Casemiro thought he had grabbed a point for the visitors when he headed home with less than 10 minutes left to cancel out Crysencio Summerville's 74th-minute opener. But United were furious as referee David Coote was sent to the pitchside monitor by the video assistant referee to review Matthijs de Ligt's challenge on Danny Ings in the box. Despite protests from United's players over a handball by Ings, Coote pointed to the spot and Bowen calmly converted, slotting past Andre Onana. The Premier League later explained on its Match Centre account on X that there was "sufficient contact" to award the penalty. "The referee did not award a penalty to West Ham for a challenge by de Ligt on Ings," it said., external "The VAR deemed there was sufficient contact on Ings' lower leg and recommended an on-field review. The referee overturned his original decision and awarded a penalty." United dominated possession and chances in the first half at London Stadium, but the visitors lacked a clinical edge and were left to rue their missed chances. After a lacklustre first half, West Ham were an improved side after the interval and peppered United's box with attacks, and they were eventually rewarded when Summerville slid in to direct Ings' scuffed effort into the back of the net. The result leaves United 14th in the Premier League with just three wins in their opening nine matches. It is a statement win for West Ham, however, as they move one place above United after an underwhelming start to the season. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/27/15/91341373-14007979-image-a-63_1730044786096.jpgJarrod Bowen's controversial stoppage-time penalty saw West Ham beat Manchester United

West Ham 2-1 Man Utd - the fans' verdict
We asked for your thoughts after Sunday's Premier League game between West Ham and Manchester United.
Here are some of your comments:
West Ham fansJames: I think we were lucky to win that one. Manchester United should have had us dead and buried by half-time. We were much better in the second half though. I'm delighted for Summerville getting his first goal, hopefully the first of many. I don't think it was a penalty, if I'm honest, and any team would be unhappy if that was given against them. Mick: After 15 minutes, the question was: how many would Manchester United score? West Ham didn't have a defence! A total shambles. We were slower everywhere and had no fight and no ideas. Absolutely shocking. A team that can't defend against a team that can't score, what a joke! The changes helped - Summerville needs to start now and Antonio should be benched. We were very lucky. Martyn: Relegation beckons, it's a reality. We can't even score enough goals on this rare occasion where we dominated. We are still too slow and ponder our build up, allowing the opposition to regroup and reorganise. David: Papering over the cracks. We made a very poor Manchester United look like Brazil. Lopetegui can't carry on like this with no pace in midfield. Summerville has to start games now that Kudus is unavailable. I still think Lopetegui was the wrong choice and he is definitely still on borrowed time. He is certainly no improvement on David Moyes. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/27/17/91343623-0-image-a-13_1730051897062.jpg

Nottingham Forest 3 West Ham United 0
We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League game between Nottingham Forest and West Ham.
Here are some of your comments:
West Ham fans:Liam: I was there. We were hopeless. The body language of the players said it all. No communication, no pace, no plan and no desire. Manager will soon run out of time. Forest were everything we were not so fair play to them. Ten men or not, I suspect the result would have been the same. Joe: The rhetoric will be the mistake was to get rid of Moyes. Wrong, the mistake was hiring Lopetegui. It's 12 competitive games now and I am still no clearer on what his style of play is or what his strongest team is. He’s clueless and the players are clearly not playing for him - Alvarez red and our constant capitulations when going behind are clear examples. Matthew: Same old West Ham. No energy, no desire to get the ball forward and a real lack of cohesion appearing in the increasing cracks within our squad. Paqueta looks like he doesn't want to play for us anymore, we'll never get a goal at the City Ground and Chris Wood will keep on scoring against us till he's 49! Roger: After 10 games there has been no discerning improvement. The strategy is lacking as is an absence of in-match tactics. The team are vulnerable at the back and the midfield absent at critical phases of the game. I can’t see that things are going to improve while Lopetegui remains.

West Ham United 0 Everton 0
We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League game between West Ham and Everton.
Here are some of your comments:
West Ham fansJayden: First half - once again so, so poor. They must start better. The performance was criminally bad. The changes certainly helped, but the clumsy and tepid play must stop. No ideas and no pace. Bowen and Somerville can be excused. He should start Ings and use Antonio as the late joker. Ings can't do any worse. Long, hard season ahead of us. Graza: One of the worst games of football I've ever watched. I've seen worse performances from individual teams, but rarely two together to produce such a spineless, insipid, waste of time. For West Ham's part, no-one wanted the ball. Several times, at throw-ins or when we were up the pitch, everyone was hiding behind a defender trying not to get involved. Gutless. Mark: One of the dullest games I've ever watched and I'm a season ticket-holder so have watched a few. Manager has to go. He has had zero impact. We have no shape, pass sideways and players are always picking up the ball standing still.

Arsenal are ready to spend £83m (100m euros) on West Ham's Mohammed Kudus, with the forward keen to join the Gunners to play European football. West Ham are set to stand firm on attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus' £85m release clause, with Liverpool and Arsenal both monitoring the 24-year-old West Ham are closely monitoring Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey, 24, and are well placed to beat Everton and sign the Ghana international on a free transfer in the summer. West Ham are looking at a move for 22-year-old Manchester City midfielder James McAtee in January, as they fear losing Lucas Paqueta. West Ham and Southampton are both chasing 16-year-old twins Cole and Dylan Williams, with the Scottish midfield pair currently at Airdrie.

Jarrod Bowen had told his dad this "could be my time to score for England" before getting his first Three Lions goal on Sunday.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11/17/18/92168619-0-image-a-13_1731869146190.jpgThe West Ham forward scored England's fourth in their 5-0 romp over the Republic of Ireland that saw them promoted from their Nations League group. Bowen's strike came from his first touch of the ball, just seconds after entering the pitch as a substitute. The 27-year-old only came into the squad late having been called up following a number of withdrawals. "It is an honour to play for England every time I get the opportunity so to score that first goal was always on my mind," Bowen said after the match. "I wasn't meant to be in the squad, I knew when the manager called me and asked me if I was willing to come in it was a no-brainer. It's an honour to come in. "I said to my dad this could be my time. You need a little bit of luck and I got that. "For me it was a different situation to one that I have been in before but I thought this could be an opportunity for me to score and it paid off."

Meanwhile, West Ham and Fulham are both interested in a January move for Manchester City and England Under-21 midfielder James McAtee, with the 22-year-old limited to just one Premier League minute so far this season. Arsenal and Liverpool will not be able to sign Mohammed Kudus for less than his £85m release clause next summer, with West Ham determined to keep hold of the 24-year-old winger.

Julen Lopetegui 'has just TWO games to save his West Ham career'..by Lewis Browningi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11/20/21/92304179-14107325-image-a-7_1732138935422.jpgJulen Lopetegui has two games to save his West Ham career, according to a report. The Hammers boss has overseen a difficult stat to his time in charge of the club, with his side 14th in the Premier League table amid an underwhelming 11 games in the opening months of the season. They have three wins from their matches so far, conceding 19 goals and suffering some damning losses, including 3-0 defeats by Nottingham Forest and Chelsea and also losing 5-1 to Liverpool in the League Cup. The club invested heavily in the summer, signing the likes of Max Kilman for £40million and Crysencio Summerville for £25m, but are yet to see a return for their investment. It was also over the summer that they opted to swap manager, with David Moyes, who won the club their first major trophy in 42 years when they lifted the Conference League, leaving. He was replaced by Lopetegui, who could be already fighting for his job. And, according to The Guardian, he has two matches to save it, with the Hammers already sounding out replacements. It is reported that those in senior positions at West Ham still have belief in the former Real Madrid boss, but that that belief is fading and he is facing the potential sack this month. The Premier League is back on Saturday following the latest international break - the final until March - and West Ham will face Newcastle on Monday night at St James' Park, live on Sky. It is reported that any final decision will unlikely be made based off that game, but a heavy defeat could force the decision makers' hands a game earlier than they may potentially plan to do. If he does survive that match in the north east, he will take his side back to the capital for a home match against title challengers Arsenal. That will be in front of home fans who are already losing their patience at the London Stadium, and two tough defeats, potentially finishing on November 30 against Arsenal, could be the end of his reign. It is reported that West Ham's biggest shareholder, David Sullivan, is reluctant to make mid-season firings, but concern is growing over current performances and talks are understood to have been held over a potential change. Who could be Lopetegui's replacement is unclear, but a number of talks have been held previously, with former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic said to have been of interest. Former Denmark man Kasper Hjulmand could also be monitored, while ex-Benfica manager Roger Schmidt and Stuttgart's Sebastian Hoeness could also be options.
