West Ham close on £25m Brazil teenager Luis Guilherme..by Simon Stone, Chief football news reporter.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/05/30/19/85525625-13477339-image-m-46_1717092664466.jpgWest Ham are closing in on the 30m euro (£25.5m) signing of 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras. Hammers director of football Tim Steidten has been in Brazil trying to bolster new manager Julen Lopetegui's squad. Despite rumours the attempt to sign Guilherme was in danger of being called off, sources have told BBC Sport it is now almost done. It would be West Ham's first signing since David Moyes was replaced by Lopetegui at the end of the season and Steidten took control of the club's transfer dealings. Guilherme made his Palmeiras debut as a 17-year-old in 2023 and played for the club in this season's Copa Libertadores group stage.

Ben Johnson still in contract talks..by Simon Stone, Chief football news reporter.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/5128/live/d82a6c50-227d-11ef-a248-13d66dddaaef.jpgWest Ham United defender Ben Johnson is still in talks with the club over extending his stay at London Stadium. The 24-year-old's contract is set to expire at the end of June. The former England Under-21 international has been linked to a number of clubs over the past few months, including Rangers and Leeds United. However, it seems the Scottish giants will struggle to meet Johnson's personal terms. In the meantime, talks will continue with the club he joined at the age of seven.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2f7f/live/95709000-0915-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpgWe asked you what West Ham's first priority should be this summer.
Here are some of your responses:
Terry: It would be great if we could have a productive transfer window with no late dramas. We nearly always leave our business to late. Julen needs all the players ready for pre season, hopefully exciting times for a change. Toby: We need to sign Morgan Gibbs-White regardless of if Paqueta leaves/gets banned. Jeff: Get rid of all the dead wood in the club and only buy players who will give their all for the club. Paul: One word - striker! But a very good one! No cheap compromises, world class and known for their class and ability! £60m plus. Chris: We need to start at home first, sort out contracts for the players we want to stay. We also need to keep Downes, a good player.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/7729/live/b60eb100-231b-11ef-a13a-0b8c563da930.jpgAaron Cresswell has signed a new one-year contract that will take him into an 11th season with West Ham United. The 34-year-old left-back, who joined from Ipswich in 2014, is the Hammers' longest-serving player. Cresswell told club media that he has "loved every minute" of his time with the club and added: "This year has been a bit of a change in role - I haven't played as much, but I've been in football a long time to understand that there is a bigger picture than just playing every week. "I'd like to think I've done that well when not playing, supporting the team and the lads. "Of course, I still want to play and I wouldn't have signed the contract if I didn't think I was fit enough and healthy enough to still do a good job for the team. I've been fortunate with injuries in my career and I've always tried to do the right things off the pitch, by eating and sleeping well, training hard every day and trying to keep the standards high."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/81f2/live/bd02ea00-232d-11ef-9aba-5921cc8c2e20.jpgWest Ham United have confirmed that long-serving centre-back Angelo Ogbonna will leave the club after his contract expires at the end of June. The 36-year-old defender will depart after nine years with the Hammers, making 249 appearances since joining from Juventus in July 2015. Ogbonna scored 13 goals for the club and made an appearance from the bench in the club's historic Europa Conference League final victory in 2023. Third-choice goalkeeper Joseph Anang will also be leaving the club on 30 June, having been in more than 30 first-team matchday squads during his time in east London without making an appearance. West Ham confirmed that they remain in talks with Ben Johnson and Divin Mubama regarding potential new contracts, while it was announced earlier on Wednesday that left-back Aaron Cresswell had signed a new one-year deal.

West Ham's new signing Luis Guilherme says he and the club could "have a beautiful journey ahead".ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/95e8/live/bae77b60-2980-11ef-87fa-0b5bc4da7c72.jpgThe 18-year-old said: "I am very happy to be signing with West Ham United, a club that trusted in my work. "Julen Lopetegui showed me his project and I believe I will learn a lot from him. The Premier League is the best league in the world. "Since I was 11, I had this dream, and now it is becoming a reality. "If things go well, we have a beautiful journey ahead." Technical director Tim Steidten added: "He is a very exciting young talent who we have followed for some time, and once we became aware that he was available, Julen and I were determined to bring him to London. "He is obviously still very young, but we have no doubt that he is ready to make an impact in the first team here." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/dd27/live/88d5ca70-273f-11ef-9605-5fba2ad0ff1c.jpg

West Ham are ahead of Aston Villa and Tottenham in the race to sign Roma's 26-year-old England striker Tammy Abraham. The Hammers have also offered English defender Ben Johnson, 24, an improved five-year contract. West Ham are interested in 27-year-old Max Kilman from Wolves, but the defender could cost in the region of £45m. The Hammers are also interested in Juventus' versatile 21-year-old Argentine forward Matias Soule.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2f7f/live/95709000-0915-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpgIf you could only buy one, sell one, and loan out one player at West Ham, who would you pick?
That was the question we asked you to answer, with the transfer window set to open on Friday.
Here are some of your thoughts:
Toby: Buy: Youssef En-Nesyri - we need a new number nine and he would be a brilliant signing. Sell: Ben Johnson - he is still young and could be worth some decent money. Loan: Emile Smith Rowe - getting a good left winger on loan would be perfect. Andy: Buy: Harry Maguire - our defensive record was poor last season. Sell: Konstantinos Mavropanos - again, our defensive record was poor last season. Loan: Maxwell Cornet - he needs game time to see if there is a player in there. Tom: Buy: Tammy Abraham. Sell: Danny Ings. I don't have a loan out, but for a loan in: Trevoh Chalobah. We have a great team but we have been mediocre over the past few seasons. The recruitment of a new manager was much needed and hopefully it will improve the team. Monty: Buy: Serhou Guirassy - a quality striker, which West Ham need. Sell: Nayef Aguerd - he is not good enough and I would take £30m for him. Loan: Divin Mubama - he needs more game time. Billy: Buy: Elijah Adebayo - he proved he can do it with Luton and it would allow Jarrod Bowen to go back out wide. Sell: Flynn Downes - I like him but, realistically, he won't get in our midfield and we can cash in on him with Southampton. Loan: George Earthy - he's had a promising start to his career but we have no Europe.

West Ham and Leicester City have met the representatives of 21-year-old Juventus forward Matias Soule in London. Spain winger Ferran Torres is wanted by West Ham United this summer, but the 24-year-old does not want to leave Barcelona. West Ham are also mulling over whether to push ahead with a move for English left-back Ryan Sessegnon, after the 24-year-old was released by Tottenham. West Ham are keen on signing Sunderland's 23-year-old English forward Jack Clarke this summer. Southampton have asked about re-signing Danny Ings from West Ham and are willing to pay up to £6m for the striker.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2f7f/live/95709000-0915-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpgWe asked for your thoughts on Luis Guilherme, West Ham's first signing under Julen Lopetegui, and whether it is a strong start to the summer transfer window for the Hammers.
Here are some of your views:
Alex: Yes he is young - but if he is good enough, he is old enough. It will work if we get enough new and young talent on board, get them playing together from the off, and also get a couple of more-experienced heads in to keep things calm. We need players who can come into the team and play now, not 'for the future' players. If we don't get it right, our future might be the Championship. Lee: He needs a strong start, if that happens the fans will love him same as Kudus. This young lad could be anything - we just need to see. Dave: I don’t know this young player. I'm not sure he will be at his best for this season, but young players are good. West Ham fans know we need to offload certain players and replace them with strong players at a good age. Hopefully the new manager knows the style he wants to play and gets some early business done to settle the squad. Steve: He is just what we need. He is a young player from Brazil - what could go wrong? Keith: Why buy another winger? What we need is a striker and at least two defenders. We need to sell all of the deadwood that we have at the club. I can think of at least five players who are not good enough to play for us in the Premier League.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/700/cpsprodpb/542e/live/aa58b580-2d62-11ef-bdc5-41d7421c2adf.jpgOne of the stranger quirks of the Premier League fixtures released on Tuesday is that West Ham United are not scheduled to play outside London in the top flight until 2 November. The Hammers' first 4 away matches are against neighbours Crystal Palace, Fulham, Brentford and Tottenham. It is not until their 10th scheduled fixture of the season, away at Nottingham Forest, that Julen Lopetegui's team will leave the capital for a Premier League match. West Ham have had early journeys to Europe in each of the past three seasons but they will not take part in a European competition in 2024-25, meaning the streak of London fixtures could only be broken if they are drawn away in the early rounds of the Carabao Cup. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/f28f/live/e3118780-2d5d-11ef-bdc5-41d7421c2adf.jpg

BBC Sport understands the Hammers are interested in the 27-year-old centre-back - but it is yet to progress beyond that. Wolves think West Ham will eventually push forward in their efforts to reunite Kilman with new boss Julen Lopetegui, who worked with the former England futsal international at Molineux. Wolves are not actively looking to sell the player, who signed a contract to 2028 less than 12 months ago. However, they are realistic enough to know if the proposed fee reaches the £45m being rumoured, it may force their hand. Kilman played every minute of all 38 Premier League games for Wolves last season. Arsenal's William Saliba was the only other outfield player to achieve that feat.

The 33-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Hammers and will officially join on 1 July on a free transfer at the end of his contract with Sheffield United. He made 30 Premier League appearances for the Blades last season. Foderingham will provide support and competition for West Ham's other two keepers, Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski. "It feels brilliant to be a Hammer," he told club media. "They're a fanbase that care deeply about their football club. It's a family club as well, and I find it's always better to play for a team where you have those supporters cheering you on week in, week out. "The club has gone from strength to strength and I think I'm joining at a very, very good time." Hammers technical director Tim Steidten added: "He's had an esteemed career to date, including playing at the very highest level in the Premier League last year for Sheffield United. "I'm sure that under the guidance of Xavi Valero, both Alphonse and Lukasz will benefit greatly from having another established keeper working alongside them on a daily basis."
