Why would Postecoglou want to come to Spurs ?Ange Postecoglou is "an ambitious manager" who will see great potential at Spurs, believes European football expert Guillem Balague. The Celtic boss has experienced outstanding success in Scotland and looks favourite to be named as the new Tottenham boss. "This would be a step forward for him," Balague told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast. "Having won five of the six titles available to him over the past two years in Scotland, he will want to reproduce his success somewhere else. "At Spurs, he will have a bigger budget, better players and a higher wage budget." Tottenham have been without a permanent manager since March after Antonio Conte left and have seen some targets turn them down. Balague says Postecoglou will be realistic to his place in the initial pecking order. "He will know he was not at the top of the list," said Balague. "Others have been approached but for one reason or another it hasn't happened with anyone else." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/10E7F/production/_129974296_gettyimages-1493776181.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/178F6/production/_129620569_gettyimages-1397203166.jpgAnge Postecoglou celebrates last season's title success with wife Georgia and his two sons

Ange Postecoglou: Tottenham reach agreement with Celtic boss to become their new manager..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/C350/production/_130000005_gettyimages-1258437173.jpgCeltic boss Ange Postecoglou has agreed to become Tottenham's new manager on a two-year contract. The Australian, 57, has just finished his second season at Celtic, leading them to the Scottish title both years and the domestic treble this term. Spurs have been looking for a new manager since Antonio Conte's exit in March, with Cristian Stellini and then Ryan Mason taking interim charge. The final elements of the deal are being finalised before an announcement. Athens-born Postecoglou's only experience in Europe before joining Celtic in 2021 had been a spell in charge of Greek lower league side Panachaiki in 2008. He has won the Australian title with South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar, Japan's top flight with Yokohama F Marinos and also led the Australian national team to victory at the 2015 Asian Cup. Postecoglou takes over a Tottenham side who finished eighth in the Premier League and face a first season without European football since 2009-10. He becomes the London side's fourth permanent boss, after Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte, since the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino in 2019. Postecoglou has won five trophies from a possible six since arriving in Scotland in the summer of 2021, re-establishing Celtic as the dominant force in the country. He admitted he was seen as a "joke" when he took over, with Celtic having just finished 25 points behind Rangers. But he becomes one of only five managers - along with Jock Stein, Martin O'Neill, Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon - to secure a domestic clean sweep for Celtic. Postecoglou became a hugely popular figure with the Celtic fans, with his recruitment and attacking football catching the eye.

Trouble for any Celtic manager (or Rangers for that matter) they do all they can do in Scotland, win the treble or whatever but there is virtually no competition apart from their rivals and if the rivals happen to be poor at the time then there is no competition at all. The managers do all they can in Scotland but then can look lost in the PL. Although to be fair O’Neil and Rodgers both did well in England and were/are top level managers. Lennon brilliant in Scotland, awful in England, Gerrard similar. It will be interesting to see how Postecoglou does. He wasn’t even first choice for Celtic two years ago, Eddie H was but Celtic wouldn’t let him bring his own backroom team so it didn’t happen. But he has done well and in Scotland has been able to produce an exciting style of football, something Spurs fans will enjoy, if it works. I suspect he’ll get about two games before the fans get on his back if it doesn’t work immediately. But for once at least Spurs have gone for someone who plays the right style of football. Their last few managers, Mourinho, Nuno Espírito Santos and Conte were never going to play the football the fans wanted. But they were major winners in major leagues, something Postecoglou hasn’t done though he’s won in Australia and Scotland. Mmm, a big risk but not sure he can do much worse than Nuno Santos or Conte. Unless Spurs next season do a Chelsea this season. As ever in football, time will tell.

Harry Kane: Real Madrid want Tottenham striker to replace Karim Benzema..By Guillem Balague, Spanish football writer.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/916D/production/_129992273_gettyimages-1190253581.jpg Harry Kane has scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for SpursHarry Kane tops Real Madrid's wanted list as they look for a replacement for Karim Benzema. Kane, 29, has a year left on his Tottenham contract and is undecided on his future. Benzema's departure after 14 years at the club has left the Spanish giants needing a new striker. Napoli's Victor Osimhen, Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez, Chelsea's Kai Havertz and Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic are also on their list of targets. But 14-time European champions Real are huge admirers of England's record goalscorer Kane and are hopeful the exit of several of their high earners this summer can help their bid. Along with the departure of Benzema, Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz are also leaving Madrid this summer, boosting their transfer and wage budget by 77m euros (£66m). Real remain in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over England midfielder Jude Bellingham, with the former Birmingham City player keen to sign. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wants to keep Kane at his boyhood club, though, and is understood to be wanting in excess of £100m, a price tag Real would be reluctant to pay. Kane has scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for Spurs and is 47 goals shy of Alan Shearer's Premier League goalscoring record of 260. They have kept hold of him before, two summers ago when he tried to engineer a move to Manchester City. But with Spurs unable to deliver Champions League football next season and Kane yet to win a major trophy, the forward's future in north London remains unclear and Real will hope a desire for major trophies will attract him to a move to Spain. Tottenham are still without a manager as well, after a disappointing campaign ended with Ryan Mason as interim boss, but will open talks with Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou in the next few days. The Ballon d'Or-winning Benzema, 35, who joined the Spanish giants from Lyon in 2009, departs Real on a free transfer, having won five Champions Leagues and four La Liga titles with Madrid. ....................................................................................................................................................................... Fans CommentsIf he's leaving Tottenham he's doing so to maximise his chances of winning trophies. Why would he pick Man Utd over Real Madrid to achieve that? May be the prospect of being the record scorer in the Premier League would be a reason to stay. His record could last a long while, or be gone real quick, depending on how long Erling Haaland stays at Man City. he could leave for 2 years and come back and still get the PL record. More likely to run down his current contract. Kane's story is very much like Sheringham's, loyal to Spurs for too long, didn't win a thing, so moved clubs while still a force. In Teddy's case he won everything with Utd within 2 or 3 seasons. If Kane wants to win trophies he needs to move this or next season, otherwise he'll fall behind younger more potent strikers. If Kane wants to win trophies then he has to leave Tottenham. They are holding him back massively. Real Madrid would be a perfect place for him. A player of his calibre should have trophies by now. Won't get them staying at Spurs. A player like Kane deserves the chance to play for a big team and at the very least, in the Champions League. Levy should take the fee and run, because keeping Kane until the end of his contract won't of benefit to anyone A lot of comments saying "Go or you'll regret it" or similar. I'm sure if it was down to him he would go, and I wouldn't blame him. But everyone knows how Levy operates, and Kane still has a year left on his contract. Unless Madrid pay well over the odds he won't go anywhere, and we all have to watch another bitter transfer window because Levy cares more about 50k than the impact on the team. Madrid makes sense all round. He has the chance to win big trophies. Becomes a Galatico. Doesn't tarnish his legacy by joining a Premier League rival. And Real Madrid are foolish enough to pay £100m for a 29 years old with 1 year left on his contract. As a Spurs fan it would break my heart but he needs to leave and Real Madrid would be ideal. He'd win La Liga 2-3 times, guaranteed latter stages of Champions League and maybe a League Cup or 2..everything he deserves!

Harry Kane: Tottenham should 'cash in' on striker for rebuild, says Micah Richards..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/6663/production/_129711262_gettyimages-1488440937.jpgTottenham Hotspur should "cash in" on striker Harry Kane to give incoming boss Ange Postecoglou a chance to rebuild the squad, says Micah Richards. England captain Kane, 29, is Spurs' all-time top scorer with 280 goals - and has been their top scorer in each of the past nine seasons. His contract expires next season and he has been linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid. "They're too reliant on him," said ex-England defender Richards. Celtic boss Postecoglou has agreed to become the new Tottenham boss this summer, with the club's three-month search coming to an end after Antonio Conte's departure. They finished eighth this season and will not be in Europe for the first time since 2009-10. Asked what Postecoglou should do if Kane says he wants to leave, Richards told BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club: "He's got to let him go. He's got to get as much money as possible for him and allow Spurs to rebuild their team. "They're too reliant on Kane. Every time you see who scored for them, it's Kane, Kane, Kane. They need something more. "Sometimes it's frustrating to watch because he's so good at number 10 but you want him further forward at number nine to cause more trouble but he's having to do everything by himself at times. "I think it's time now. I'm sure Spurs fans would say 'you've given everything for us, let's get some money for him, just cash in now and start again'. "Give the new manager some money to work with and let Kane go and really show everyone how good he is in terms of going to that next level." If Kane stays at Spurs this summer, he could leave at the end of 2023-24 on a free transfer. "What would you rather do? Get £100m this season or let him go for free next year?" said ex-Manchester City defender Richards. Wolves defender Conor Coady, who was in England's World Cup squad with Kane, said: "I understand from his point of view [why he might want to go]. I don't know how Spurs would be happy letting Harry Kane go. "For the club to say even with a year to go we'll see you, we'll find a way without you... what way is that? "He's one of the best players in the world." Kane has been continually linked to Manchester United, but 14-time European champions Real Madrid have just entered the mix. Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema is leaving the club after 14 years and Kane tops their wanted list. The fact Kane has not won a trophy is often used at a criticism of him, but if he leaves for Spain, it could end his chances of becoming the Premier League's top scorer. He is on 213 Premier League goals, only behind Newcastle legend Alan Shearer's 260. "Especially with Benzema leaving, it's there for you," said Richards. "You can go to the most historic club in football, there's a space for you, you have to go. It's imperative for his career. "He wants to be the all-time top Premier League scorer. But if he went to Real and won the Champions League, it's incredible. To win La Liga, he goes to a different level."

Manchester United have ended their interest in signing England striker Harry Kane, 29, from Tottenham this summer as they feel the fee will be too high. Brentford's Spain goalkeeper David Raya, 27, has agreed personal terms over a move to Tottenham. I thought as a total neutral that Kane to manure was a good fit and both Clubs would benefit. Sounds like Levy has been greedy. How unlike him... With this move scuppered, and Real unlikely... not sure where Kane can go now. Could just run his contract down, leaving Danial Levy apoplectic. Odds (generally): Spurs 4/9 Real Madrid 9/4 Manu 8-1 Bayern, chelski, PSG, Newcastle all 25-1.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/916D/production/_129992273_gettyimages-1190253581.jpgTottenham's England striker Harry Kane, 29, is still hopeful of securing a move to Manchester United this summer. Tottenham have accelerated their search to find Hugo Lloris’ long-term successor by opening talks with Empoli over the signing of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. Spurs captain Lloris, 36, is approaching the final 12 months of his deal and revealed earlier this month his desire to seek a new challenge when in an interview with media in France he described his situation as “the end of an era”, having been at the club since 2012. Discussions took place with Brentford number one David Raya over a potential move across the capital, but the £40million price tag placed on the Spanish international has stalled the move. Tottenham have now shifted focus to Vicario and are confident of securing his services with talks under way with Empoli, the PA news agency understands. The 26-year-old has starred for the Serie A mid-table outfit during the last two seasons, saving eight penalties in that period, and has recently been involved in Italy national team squads to highlight his growing reputation. Reports suggest a bid in the region of 19million euros (£16.4m) will be enough to prize Vicario away from Empoli. i2-prod.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/incoming/article27044515.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-1494061768.jpg
