80's NUFC badge. Well done Adidas. Mark: I like the old crest but the green arm bands look awful. Jack: A thing of beauty. Just need some marquee signings to push on this season and make it a club classic #ChangeTheBadgePermanently Stephen: Perfect, but when will they wear it? Edwin: Big fan of using the NUFC badge for a third kit - a really nice idea. However, could do without the hint of green that seems to be embedded into every alternate kit we have these days.

West Ham are interested in England right-back Kieran Trippier, with the 33-year-old's future at Newcastle yet to be decided. Liverpool maintain a strong interest in England and Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon. However, a deal to buy the 23-year-old collapsed in June and Gordon's price will likely be elevated.

New Newcastle United signing William Osula said he "had to take the chance" to join the club.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/08/10/88300659-13722825-image-a-17_1723108005094.jpgThe 21-year-old striker made 21 appearances in the Premier League for Sheffield United and has joined for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £15m. Speaking to Newcastle's official club website, external Osula said: "I'm very happy to be here. It's a big club, a great club, so I'm very happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle United. "It's a great opportunity, and as soon as I heard about Newcastle's interest, I knew I had to take the chance to join this club if it came. "It has come, and I'm really happy to be here." Newcastle boss Eddie Howe added: "William is a talented young forward with all the attributes to be an exciting player for Newcastle United. "We have watched his development closely and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with him in this next step in his career. "I know our supporters will join me in giving William a very warm welcome to the club and the city."

Here are some of your comments:
Richard: So, this is what the future is going to look like, we sign a lot of young players with potential - stocking the cupboards for want of a better expression - and then sell them at a profit later in order to meet PSR. Obviously, players with the most potential will get the most interest and biggest fees. So don't get attached to any of them. Leonard: It looks as if Newcastle are buying from the bargain basement, with the opportunity to sell on players in the future, shying away from overspending. Liam: Three goals in 31 games doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, but he was playing in one of the worst teams in Premier League history, so I'm willing to give him a chance. Andrew: Genius! We have two fantastic centre-forwards in Wilson and Isak. Instead of buying a fully developed striker and needing to sell players, we've purchased a youngster who can learn from Wilson and Isak, but can cover if we have another injury crisis. Welcome to Tyneside! Under Howe, you'll become the best you can be! Stephen: Great signing, youth and ambition, but where is the winger? Ian: A strange one. 21 Premier League outings last season would suggest that he will settle in quickly. The impression given is that he is a rough diamond that needs polishing. Does this mean that there are no young strikers already at the club who have the potential to step up? Physically he fits the bill.

Speaking to the media ahead of the games against Genoa and Stade Brestois in the Sela Cup, he said: "We have to have high expectations of ourselves and we have to push ourselves internally. "I think it's slightly different when you're in my position, because yes, you can have your targets, but nothing's going to be given to you. You have to earn the right to get to that point. And we have a very difficult Premier League season ahead because the competition is so high. We have to improve from last year. "We've been working hard in pre-season to improve certain aspects of our play. Hopefully that shows by the time we kick off and we can build consistency and confidence in our game early. "When I look at the squad, with the majority of the players fit, we look really strong. It is a very competitive squad. "We have a couple of players to get back into the group. Callum Wilson and Matt Targett are the closest and they will make a massive difference. Obviously, there are then the longer term ones behind them."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/036f/live/403d0a50-33a4-11ef-90be-b75b34b0bbb2.pngI feel like last season's top three will be the same this time, although not necessarily in the same order. After that, there are going to be four or five teams challenging for fourth place. I am pretty confident Newcastle will be one of them, although the dream is still for them to win a trophy. It's the same as every year, really, in that I'd love to see them go deep in a domestic cup... and finally win one. Can they do both? Well, you would never say having no European football is a good thing but the one positive to Eddie Howe's side not being involved this time is that their workload is a lot less than when they were in the Champions League. What cost Newcastle last season was their horrific injury list and they cannot afford for the same thing to happen again if they are going to do well, so fewer demands, in terms of playing once not twice a week, should help them. Not having Nick Pope in goal was a massive miss when he was out for so many months so having him back fit, and hopefully staying fit, is another reason I am hopeful they will be in and around the top end of the table.

Newcastle 1-0 Southampton: What Eddie Howe said:i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/30/10/87931981-13687397-Eddie_Howe_has_insisted_he_is_fully_committed_to_Newcastle_ahead-a-7_1722332721930.jpgEddie Howe spoke to BBC Match of the Day after Newcastle's victory against Southampton: “It wasn’t an enjoyable game to experience. The result is unbelievable for us, but how we got there was very, very difficult. The sending off changed the game completely. “We knew what type of game it would be. Before the sending off we had our moments, but we weren’t in control of the game. I don’t know if a sending off ever truly helps you, but it gets the crowd to inspire you – and that made a difference. “Last season we scored a huge amount of goals but conceded too many. The guys with ten men produced a really good defensive performance. To a man we were blocking shots, we were covering space very well. On another day we could have played better with the ball.” On Fabian Schar’s red card: “The big question is do you want a red card for that. Does Fabi’s action alone warrant a red card? I’m not sure.” On Bruno Guimaraes’ display: “Defensively he covered every blade of grass. He was immense today.”

We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League game between Newcastle United and Southampton.
Here are some of your comments:
Newcastle fans
Davey: A very good, battling performance after a blatant piece of cheating from Brereton Diaz. Schar shouldn't have got involved, but the ref was poor all game. We will play a lot better and need a couple of additions just to boost the crowd and freshen the squad. Great to have Big Jo back. Gordon: The very epitome of an 'ugly' win. The red card was harsh and spoiled the match as a spectacle, but at least Newcastle defended well and clung on to the points. Luckily Southampton weren't good enough to capitalise on the advantage their play-acting gave them. Alex: Hate to say it but before the sending off, and after it in the first half, I thought Southampton were the better team. They were superior technically and impressed me a lot with their skill at playing out from the back and mixing it with long balls to beat the Newcastle press. I will happily take the three points, though!

Newcastle 2-1 Tottenham: What Eddie Howe said:i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/30/16/89099785-13797125-image-a-8_1725032903798.jpgNewcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to Sky Sports: "I think it's always important to try to build momentum in your season and it's been a turbulent time for the club off the pitch throughout this last transfer window. "But that's shut now, so hopefully we can just concentrate on the football and get the players playing as well as they can."

Here are some of your comments:
Newcastle fansDavid: It was one of those games. Spurs did not take their chances and we punished them for it. They were the better team but grit and finishing got us through. Nathan: I think there's something missing tactically for Newcastle - we shouldn't have that little of the ball. However this completely shows why our attacking players were linked with £50m+ and £100m+ moves because they are that good. Ward: We took our chances and Spurs didn’t, plain and simple. Sandro Tonali made a big difference when he came on, stabilising the midfield and spreading the play. We’re still not clicking though and will be struggling when we have any injuries after a disappointing transfer window. Nick: Seven points out of a possible nine is a fantastic start to the season, considering we’ve not been at our best. Lucky to beat Spurs but we got the job done and have a platform to build on for the rest of the season. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/01/15/89158319-13801877-image-a-22_1725202203100.jpg

Newcastle have dismissed suggestions that Trippier wants to leave the club to move to Saudi Arabia or Turkey. Newcastle and Northern Ireland defender Jamal Lewis, 26, is closing in on a move to Brazilian club Sao Paulo. Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Eyupspor are all interested in signing Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier, after Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad also tried to sign the 33-year-old. Newcastle will try to sign Nottingham Forest's 22-year-old Sweden winger Anthony Elanga again in future transfer windows.

Newcastle United's attempts to sign 24-year-old Lille and Canada striker Jonathan David have been dealt a blow by Barcelona entering the bidding. Match report by Phil McNulty, Chief football writer at Goodison ParkEverton and Newcastle United were both left frustrated after playing out a scrappy stalemate at Goodison Park. Newcastle United played the more controlled football in a frenetic contest but squandered a first-half penalty when former Everton forward Anthony Gordon saw a first-half penalty saved by England keeper Jordan Pickford. Gordon had been taunted by Everton's fans from the first whistle but missed the chance to silence his tormentors when his poor spot-kick was saved by Pickford diving to his left after James Tarkowski was rightly penalised for foolishly dragging Sandro Tonali to the floor at a corner. Everton had earlier seen an Abdoulaye Doucoure header ruled out for offside and Tonali's shot was cleared off the line by Iliman Ndiaye as both sides tried to make the breakthrough in a scrappy encounter. Gordon missed another big chance late on but Everton also wasted a huge opportunity when substitute Idrissa Gueye blazed over an open goal after Newcastle keeper Nick Pope had saved from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who had his claims for a penalty after clashing with defender Dan Burn chasing the rebound turned away by referee Craig Pawson.
