I'm a bit slow on the uptake!!
I saw Gloucester City play only 2/3 weeks ago - I'm pretty sure they're the Non-League Tigers.

Original at least. Dolly Blues is the nickname. I think I put Yeltz without anyone getting it!

SL ND RS - Islanders - Canvey Island? Beat FGR in the 2001 Trophy Final. RBLS - Rebels - Pretty sure that's Slough Town - Currently my nearest ground! Think TRRS might be Terras, but no idea who they are SL ND RS - Islanders - Canvey Island? - Correct on both counts.RBLS - Rebels - Pretty sure that's Slough Town - Currently my nearest ground! - Right nickname, wrong team.Think TRRS might be Terras, but no idea who they are - Right nickname and I see Weymouth since guessed correct too.

Think you're right. Looks like I've put a T instead of a L. Maybe I got mixed up with The Shots.

Think I've messed up with STS. I can't think what I was thinking of now! A couple close to it are league teams. This was bugging me, so I've cheated and looked some of them up. Without (hopefully) giving it away... Dolly Blues are a bit minority and distant, to be frank - characterful name though. Yeltz again aren't v mainstream, but now I know I've a vague thought I've heard of it before wrt that place, so might have been doable. On the other hand: the only (two) squirrels I can find: one v minor league who folded over the summer, and one a national team from a small state in west Africa. The other Rebels I found are also pretty minor league (and 'Rebels' really is overstating it imho given the explanantion for the name on Wikipedia). The only reference to mushrooms I can find relates to another v minor league side giving them away as a publicity stunt (which has now reached here, so good one): did the name stick to them? Appointment with BBC2 at 8:30.

Switching from Only Connect to QI, the reason for 'Yeltz' is a "Nobody knows". One 'QI' nickname I missed out is 'The Knitters' for Hinckley United.

Geraint, Brian, David, Steve Almost. 3/4 on that line. Think you've got the connection; that works, but not the one I'm looking for.

Update:
Ryan, Geraint, Brian, David = All Williams's to have pulled on the Blue & White Quarters.
Harold Jarman, Barry Meyer, Wally Hammond, Ron Nicholls = All played football for Rovers & cricket for Gloucestershire.
Which leaves...
Donnie Keith Steve Lee John Peter Wayne Ray

4 of them are goalies, no? There might be, but not what I'm looking for. Would think you've got a good chance with one line, going by a previous guess ...
