Match report by Emily Salley, BBC Sport journalistRicharlison scored from the penalty spot to help Tottenham maintain their perfect start in the Europa League with victory over AZ Alkmaar. In his first start for Spurs this season after injury trouble, the Brazilian briefly argued with James Maddison about who should take the penalty after Maxim Dekker had kicked out at Lucas Bergvall in the box. Captain Maddison relinquished the responsibility and Richarlison confidently sent the ball straight down the middle to hand Tottenham the decisive goal in the 53rd minute. "Initially we both wanted to take it," Maddison told TNT Sports. "I'm a senior player, I was captain today, I was going to take it, but I thought Richarlison has come back from an injury, it's difficult for a striker - a first goal gives confidence." Ange Postecoglou's side had struggled to break down AZ's defence until then and could not make the most of their few clear-cut first-half chances. Mikey Moore glanced a close-range header wide early on, while Timo Werner's problems in front of goal continued with two lacklustre efforts before he was replaced by Brennan Johnson for the second half. But Spurs were much improved after the interval, with exciting English teenager Moore playing a starring role at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Tottenham came under pressure in parts, with Fraser Forster at full stretch to stop a looping header from Alexandre Penetra. Former Spurs forward Troy Parrott, who moved to the Dutch side in July, had the chance to equalise with 15 minutes remaining but drilled his strike straight at Forster. AZ were forced to play the last five minutes with 10 men, though, as David Moller Wolfe received a second yellow card. Tottenham also had a late penalty appeal rejected when goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro appeared to bring down full-back Destiny Udogie. The result leaves Spurs on nine points from three games in the Europa League, although tougher tests lie in store with Galatasaray and Roma to follow in November. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, speaking to TNT Sports:i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/24/21/91257019-13998901-image-a-24_1729803504920.jpg"For the most part I thought we did OK, could probably add a couple more goals but overall, considering the context of all the changes, I thought we did OK." On his half-time change, replacing Timo Werner for Brennan Johnson: "Timo was getting in good areas but he is obviously low on confidence. "With Brennan on the bench I thought it was a good time to get him on and put Mikey [Moore] on the left, he's more comfortable out there." On Mikey Moore's performance: "Yeah it's exciting. Every challenge we throw to him he thrives on. He's a great kid, working hard every day, and its exciting for us and the football club." On James Maddison giving the penalty to Richarlison after a discussion: "As long as they score I couldn't care less. As long as they work that out." On their performances in Europe so far: "You can only face what is in front of you and that is what we have done so far. "Three wins is a decent start and we will be ready for the next challenge."

Here are some of your comments:Craig: With nine changes it was no surprise Tottenham looked disjointed. Blunt up front, with Richarlison and Timo Werner totally unconvincing. It was a win and a clean sheet, which cannot be dismissed, but a much better performance is needed if there are ambitions to actually win this trophy. Andrew: For a few seconds it looked like there was going to be an agenda over who takes the penalty. James Maddison made the right decision handing the ball to Richarlison. The captain made a decision that suited the whole team as well as the manager. That's what leadership is all about. JJ: Can see why Mikey Moore is so hyped at Spurs. Second half when he switched wings he was just gliding through players. Shame he missed the header in first half but definitely a star in the making. I'm glad Richarlison got on the scoresheet - thanks to Maddison showing class and giving him the penalty. The backline was not as shaky and Fraser Forster had a solid game. Jeremy: Overall excellent, particularly with all the changes made from the previous game . Well done to all the youngsters. Terry: The result was OK, but I don't think it was a very good performance by Spurs. A lot of youngsters in the team. There is nothing wrong with that but we just lacked a bit of sharpness and the passing was not as good as it should be. How you get Werner to score goals I don't know because he missed a sitter. Our defence didn't look very solid either. Andrew: Nine changes is too many, Ange - far too many. I'm all for our youth coming through but not all at the same time. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/24/21/91253935-13998901-image-a-1_1729800988735.jpg

Tottenham have placed an £80m price tag on 25-year-old Spain right-back Pedro Porro, who is being tracked by Manchester City. Sevilla are interested in signing Spurs' 18-year-old England Under-21 midfielder Archie Gray on loan. Borussia Dortmund's English winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, 20, is drawing interest from Arsenal, Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest. Though the German club want more than £50m for the player before they will consider selling. Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool have set their sights on Real Valladolid's Spanish winger Raul Moro, 21.

Tottenham Hotspur 2 Manchester City 1
We asked for your views on Wednesday's EFL Cup match between Tottenham and Manchester City.
Here are some of your comments:
Tottenham fansDoug: Great result, I’m chuffed for Werner getting a goal. He had a few other chances and he did better with them so I hope he continues to grow. Hopefully Van de Ven’s injury isn’t a serious one. And when Romero went off we had none of our main centre-backs on and still played well and got the result. Need to continue building as it's a tough game on Sunday at Villa. Stephen: I thought we played well and had several chances to put the game to bed in the second half. We defended very well and Bentancur and Bissouma were very good together. We must remember this was not Manchester City’s first team but it was ours. William: Today was like a Spurs win against Manchester City of old - defensively solid and dangerous on the counter attack. I love watching Ange’s fearless style of play, but today showed that sometimes taking a backward step can work and that against teams like City sometimes you have to adapt your style of play based upon the quality of the opposition.

Tottenham Hotspur 4 Aston Villa 1
We asked for your thoughts after Sunday's Premier League game between Tottenham and Aston Villa.
Here are some of your comments:
Tottenham fans:Paul: We have to stop conceding goals from set-pieces. Whether that means getting a new keeper who is bigger and has more presence in his own box or becoming more organised defensively, it has to be done. Again we conceded first and that is also a nasty habit we need to change. Sarr was superb, as was Bentancur - and Dragusin had his best game yet for us. Clare: We came out like a different team in the second half. Exciting, fighting for the ball and taking the game to Villa. This fast-paced, thrilling play is how most Spurs fans want them to play in every game. Not great to see Richarlison go down with what looked like some of kind of hamstring issue. Hoping it is not too serious. Kieran: Spare a thought for those not in the goals. Sarr put in a shift. Quietly went about his business and most of our good play started with him. Ben Davies had big shoes to fill and showed his experience well. First time I've been impressed by Dragusin too. It's a squad game and ours looks to be deep. Ref was abysmal. Neil: I almost prefer it when we go a goal down. We were on top throughout, but taking Sonny off at 1-1 was a big call. Ultimately, Ange got his subs right. Shame to see Romero go off, but he was starting to lunge at a few tackles so may have been a blessing, as going to 10 men would have been tough. Gutted for Richarlison, delighted for Dom and Madders.

Galatasaray 3 Tottenham Hotspur 2
We asked for your views on Tottenham's Europa League defeat against Galatasaray.
Here are some of your comments:Paul: I struggle to understand why Ange Postecoglou put a weakened team out to face one of the top sides in Europe and especially in Istanbul? If we are going to qualify and stand a chance of winning the competition then we have to have our strongest team out. I cannot understand why Dejan Kulusevski, Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancaur and Destiny Udogie were on the bench. Pure disbelief. Laurence: Some abject performances. Radu Dragusin shocking. Lucas Bergvall and Will Lankshear not ready for this level. Some terrible passing from many of the senior players. Jekyll and Hyde again. Richard: We could afford to lose and, while losing is never great, we gain some valuable experience for a young team at a difficult place to visit. Hopefully they’ll learn not to give the ball away so much. But on target to qualify, no complaints. In Ange we trust. COYS. Kb: Men against boys unfortunately. A good lesson for the youngsters, though I expected a bit more energy and fight from them. Again, a mix of tactical naivety and poor execution let us down. If they had been more compact to start, they could gone into final 20 minutes with hope as the opposition noticeably tired. The manager needs to learn! Dave: Tough fixture, but we were masters of our own downfall due to Ange's insistence on playing out from the back no matter what. We could not cope with their intense high press and lost possession constantly. Why not play a ball over the top sometimes with the pace we have and our new target man? We are a one-trick pony. Learn a lesson Ange.

Tottenham Hotspur 1 Ipswich Town 2
We asked for your thoughts after Sunday's Premier League game between Tottenham and Ipswich.
Here are some of your comments:
Tottenham fans
Dan: Useless. Stubborn. Naive. Useless performance by a bunch of millionaires. Stubborn Ange is still thinking his one-dimensional play will reap rewards, when it was found out weeks ago. Diversity in gameplay keeps the opposition on their toes. It is naive to think that it's OK to sub in the last quarter of the game when 2-0 down. Losing at home to Ipswich? Embarrassing. Silvia: To take the positives, I thought we played well and lost. We were poor in defence and we can't just give the ball away cheaply, but we did create chances and deserved a draw. Ipswich played very well and caused us problems. But we were our own worst enemy at times. Need to dust ourselves off and move forward. Roy: I’ve had enough. Enough of the dreadful performances against bottom sides, lame excuses, not enough energy, will or drive. Bad, bad defending. Embarrassing at set pieces. Cristian Romero looks like he’d rather be anywhere but on the pitch. The ridiculous apologies afterwards from players and manager. Ange has had a long time and it ain’t working.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/c043/live/ecb3f520-0913-11ef-82e8-cd354766a224.pngTottenham Hotspur are looking at the possibility of re-signing 28-year-old English midfielder Harry Winks, having only sold him to Leicester City last year. Tottenham are exploring a move for Brighton's 24-year-old Ghana right-back Tariq Lamptey in a bid to bolster Ange Postecoglou's defence in the January transfer window. Tottenham have made a huge amount of money available to sign a new central defender in the January transfer window. The club have also started the process of activating the clause to extend 32-year-old forward Son Heung-min's contract until June 2026. Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero has been identified by Real Madrid as a potential reinforcement. Tottenham are set to rebuff Real Madrid's renewed interest in defender Cristian Romero. Meanwhile, Spurs are keen on a move for Argentine midfielder Facundo Buonanotte, 19, but will have to compete with Leicester City, where he is currently on loan from Brighton. Real Madrid have 25-year-old Tottenham and Spain right-back Pedro Porro on their radar.

Rodrigo Bentancur banned for seven games over racial slur..by Mandeep Sanghera, BBC Sport journalisti.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11/18/11/92191017-14096033-image-a-17_1731927866392.jpgTottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been given a seven-match domestic ban by the Football Association for using a racial slur about team-mate Son Heung-min. Bentancur, who has also been fined £100,000 and ordered to take part in a mandatory face-to-face education programme, was charged by the FA in September after comments made while appearing on TV in his home country of Uruguay in June. "Rodrigo Bentancur denied this charge, but the independent regulatory commission found it to be proven and imposed his sanctions following a hearing," said an FA statement. The 27-year-old will not return to domestic action until 26th December, missing Premier League matches against Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, among others, plus Spurs' League Cup quarter-final against Manchester United. He will still be available for Tottenham's Europa League matches. Bentancur has played 15 times for Tottenham this season and scored his first goal of the campaign in a defeat by Ipswich on 11th November. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11/18/11/92099991-14096033-The_South_Korean_revealed_that_team_mate_Bentancur_was_close_to_-a-21_1731928177504.jpgSon revealed that team-mate Bentancur was close to tears when he apologisedWhen charging the Uruguay international the FA said it was "an alleged breach of FA rule E3 for misconduct in relation to a media interview". The FA said this constituted an "aggravated breach... as it included a reference, whether express or implied, to nationality and/or race and/or ethnic origin". In the media interview in question, asked by a presenter for a Tottenham shirt, Bentancur replied: "Sonny's? It could be Sonny's cousin too as they all look the same." He later apologised on social media and said his comments were a "very bad joke". Bentancur also said sorry to South Korea forward Son, who said he would "not mean to ever intentionally say something offensive". Bentancur's offence carried a punishment of a six to 12-match ban and, in its written reasons,, external the FA said the player "asked for the matter to be dealt with on the basis of written submissions only". A response to the charge sent by Tottenham on behalf of Bentancur said: "Rodrigo’s reply was sarcastic and a gentle rebuke for the journalist calling Sonny 'the Korean'". "Rodrigo does not believe that all Koreans 'look more or less the same'. The context of the exchange clearly shows Rodrigo is being sarcastic... Rodrigo was challenging the journalist in his description of his club team-mate." It was also submitted that Bentancur's apology for his comments was "not for what he said, but for the inadequate reporting on the interview which excluded" the presenter's reference to Son as "the Korean".
