West Ham: Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou says West Ham's David Moyes is 'outstanding'..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16FD/production/_133058850_gettyimages-1540342670.jpg West Ham are aiming to secure their third Premier League double over Tottenham, having done so in the 1998-99 and 2013-14 seasonsTottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has defended West Ham boss David Moyes, calling him "one of the outstanding managers in the game". West Ham host Spurs on Tuesday with Moyes looking to do the double over Tottenham after West Ham won 2-1 in December. But Moyes has come under fire from some sections of the West Ham support, who have called for him to be sacked. "I think he's an outstanding manager. I rate him so highly," said Postecoglou. "He is one of the ones I have always rated highly. Longevity in the game means something, especially at this level." Moyes led the Hammers to their first major trophy in 43 years as they beat Fiorentina to win the Europa Conference League in Prague in June. "Whether it was at Everton or the difficult job he had at Man U, he went abroad and has never stopped coaching," Postecoglou added. "I think he has done a brilliant job at West Ham and anyone that thinks otherwise... the team they are today, the players they've got there, they have some high-quality footballers in that team and I think they're going to get better. "I guess it's a bit of today's world we live in where there is always a short-term reflex to everything that happens, but I've got no doubt he is one of the outstanding managers in the game." A 'Moyes Out' banner was on show in the away end as West Ham fell to a 2-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest in February, a result which followed a 6-0 home loss to Arsenal a week earlier. And some fans were angered when Moyes' side lost 4-3 at Newcastle on Saturday after leading 3-1. Moyes is out of contract at the end of this season and the Scot said in February he had been offered a new deal but would "wait until the end of the season" before deciding on it.

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy says club in talks with 'prospective investors'..By Bobbie Jackson, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/171DE/production/_133068649_gettyimages-1859586325.jpg Daniel Levy has been Tottenham's chairman since 2001Tottenham are in talks with "prospective investors" after reporting losses of £86.8m in their 2022-23 accounts, says chairman Daniel Levy. Total revenue increased by 24% from 2022 to a record-high £549.6m, with matchday income reaching a record £117.6m. But they reported a loss for the fourth successive year following the 2022 deficit of £50.1m. Levy stressed the need to "capitalise on our long-term potential". "To continue to invest in the teams and undertake future capital projects, the club requires a significant increase in its equity base," he said. "The board and its advisors, Rothschild & Co, are in discussions with prospective investors. Any recommended investment proposal would require the support of the club's shareholders." Under Premier League profit and sustainability (PSR) regulations, clubs can lose a maximum of £105m over a three-season period, or £35m per campaign, before facing sanctions. Tottenham's losses over the last three years are beyond that threshold at £220.7m, but the annual depreciation charge of £72m, which refers to their stadium and other facilities, means they are not at risk of breaching PSR regulations. Everton and Nottingham Forest have already been punished with points deductions this campaign for breaking PSR rules, while Championship side Leicester were charged last month by the Premier League for allegedly breaking spending rules during their last three seasons in the top flight. "The club remains fully compliant with the rules and is supportive of the enhancement of PSR to ensure the Premier League remains competitive and sustainable," Levy said. "We have operated on a financially sustainable basis and can now optimise the true value of key assets, the unrivalled facilities at our multi-use stadium and our training campus. "We expect commercial revenues to rise from third-party events, although this will not compensate for the lack of European football this season." After finishing fourth in 2021-22, Tottenham returned to the Champions League last season - reaching the last 16 - bringing in £56.2m in Uefa prize money, compared to £10.2m in the previous year's accounts when they suffered a group-stage exit from the Europa Conference League. They finished eighth in the Premier League in 2022-23 and are not involved in European football this term. Tottenham's accounts for 2022-23 showed operating expenses had risen by 21% from £403.4m to £487.9m, due to increased first-team costs and the hosting of multiple non-football events, such as NFL fixtures, boxing and music concerts. A "significant and continued investment in the playing squad" saw the wage bill rise by 20% to £251m. Levy also had a pay increase from £3.2m to £3.5m, while taking home a £3m bonus. In March, Tottenham announced season ticket prices would increase by 6% for the 2024-25 season, with the most affordable adult season ticket costing £856, up from £807 this season. They are also removing the concession for new senior season ticket holders - those aged 65 and above - from 2025-26. The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust said the decision was "unacceptable" and "cannot be justified". Tottenham said the increase in season ticket prices is because they have only raised prices once in the past five years - by 1.5% - and there had been a "significant increase in matchday costs". The accounts do not mention how much it cost to dismiss manager Antonio Conte, who was relieved of his duties at the club in March 2023, with Ange Postecoglou appointed his permanent successor on 6th June after interim spells from Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason. Spurs also saw talisman Harry Kane sold to Bayern Munich for 100m euros (£86.4m) in August, but that deal fell outside of the financial window and will be included in the 2023-24 accounts. Likewise, the outlay for new additions Micky van de Ven and Brennan Johnson will feature in next year's accounts.

Joe Lewis: Tottenham Hotspur owner charged over alleged insider trading..By Brandon Drenon, BBC News, Washington DC.ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/B96F/production/_130517474_gettyimages-594794362.jpgTottenham Hotspur owner Joe Lewis has been charged with "orchestrating a brazen insider trader scheme", US attorney Damian Williams has said. Mr Williams used a video announcement to accuse the British billionaire of using inside information to "shower gifts on his friends and lovers". Mr Lewis "has been indicted and will face justice" in the Southern District of New York (SDNY), Mr Williams said. BBC News has approached Tottenham Hotspur and Mr Lewis for comment. In the video statement, posted on Twitter, Mr Williams set out a series of allegations against Mr Lewis. A formal written statement, known as an indictment, has yet to be released. "We allege that, for years, Joe Lewis abused his access to corporate board rooms and repeatedly provided inside information to his romantic partners, his personal assistants, his private pilots, and his friends," Mr Williams said in the video. Mr Williams, the chief federal law enforcement officer for the SDNY, alleged that Mr Lewis's acquaintances used that information to make millions of dollars in the stock market. "Thanks to [Mr] Lewis, those bets were a sure thing," he claimed. Mr Lewis owns hundreds of assets, including Premier League London club Spurs and a stake in UK pub chain Mitchells & Butlers. Forbes magazine has recently estimated his fortune at £4.73bn ($6.1bn). ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/7/26/57c86c4f-195f-4618-8453-9208fbd29778.jpg Update: Billionaire Joe Lewis, whose family trust owns Tottenham Hotspur football club, was fined $5m (£4m) Thursday, but will avoid prison after pleading guilty to insider trading. This is the story of how his plan to enrich his lovers, friends, and employees unravelled. The pilot had just touched down in Orlando when he texted a friend with a hot tip: "Boss is helping us out." The "boss" he was referring to was British tycoon Joe Lewis, and the helping hand was a loan of half a million dollars. And it came with juicy stock advice: buy shares in a pharmaceutical company that was about to announce positive results for a new cancer drug. Two weeks later, the pilot texted again, noting "the Boss has inside info" and "knows the outcome". He was right - the company's stock price jumped more than 16%. The pilot cashed out and repaid the "Boss". But there was one big hitch. The whole scheme was illegal. One of Britain's richest men, the 87-year-old Lewis pleaded guilty to insider trading as part of an agreement with prosecutors in January. At a hearing in Manhattan on Thursday, he was fined $5m (£4m) and sentenced to three years of probation, avoiding jail time. Lewis arrived in court wearing an eye patch.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/f4b0/live/7ba4da50-f362-11ee-b991-696f0f9412cf.jpgAnge Postecoglou says Tottenham are "not one of the clubs who are going to be as restricted as others" when it comes to spending in the summer transfer window. Spurs announced their 2022-23 financial results, external this week, which showed total revenue had increased to £549.6m - up from £444m for the previous year. Chairman Daniel Levy also confirmed the club are "in discussions with prospective investors" over a minority stake, and the loss of £86.8m was put down to "significant and continued investment in the playing squad". "My discussions around those kinds of issues are not the minutiae of a balance sheet," Postecoglou said in his news conference before Sunday's visit of Nottingham Forest. "It is about us planning to build a side that can potentially be successful. So, that's what we're doing and nothing that is going to come out in the balance sheet is going to disrupt those plans because those plans are done in alliance with the people who make the balance sheets. "It is not like: 'Oh, we are going to wait for the financial results before we start thinking about who we're going to sign.' All this stuff is already in planning. "We kind of know what position we're in and what we need to do in the summer. That doesn't mean it's all going to come to fruition, of course, because there are all sorts of other factors that come into it. "We are not one of the clubs who are going to be as restricted as others. I've had a clear line of communication about where we are as a football club. "We're in a good position and hopefully we can build on that."

Here are some of your responses:
Tottenham fans
Ray: Yet another goal conceded from a set-piece, although it was lucky because it came off Zouma's back. Vicario saved us from a defeat with some super stops. West Ham are a bit of a bogey team for us so this is a point gained rather than two lost. Still confident we can overhaul Villa. Richarlison should start the next game. Andy: It's clear what Ange is building here at Spurs. The signs are there but the project needs to shift to the next stage before we'll see us killing teams off effectively and unlocking tight defences. Another player or two like Maddison are desperately needed. Overall, though, a solid performance against a stout defensive side. Paul: Werner did nothing after the first 10 minutes. Didn’t understand Ange's substitutions in taking Bentancur and Madders off. Another missed opportunity. Edgar: Too much passing back and a very negative attitude going forward. Players were often very greedy in wanting to score themselves when a simple pass would make a shot more certain. However, you cannot score if you don't go forward. Some 60% possession may sound good but if it's in your own half of the pitch you won't score goals. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b4/Tottenham_Hotspur.svg/120px-Tottenham_Hotspur.svg.png

Sunday 7th April 2024 - Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur 3 (Santiago Costa dos Santos 15 og, Van de ven 52, Porro 58) Nottingham Forest 1 (Wood 27)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/13C5D/production/_133098908_gettyimages-2139229706.jpg Tottenham signed defender Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg for an initial 40m euros (£34m) last summer
Report By Joe Rindl, BBC Sport.Tottenham returned to the Premier League's top four for the first time since February by beating Nottingham Forest. The hosts opened the scoring inside 15 minutes when Forest defender Murillo diverted Timo Werner's cross into his own net. Forest levelled 12 minutes later through Chris Wood, who finished off Anthony Elanga's cross. But centre-back Micky van de Ven restored Tottenham's lead in the 52nd minute with a thunderous shot from the edge of the penalty area that found the top corner. And six minutes later, Pedro Porro netted a third for Spurs, hammering in James Maddison's pass across goal. Victory meant Tottenham moved above Aston Villa on goal difference, having played one game fewer. Nottingham Forest stayed 17th, only outside of the drop zone thanks to their superior goal difference over Luton. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/175DB/production/_131670759_gettyimages-1778786537.jpg Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to BBC Sport following the win: "It had a bit of everything. We got off to a decent start. We imposed ourselves on the game. "We lost our way a little bit, but the whole second half we were very dominant." On deciding to make the double change at half-time: "Just some energy and legs. Three games in a week, they had given all they could, so we got some legs in there. Pierre [Emile Hojbjerg] and Rodrigo [Bentancur] were outstanding." On the goals: "I love defenders scoring. We were pushing them into those areas." On Micky van de Ven: "Just his sheer desire to be the best he can be. He has got so many great qualities. People talk about his speed, but he is strong and he is getting better and better on the ball." On being fourth in the Premier League: "That is all we want to do, and keep going. Everyone has been banging on about us getting fourth. We are fourth now, but it doesn't stop. We will keep going. "We are in a good shape to finish the season strong."

James Maddison should have been sent off for punch, says Nuno Espirito Santo..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/BF5D/production/_133098984_gettyimages-2146426063.jpg The video assistant referee did not advise referee Simon Hooper to look at the pitchside monitorNottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo said James Maddison should have been sent off for "punching Ryan Yates in the stomach" during Sunday's 3-1 defeat at Tottenham. Maddison caught Yates just before half-time with the score level at 1-1. Referee Simon Hooper spoke to both Maddison and Yates but did not card either player, with the video assistant referee (VAR) not intervening. "It's a red card," Nuno told BBC Match of the Day. "I was surprised VAR didn't [send Maddison off]. Maddison lost composure and punched Yates in the stomach. "What they saw clearly is not the same as we saw. I wouldn't speak if I wasn't 100% sure." Forest midfielder Yates added to Sky Sports: "James Maddison is a good player, I know he makes them tick. It's my job to disrupt the momentum. "A few decisions probably didn't go our way but we've seen the inconsistency in the Premier League this season." Victory meant Tottenham went fourth, above Aston Villa on goal difference, having played one game fewer. Nottingham Forest stayed 17th, only outside of the drop zone thanks to their superior goal difference over Luton.

Here are some of your responses:
Spurs fans
Paul: Not one of our most fluent performances as we gave Forest far too many chances, but the result is the most important thing at this stage of the season. Maddison was a little fortunate that the VAR didn’t get him sent off - he is too important for us to have him miss a few games. Great for Van de Ven and Porro, who have been superb all season. Martin: Great opening 15 minutes but the Forest equaliser generated and exposed a mental fragility, especially in midfield. We needed half-time to resume the usual improved intensity of the second half. Only Van de Ven was excellent. Son a rare disappointment. Jonesy: Our league position conceals the true level of our general play. We make so many misplaced passes all over the pitch and turn over possession repeatedly. Play like that against at top team and we’re going to get severely punished. I agree with the coach, top four or not is irrelevant - we need to improve the level of our performance throughout the 90. Rog: Important win but flattering scoreline. Hate to say it but Son playing as centre-forward is a liability. Loses possession too easily and lets us get turned over. Also takes away his goal and assist threat. Werner and Johnson can create but don’t look like scoring. Desperately need a centre-forward who can hold up and finish if we are going to complete at the top. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/f4a0/live/82e67870-f513-11ee-8bae-e57ad2953ece.jpg

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2709/live/e1dcfe50-f7d7-11ee-a9f7-4d961743aa47.pngHere are the key facts and figures before Saturday's game between Newcastle and Tottenham in the Premier League.Newcastle won this fixture 6-1 last season, last winning consecutive home league games against Spurs between April 2006 and December 2008 (a run of four). Tottenham have scored at least once in each of their last 17 Premier League away games against Newcastle, since a 4-0 loss in December 2003. It is their longest scoring streak away against an opponent in their league history. Along with opponents Tottenham, Newcastle are one of just two teams to have scored in 100% of their Premier League home games this season. Their current run of scoring in 16 consecutive Premier League home games is their longest since between September 2002 and August 2003 when they had a run of 18. Having won four of their first six Premier League away games this season (D2), Tottenham have won just two of their subsequent nine on the road (D4 L3). Alexander Isak has scored in each of his last five Premier League home games, netting six goals in total in this run. The last Newcastle player to score in more consecutive games at St James’ Park was Alan Shearer, who scored in each of his first 15 at home for the club in the 1996-97 campaign. Son Heung-Min has been involved in 24 goals in his last 25 Premier League appearances, scoring 15 and assisting nine. One more assist would see him become just the sixth player to register double figures for both goals and assists in three separate Premier League campaigns (also 2019-20 and 2020-21), after Wayne Rooney (5), Mohamed Salah (4), Frank Lampard (4), Eric Cantona (4) and Didier Drogba (3).

Tottenham are monitoring Athletic Bilbao's 21-year-old Spain forward Nico Williams, who has a £42.8m release clause in his contract. Bayer Leverkusen have joined Liverpool and Tottenham in the race to sign Leeds United's Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville, 22. Ange Postecoglou has made a centre-back one of his transfer priorities, with 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen and Ecuador international Piero Hincapie on his shortlist. Spurs are interested in Union Saint-Gilloise & Algeria striker Mohamed Amoura, West Ham United and Wolves are interested too in the 23-year-old.

Here are some of your answers:
Spurs fans
Bryan: Another awful away performance with some quite atrocious defending. Do we actually employ any defence coaches? And, yet again, Postecoglou is shown to have no plan B and is seemingly incapable of adapting his tactics to curtail the opposition. He's starting to divide Spurs fans. Personally I think he's out of his depth. Paul: Wow! Another shocking defeat, but an even worse performance overall. We lost every 50/50 challenge and the defenders were in a constant state of panic. For the first time since he took over I was disappointed in Ange’s leadership and tactics. We should buy Isak as soon as possible as we need a quality striker who leads the line and carries a goal threat. Joseph: Watching Spurs is like Groundhog Day. Every match is the same. Constant sideways and backwards passes with no creativity or penetration to break down the opposition. And shocking defending, especially at set-pieces. You can guarantee they'll let in a goal from a corner, leaving someone a free header. Ange's honeymoon period is over. Sort it out! ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/4134/live/d3e1a330-f9b9-11ee-afff-29a6b716259a.jpg

Newcastle 4-0 Tottenham: What Ange Postecoglou said:
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2475/production/_133133390_gettyimages-2046412857.jpg
Ange Postecoglou speaking to BBC Match of the Day after Tottenham's defeat to Newcastle: "It's a tough one, a bit raw at the moment. Credit to newcastle, I thought they were really good today. We never really got to grips with the game and weren't able to execute any of the stuff we usually do. Credit to them but just have to take them." On whether Newcastle's two quick goals made the difference: "I thought even before that we lacked a little bit of conviction today throughout a lot of things. They can hurt you particularly in transition and they did that today." On whether he thought his triple-substitution worked: "They tried hard, it's difficult because to be fair we didn't have anyone playing near the levels. Tried hard enough." On needing to bounce back: "You've got no choice. You can't sit there and feel sorry for yourself, it's not the nature of what we do. There's some lessons in there, we've got to take them and look ahead."

Spurs are also interested in signing 21-year-old Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna in the summer. Meanwhile, Bryan Gil could seek a departure from Tottenham. The club would be willing to let the winger leave on a permanent transfer.

However, Spurs will listen to offers for 23-year-old Spain winger Bryan Gil in the summer. Finally, the club are considering a move for Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukraine midfielder Giorgi Sudakov, 21. Tottenham are interested in former Arsenal forward Serge Gnabry, with Bayern Munich willing to sell the 28-year-old Germany international. The Italy full-back has played 30 times for Ange Postecoglou's side in his first season at Tottenham after moving from Udinese. Udogie, 21, revealed on Instagram he has had surgery on an injury without revealing any more details. "An injury brings my season to an early end," Udogie wrote. "It doesn't take away from how grateful I am to every person that has supported me this year." Tottenham are three points below fourth-placed Aston Villa in the battle for a Champions League spot - but have a game in hand.

Spurs are also well-placed to sign 24-year-old England midfielder Conor Gallagher from Chelsea this summer, despite interest from Newcastle United. Meanwhile, Tottenham could offer Genoa the chance to sign on-loan English defender Djed Spence permanently, in exchange for the Italian side's 26-year-old Iceland striker Albert Gudmundsson. Dutch club Feyenoord are interested in Tottenham's 23-year-old Spanish winger Bryan Gil, who is expected to leave Spurs in the summer.

Report By Phil McNulty, Chief football writer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.Arsenal overcame the hurdle of a north London derby and an anxious finale to maintain momentum in the Premier League title pursuit with a vital victory at Tottenham. Mikel Arteta's side moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League, although second-placed Manchester City later reduced that deficit to one point with a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest and also have a game in hand. The Gunners' meeting with their bitter rivals was seen as arguably the most treacherous of their remaining fixtures, but they took ruthless advantage of Spurs' defensive flaws to establish a three-goal lead by half-time. Arsenal were then thrown off course when a dreadful clearance by goalkeeper David Raya presented Cristian Romero with a goal after 64 minutes, the nerves really jangling when Heung-min Son scored from the spot three minutes from the end of normal time after Declan Rice fouled Ben Davies. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2bdf/live/514de7d0-0599-11ef-a3dc-278e82663d7c.jpgTottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to Sky Sports following the defeat: "We allowed them way too easy access to our goal in the first half. It is not acceptable at this level and we paid the price. "We couldn't come out here in the second half and not give our supporters a little bit of hope, but it is still very disappointing. "We are still not as resilient as we can be, especially in the transition moments or set pieces. We allow them far too easy access to our goal. "They are a good side and they will punish you if you do not show that steel protecting your goal. "There are a lot of areas of concern, so if you try to fix one thing - that is not where we're at - we have to fix a lot of things. "Today was not great, we need to get punished and then we are a lot better in the second half. Sometimes you have to feel the pain to realise you have to do things differently next time."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/93b0/live/c1a3fa10-fcc5-11ee-a9f7-4d961743aa47.jpgWe asked for your views on Sunday's match between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
Here are some of your answers:
Spurs fans
Dave: We just can’t keep gifting teams goals from corners. Aside from that, I thought Spurs were the better team and were unlucky with some of the decisions. Arsenal are better than us at the moment and I'm always one to give credit where it's due, but I thought we put in a good shift and gave them a good game. It shows that we're not that far away. Gareth: The scoreline flattered us. This Spurs team and Postecoglou's tactics (or lack of them) are an embarrassment. We cannot defend, cannot create chances, don't have a recognised goal scorer and follow the same woeful script week in week out. Somehow we are hoping that the outcome will be different. Postecoglou may still have his supporters, but I'm not one of them. Cliff: Typical Spurs. We were useless in the first half, got better in the second half, but failed to win against an excellent Arsenal side. We deserved nothing and got nothing - that is why we win nothing. Nothing will change under overrated Ange. Pat: Is there any actual coaching or management taking place at Spurs? Week after week we get the same tactics, the same failings and the same missed opportunities. The defending is atrocious, the midfield ineffective and the strikers non-existent. What on earth is Postecoglou doing to prepare this team for their matches? ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/1a26/live/d4b26e70-05f3-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpg
