Bristol Rovers break silence on Jonson Clarke-Harris links after Peterborough Utd transfer listing..by Jordan Jones. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article2843722.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_GettyImages-1139345778.jpgBristol Rovers CEO Tom Gorringe has commented on transfer links with Peterborough United striker Jonson Clarke-Harris. Earlier this week, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony suggested that three League One clubs had been chasing the 29-year-old. He revealed that the third club had come out of ‘nowhere’ and since then Gas social media has gone into overdrive. Rovers have recently been taken over by Kuwaiti businessman Hussain AlSaeed and are keen to back Joey B***** in the transfer market. The 40-year-old is keen to finish his transfer business before the deadline and a striker could be on his wish list. Clarke-Harris is someone who fits the bill given how proven he is at this level. The Jamaica international got 27 goals last season and was the joint-top scorer in the league but has been transfer listed by Peterborough who are keen to cut costs. “Jonno is somebody we know really well,” said Gorringe to Lewis Railton. “He was obviously with us during my time here. “I spoke to him on-and-off since he’s left. He’s a brilliant player and a really good lad.” Gorringe however refused to be drawn in to the specifics of Rovers’ transfer strategy. It was however confirmed on Friday that Aston Villa loanee Lamare Bogarde would be returning to the Memorial Stadium in a welcomed boost to B*****’s plans. The 19-year-old will spend the entirety of the 2023/24 season in the blue and white quarters, having made 18 appearances during a six-month loan spell last year. Last week Andy Mangan predicted that business would be ‘exciting’ and over the course of the week they’ve signed Harvey Vale, Lamare Bogarde and League One play-off winner Jack Hunt. Gorringe added: “We’re not in a position to confirm who we’re going after in terms of any players at this stage. “Jonno scores goals, and I’m sure wherever he’ll end up, he’ll have a positive season.” ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/107DB/production/_129874576_gettyimages-1460277335.jpg

Very good player at this level - but you have to ask yourself why no Championship club has taken a gamble on him. You'd think he would be a perfect fit for somebody like City.
I think there are issues around his attitude and I don't think he pulled up trees when Posh were in the championship. I think he will end up at somebody like Charlton or Derby.

Not sure what to make of this. Hussain appeared to be managing expectations and playing down a push for a play-off place. If JCH signs it would smash the transfer record held for 30 years, and would be a real statement of intent. Unless it's being subsidised by Collins moving on?

Re Collins we appear to have options for the positions he is currently playing, he has not yet played up top. In 4 2 3 1 he has played centre or left. We have Evans, Brown, Macca for centre. For wide we have, Vale, Thomas, Sinclair, Thomas, Brown, Jones. Have we recruited for him to go?

Bristol Rovers news: Jonson Clarke-Harris transfer boost as Peterborough United warning sent..by Jordan Jones.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E051/production/_119952475_shutterstock_editorial_12257213ct.jpgBristol Rovers have received both a boost and a warning in their rumoured pursuit of Peterborough United striker Jonson Clarke-Harris. The 29-year-old is said to be on the Gas' radar ahead of Friday's transfer deadline, with a player of his calibre seen as the final piece of the jigsaw. Rovers are in the market for a striker with Joey Barton making an admission on Saturday that he believed that Clarke-Harris was keen to move towards the direction of Bristol. As Barton admitted publicly about the pursuit of the forward, Clarke-Harris was on the score sheet for the Posh last Saturday in their 4-2 defeat to Derby County. He has been transfer listed by the club, but has so far not found a suitor for his services. Now things are beginning to heat up, with Darragh MacAnthony admitting earlier this month that three clubs are in the race for him. It has been revealed by Peterborough Today however that one of those clubs Bolton Wanderers, are unlikely to sign him. It's been reported that Bolton had the opportunity to bid for him earlier this summer and didn't take up the offer amid concerns he wouldn't fit into their system. Bolton had been under the threat of losing Dion Charles, with both Stoke City and Watford said to have had an interest, but he signed a new three-year contract with the Trotters on Sunday. His new contract offers him and the club security, but means that they are unlikely to make a move now for Clarke-Harris, given they’ve kept hold of one of their star players. Peterborough are keen to recoup the £1m they paid for the forward from Rovers back in the summer of 2019, and that would mean for Rovers to be successful in their pursuit, they would need to make him their club record transfer fee. It’s been 31-years since the Gas paid a reported £390,000 to Queens Park Rangers for Andy Tillson, who remains their record signing. Rovers have officially until Friday to finalise a move for Clarke-Harris or any forward, but they along with other suits have been told what will be needed for the Posh to part with the two-time League One Golden Boot winner. ‘There are three clubs interested in ‘Jonno,’ said Darragh MacAnthony last week in his Hard Truths podcast, which was later transcribed by the Peterborough Telegraph. ‘I expect they will try and take the mickey for the first three days of next week, but if they don’t come up with what we want I’ll tell them to **** off and ‘Jonno’ will stay with us.’ ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A146/production/_120668214_shutterstock_editorial_12374601ch.jpg

Are the rumours correct
Is it a done deal Jch on loan with view to buying if he scores 15 and gets us into play offs..with hopefully a debut hat trick against Lincoln on Saturday and our first home win of the season?

Loft going to Port Vale?
Let's hope Bristol City who have £23m burning a hole in their pockets don't poach Aaron Collins for £2m and he becomes another snake!

James Connolly on loan to Morecambe for the season We paid a fee to Cardiff for James, he played 31 times for us in League 1 last season, he's 22 in November and now he's going back to League 2. JB must think James is not good enough for a promotion chasing League 1 side and he doesn't have time to keep trying to improve him to the desired playing level so James will have to go out on loan. All very strange when Hussain Al Saeed said a few weeks ago that his aim was to not give JB more money for the football budget but to develop the club slowly and sustainably with no "rush" to get promotion.

Surprised you have not pointed out Barton great at developing players. Prepared to improve youngster from Brentford over our own player. JB has paid good money for Loft Macca Connolly Taylor None featuring last weekend. Where's Basel with his spin.

For a compulsive gambler he's put himself in a great position because our owners are paying the stake money and the majority of Gasheads are relying on him to tell us what constitutes a "win". At the moment we are told the "win" is "the best squad we've had in years" but that could change dependent on football results and Barton's mood. If he was gambling in a calculated way there might be some justification for it but he is reckless and haphazard. The players with potential to develop like Loft, Gibbons, McCormick, Connolly, Taylor, Grant, Jones, Hoole and Gordon were given nice contracts but now they seem to be out in the cold. And in have come a group of expensive "loan fee" loanees together with the "ageing stars" here for their last pay packet. The message is "we are going for it" but has anyone told Hussain Al Saeed ?

Watching them in training, their professionalism, workrate. Also the coach would tell the player “I want to see this, this and this” and take a dim view of the player if they don’t see it over a course of time.

Six of those players were recruited by the coach. Four of those players cost a transfer fee. Are you saying it's OK to buy players and then determine if good enough? Will await the team for Sat, but I feel the club is losing identity. Cox, loan, doubt we will sign him. Hunt, two years deal, will then be 30+, possibly on the way down. Wilson, 34 , 2 year deal, and then retirement? Crama, loan, doubt we will sign. Friend, 35, 1 year then retirement. Ward, good signing. Bogarde, another loan we will not sign as is Vale. Collins, Brown and Thomas, good signings who may improve. Sinclair, nostalgic return, last season? Woods another loan, 28 so a possible signing. How will Hoole, Gordon, Ward, Jones, Grant improve? Close to a team of journeymen.
