West Ham 1-0 Bournemouth: Hammers get lucky to advance into third round..by Michael Emons, BBC Sport journalisti.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/28/22/89035367-13789217-image-a-9_1724879739051.jpgWest Ham got lucky as they saw off fellow Premier League side Bournemouth to move into the third round of the Carabao Cup. If VAR had been in use at this stage of the competition, the Hammers' winning goal would surely have been disallowed after Mohammed Kudus' shot bounced off the arm of Jarrod Bowen and into the net. But West Ham will not be complaining and will just be relieved to have got through a tricky tie against an impressive Bournemouth. The visitors were the better side for large periods. Marcus Tavernier hit the post with an inswinging free-kick. He also forced a good save from Lukasz Fabianski, who also did well to keep out Ouattara's clever flick when the ball was behind him. Bowen had forced a good save from Cherries goalkeeper Neto, who had earlier easily dealt with a header from Niclas Fullkrug in the German striker's first start for the club following his summer move from Borussia Dortmund. But Neto could not stop West Ham scoring in the 88th minute as the match approached a penalty shootout with the Hammers now able to look forward to an away tie at Liverpool in the next phase. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/28/21/89034351-13789217-image-a-42_1724877546745.jpg

Nottingham Forest sign James Ward-Prowse and Benfica defender Morato..by Nick Mas**ter, BBC Sport football news reporteri.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/30/16/89110749-0-image-a-1_1725032295000.jpgNottingham Forest have completed deadline day deals for West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse and Benfica defender Morato. Ward-Prowse moves to the City Ground on loan for the season and there is no option or obligation to buy. The 29-year-old only joined the Hammers from Southampton for £30m last summer and made 51 appearances, scoring seven goals. But boss Julen Lopetegui, who replaced David Moyes in May, has decided to let the 11-cap England international leave. "I’m delighted to be here," said Ward-Prowse. "When I knew I had the opportunity to join the club and come and show what I can do, I thought it was a fantastic opportunity. "Having played Nottingham Forest a few times, the atmosphere here is one of the best I’ve played in in the Premier League, so to now hopefully experience that week in, week out is something really special."

Carlos Soler signs for West Ham Unied from PSG..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/31/00/89124001-0-image-a-1_1725061216550.jpgWest Ham have secured the signature of Paris St-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler on an initial loan. Soler, 27, moved to the French capital from Valencia in 2022 and is also a Spain international. His transfer to London is another acquisition for new Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui, who has already brought in the likes of Niclas Fullkrug and Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer. Soler expressed his delight at sealing a move to London and the Premier League with West Ham, commenting: "I am really excited to be here as a West Ham player. "It has always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League, and to be doing it in London with a club like West Ham is an incredible feeling. "I can’t wait to feel the support of the fans, who I have already heard so much about from conversations with people who know the club, like my good friend Pablo Fornals. "I am excited about meeting my new team-mates and giving my all for this club in the best league in the world.”

West Ham captain Zouma completes Saudi loan move..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/27/00/88958419-0-image-m-153_1724716391314.jpgWest Ham defender Kurt Zouma has completed a move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Orobah on loan. The 29-year-old captained the Hammers during the 2023-24 season, taking the armband after Declan Rice's departure to Arsenal. France defender Zouma has made 103 appearances after joining from Chelsea in a £29m deal in 2021. While the Premier League's transfer deadline day was on Friday, the Saudi Arabian window remains open until 7 September. Earlier this summer, Zouma agreed a move to Shabab Al-Ahli in the United Arab Emirates, but that transfer collapsed when he failed a medical. However, with a year left on his Hammers contract, the Londoners let him stay in the region to secure another deal and his exit has now been confirmed.

West Ham United 1-3 Manchester City - Hammers undone by Erling Haaland..by Gary Rose, BBC Sport journalisti.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/31/19/89141281-13800177-image-a-57_1725130628850.jpgTrying to take points off Manchester City is a difficult task for any side, let alone when they face them with Erling Haaland in the form he currently is. The Norway striker scored a hat-trick - his second in a row - as Pep Guardiola's side claimed a 3-1 victory at London Stadium. If not for his current deadly prowess in front of goal, however, West Ham may have got something from this game. They were a distant second best in the first half but were much improved after the break, particularly after Mohammed Kudos hit the woodwork. But they did not capitalise on their improved spell as their finishing proved poor, substitute Niclas Fullkrug summing it up in the closing stages when he stabbed wide from a promising position. The Hammers have taken three points from three games so far, but their defeats were against City and Aston Villa - who are likely to be up challenging the top four again this season.

I think we have played one very good second half. The start has been very good for us too, but against this kind of team if you make a mistake they don't forgive. This is the difference they have, one of the differences. A little mistake they punish you, they punish us. One bad moment for us. On Erling Haaland: "That’s right, they can score, make incredible actions showing one of the best players in the world. It was a pity because the team made a big effort. "He is one of the best players in the world, that's why he plays for Manchester City. You have to compete with these kind of players. City has the power and the quality to create chances. Today I think the first goal was a pity for us but I’ve said it. I was happy with the performance think we were able to draw but again they damage us."

Son in law went to this game, he described Man City as in " a different league " to WHU,( he is a WH fan) and I daresay a few others in the PL, but added that it was a pleasure to watch them all the same

Here are some of your comments:
West Ham fans
Jim: Don’t think West Ham were embarrassed. Put City under a lot of pressure at times that they really don’t like. Without Haaland, the game would’ve been much more equal score-wise and we’re still trying to bed in the new players and manager. There’s a lot more to come from this Hammers team. Gerald: Early days, however the performance was very much like David Moyes at the helm. I would prefer a team with an all-out attack mindset. City are an exceptional team so trying to beat them playing counter-attacking football does not work. Harry: I think we played all right in the second half. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is amazing, and for £15m is an absolute bargain. The new signings need time to gel and we need to take our chances more often but, apart from that, very good from the lads. Brian: A work in progress. We played the top side and gave it a go. Some new signings are settling in faster than others. By Christmas, we shall have a much better idea of a regular team. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/31/20/89141451-13800177-image-a-61_1725131575617.jpg

West Ham targeting two free-agent defenders..by Nizaar Kinsella, BBC Sport football news reporter

The Hammers have been linked with moves for Joel Matip and John Egan after they left Liverpool and Sheffield United respectively this summer. The club has just three centre-backs available after revamping the squad in the transfer market after Julen Lopetegui replaced David Moyes as manager. New signings Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo are the first-choice pairing, with just Konstantinos Mavropanos backing them up. Although the transfer window is closed, free agents can still be signed after the 30th August deadline. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2022/09/11/08/62290717-11201225-image-a-1_1662882674289.jpgWest Ham are interested in Sheffield United defender John Egan

In our poll, a whopping 77% of you said the Hammers will finish between sixth and 10th,
Here are some of the comments you sent our way:
Paul: Best squad in a very long time but they will need time to get the new system working. Feels like the team love the new system and will be better for more time together on the training ground and in match play. The mix of experience and youth is very good, it seems super Tim Steidten can really pull the strings now. It's a new beginning. Carl: A much more positive outlook both tactically and in the transfer market. We really have some good players now and once they have gelled together with the manager's ideas I think top six is not out of reach! Geoff: West Ham are going to struggle - too many new faces have to learn how they each work. New manager to make his mark but overall I feel West Ham are a long way from challenging for top half. Battling to avoid relegation - unless every player lifts their on-field performance. Chris: I think we’ll finish between 10th and 14th position wise. We signed a few good players but we’re still short of a forward with pace. We should be dipping into the out of contract players not only for a centre half but for a forward. Michael: Very mixed….Kilman looks a great signing and Summerville is promising. Can’t see the point of Rodriguez, no different from Alvarez and am not happy about Ward-Prowse leaving. That’s 10 goals a season let go. Fullkrug looks like a slower version of Danny Ings so Antonio will still be our main striker when he’s 46 probably. Rob: In just three Premier League games under Lopetegui we can already see a change for the better in terms of creative play, passing and ball retention. Given the quality in the new look squad I’m sure this will soon produce more goals for and less against! upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c2/West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg/175px-West_Ham_United_FC_logo.svg.png

Here are some of your comments:Matthew: Where do I begin? No effort; no desire; not tactically right; no formation; defence is shaky; losing tackles; not running back; passing is poor and way too slow for a rapid Chelsea team. Players that start are either out of form or too old and we have absolutely no end product. From what I’ve seen so far, sacking David Moyes seems to be a massive mistake. Bob: I thought that Moyes was removed because he wasn't attacking enough in his tactics. I saw nothing here that shows West Ham have the slightest idea tactically how to perform - except badly. We cannot keep going through games without understanding that to win you need to stop the goals against while striving to score yourself. Andy: Poorly set up. None of the new signings played at all well. We don’t look a team. Everyone going on about how good our window was are delusional. We needed a young quality striker. Very unimpressed with the new manager and our signings. Tom: MBBC= Moyes back before Christmas. Graham: An abject performance - no pressing to win back possession, no effort when in possession and no creativity. Only Mohammed Kudus emerged with any credit but that was for his solo efforts with no support. After all the money that's been spent, we should be seeing something more than this - it was more like watching a school team play. Joe: Bad performance where we let the occasion of a London derby get to us as a team. Even if we were given that penalty claim, we had no way back into the game after letting in more soft goals. Looks like we need "more time for the team to gel together" every week we play. Expectations for this season are getting lower for me the more I watch us play. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/21/15/89940453-13876223-West_Ham_manager-a-39_1726927639623.jpg

Liverpool 5-1 West Ham: Hammers suffer more Anfield pain..West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui, speaking to Sky Sports after his side were thrashed at Liverpool in the Carabao Cup: "We don't deserve this score because we did a lot of good things. We made a very good first half. They scored an offside goal [and] we suffered the first goal. "After we had 10 players, they scored more goals. The last 20 minutes, we didn't manage well. The players made a big effort. We were in the match until this moment despite the referee decision. "I'm sorry for our fans." On Edson Alvarez's red card: "Second yellow card - it can happen. He can't play the next game. I'm very proud of the players who played until 60 minutes." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/26/00/90107379-13892335-image-a-162_1727305492541.jpg

Here are some of your comments:
West Ham fansMark: Deserved losers, but like all our defeats this season, the scoreline flatters the opposition. It's nice we now have a manager who makes substitutions, but he keeps getting the team selection wrong. Michail Antonio should have started. James: Can’t help but feel hard done by. First goal looked like an offside in the buildup, second goal comes right after we should’ve had a penalty, third goal comes from a goal kick that should’ve been a corner to us. Fifth goal huge deflection. The scoreline did not reflect the game. Hoping some luck goes our way on Saturday. Richard: Another horror show. This is starting to get worrying. Going forward, at times it looks slick and promising but the midfield is just not working hard enough to protect the defence. Apart from Crysencio Summerville, the new additions are just not up to speed. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/25/22/90103623-13891981-image-a-73_1727298925107.jpg

Brentford 1 West Ham United 1 - Analysis: Soucek secures point for Hammers..by Bobbie Jackson, BBC Sport Journalisti.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/28/17/90218489-13901763-image-a-170_1727541498467.jpgJulen Lopetegui is yet to set the world alight since taking charge of West Ham over the summer, despite spending over £100m in transfer fees. West Ham have won just one of their six games in the league under the Spaniard but their performance against Brentford suggests improvements are being made. The Hammers fell behind inside a minute and then enjoyed the majority of possession and chances for the remainder of the first half. Lopetegui made two tactical changes at half-time, brining on Konstantinos Mavropanos and Carlos Soler for Mohammed Kudus and Emerson. West Ham looked much-better balanced in the second period and it took just under 10 minutes to get level. Tomas Soucek, brought in for the suspended Edson Alvarez, bundled the ball in from close range after some neat build-up play on the edge of the box. Clear cut chances were few and far between in what remained of the game, although West Ham looked the more likely to register as they pressed on for a second with momentum on their side. With no victory since seeing off Crystal Palace on 24th August, West Ham are desperate to get back to winning ways and they have a golden opportunity to achieve that when Ipswich visit London Stadium on Saturday. We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League draw between Brenford and West Ham.
Here are some of your comments:
West Ham fansSid: It’s confusing for sure. The increased possession is positive, the confusion over who should be doing what less so. I thought Kudus was one of our best players first half and the only attacking threat. So it was a strange substitution. We don’t look fit enough after 60 minutes. Antonio was done and others too. At least Todibo made a good start. Frank: I have no idea what this manager does in training but we might as well have started a fire and burned £130m. He looks clueless. Aaron Wan-Bissaka thinks he is a midfielder and does not know how to defend and the whole lot look a shambles. European football next year…no chance. Jonny: Not sure what our manager is doing to be honest. The substitutions are bizarre and we don't have any shape. I think he is trying to be too clever, Mavropanos at right-back? With Coufal on the bench? Soler on for Kudus? But, saying all that a point away from home in the Premier League is good. Just wish we had a settled side. Hopefully this will come in the weeks ahead. Ken: A terrible start but better performance particularly in the second half. We worked hard with little return. Much better than it has been recently, but we should be beating teams like Brentford after all the money that's been spent.

Match report by Michael Emons, BBC Sport journalist at London StadiumWest Ham gained their first home Premier League win of the season as they overpowered newly promoted Ipswich Town, who remain without a victory since their top-flight return. Goals from Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta gave the Hammers the three points and eased the pressure on manager Julen Lopetegui after an indifferent start since he replaced David Moyes as manager. Antonio swept home Bowen’s low cross after 48 seconds, but in a frantic start Liam Delap equalised with Alphonse Areola unable to keep out his 18-yard strike, despite getting a hand to the ball. Ipswich missed chances to move ahead and that, along with a number of defensive errors, proved costly. Dara O'Shea cleared Tomas Soucek's effort off the line after Ipswich lost possession inside their own penalty area, but the hosts restored their lead when Kudus reacted quickest to head in from close range after Antonio's header had bounced off the crossbar and down on to the goalline. But the hosts dominated after the break and Bowen, left out of England's squad for the Nations League matches against Greece and Finland, put the game beyond Ipswich with a fine low strike. The goal once more came from a defensive error from Ipswich. Ben Johnson's looped backpass asked a lot of goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, but he could not control the ball and lost possession with Bowen grabbing his second goal of the season shortly after. His second assist of the afternoon followed later on, with a square pass with the outside of his boot, with Paqueta tapping in unmarked from close range for West Ham's fourth on a miserable day for the visitors. West Ham fansJames: Signs of what Lopetegui is trying to implement came through today, especially the second half. Todibo has cemented his place as a starter next to Kilman now. Great to have Alvarez back, who was class. P CBM: That was entertaining and the reason Moyes was let go. AWB good, Kilman and Tobido looking more assured. Bowen and Kudus lively. Paqueta still not at his best and the midfield still not quite functioning smoothly. Walter: Ipswich were not as bad as this result suggests although the Hammers could/should have had three more goals! It’s clear Antonio is only good for an hour so we will have to accept this. I think Paqueta is a luxury we can’t always afford - losing possession and failed tricks always leave us open. I would rather have Ward-Prowse. Three points. Beat United and we are off! Ben: We needed a win, and we got that, along with a performance. Not perfect as they had a few decent chances they didn’t take, but four goals should help on the confidence front. Kudus and Paqueta scoring their first for the season also a plus.

Who could be described as 'irreplaceable' for West Ham ? - BBC Radio London's Xavier Bird offers his suggestions for West Ham:
Jarrod Bowen: It goes without saying. Superfan Danny Dyer sent a video message to Julen Lopetegui over the summer, requesting the new Hammers boss build the team around his son-in-law. Lopetegui has since made him captain.
Bowen scored 16 times in the Premier League last season, equalling the record set by Paolo di Canio in the 1999-2000 season. There is still a question mark over the fitness of Nicholas Fullkrug, while against Ipswich, Michail Antonio scored for the first time since the 2-2 draw against Liverpool in April.
For now, Bowen remains the main player West Ham turn to for goals.
Edson Alvarez: Alvarez had a very impressive first season with the Hammers, particularly considering he arrived under the daunting expectation of replacing Declan Rice.
The main issue last season for the Hammers was he was essentially their only holding midfielder. They have since brought in Guido Rodriguez, which has helped ease pressure on the Mexico man, but they still lack defensive solidity in midfield when Alvarez is absent - and that is a bit too often given he picks up too many yellow cards.
Alphonse Areola: Areola made a mistake against Chelsea for Nicolas Jackson’s first goal recently, something which really set the tone for the rest of the West Ham performance that afternoon.
For the most part though, he has been very solid between the sticks for the Hammers, and has ultimately staked his claim to a position which had for so long been nailed down by Lukasz Fabianksi.
The problem for West Ham is that Fabianski remains their number-two keeper. Should Areola pick up a significant injury, as Hammers fans feared he might have done when he came off at half time in the defeat to Manchester City, West Ham would be relying on a 39-year-old in one of their most important positions.
Lucas Paqueta: The Brazil playmaker has not been quite right so far this season. Whether a potential ban from football hanging over his head - should he be found guilty of breaching FA betting rules - that should not necessarily come as a huge surprise. His lack of cutting edge on the pitch so far this season has definitely affected West Ham though.
Paqueta is capable of creating something out of nothing, is by far the best passer in the team, and also (not that you would expect it) was a hugely important player in terms of winning the ball back when David Moyes was the manager.
Should there be a lengthy ban, which is something that has gone quiet for the moment, West Ham fans might have to readjust their start-of-season expectations for their side.

West Ham will price winger Mohammed Kudus out of a move away from the club next summer, despite interest from Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea. West Ham are interested in bringing former Leicester City and Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez back to the Premier League, in the hope that the 31-year-old Villarreal player can improve their attacking options.
