Newcastle United are intensifying their scouting of RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, as they look to beat Manchester United to the signing of the 20-year-old Slovenia striker. Tottenham for Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, with Spurs having made an offer for the 26-year-old.

England winger Jadon Sancho, 24, would be open to restarting his Manchester United career and returning to the club if manager Erik ten Hag leaves. United want to sell Brazil winger Antony, 24, this summer. Manchester United will open talks with 18-year-old England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo over a new contract this summer.

Alejandro Garnacho: Erik Ten Hag says winger has apologised for liking critical social media posts..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/12BE1/production/_133196767_gettyimages-2148578904.jpgManchester United's Alejandro Garnacho has apologised to Erik ten Hag for liking social media posts critical of his substitution against Bournemouth. The winger, 19, was removed at half-time during the 2-2 draw on 13th April. He has since unliked the posts and manager Ten Hag said that they are moving on from the incident. "Alejandro is a young player, he has to learn a lot," said Ten Hag. "He apologised for it and after that we move on." United, who have not won in four Premier League matches, face Coventry in an FA Cup semi-final on Sunday. On social media they criticised Ten Hag's handling of Garnacho, one said that he "had a poor 1st half, but taking him off at half-time and holding him up as the problem is a joke".

We had total control for so long and then gave it away in the last part of the game. We did show resilience to win the penalty shootout. "We had control for 75 minutes and have to give Coventry a compliment for what they did in the last 15 minutes. "We have to improve. We talk a lot about this. First you have to put yourself in a winning position but then you have to take it over the line. In these moments we are making mistakes and not keeping our responsibilities." On whether there is a problem with mentality: "We can't say this group doesn't have the right mentality because they showed character today, but in the final part there was a lack of discipline. "We have to keep the ball, keep making passes, go for goal and then also be strong in defence. It's about communication and we have to improve on this." On what he said before penalties: "It was about mentality in that moment. You have a plan and have full confidence so I told them to stick to the plan. "I had confidence we would win the shootout. Normally Casemiro scores, we train them very well." On the feeling in the group after the game: "It's mixed feelings. We can be happy with the achievement, getting to the final, that's huge. "Even the big Manchester United only achieved it three times and we achieved it twice in two years. We need to win that final though. When we 100% in it then we can do it. On whether they need to win the FA Cup for it to be a successful season: "I want to win it. I'm sure we have a good chance to win this final, although we play the best team in the world. "We do have a chance though. We showed that this season. "This season has had many ups but also many downs. Winning the FA Cup doesn't make it successful, we want to win more. "We have been in three finals in two years, which is good, but we had a lot of setbacks this season. "We've had a lot of injuries and hopefully those players can be back for the final. If we go with a squad who believe then we have a chance to win a trophy." Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, speaking to BBC Sport: "It's mixed feelings. The way we did it isn't OK. "We should have managed it better but it's a huge performance. If you analyse the game we controlled 75 minutes but then allowed them to return into the game. "I have to give a compliment to the opponent. They believed but we allowed them. We should managed it better. "I don't think heads dropped but we had many setbacks and maybe it's human but it's not acceptable. "We have to show resilience. By the end we did show resilience and determination to win the shootout. When you are so in control you should win easy." On his mindset: "I am always calm, I focus and know my players can shoot penalties. I'm always confident Andre [Onana] will catch minimum one. "I was quite convinced but when the first is a mis-hit then you never know." On facing Man City in the final: "We have to face the best team in the world but we showed last season that if we execute our plan over 90 minutes we have a chance to win. "It's not going to be easy but we have an opportunity and we have to go for it."

"We started the game really well and then conceded a sloppy goal. We were unfortunate to concede the second goal. "I think the penalty was so hard but all credit to Coventry. They made it tough for us in the second half of extra time. "It sums up our season, we had great control and played well for 60 minutes but then we conceded out of nothing. "Then I don't know, it seems like the world wanted Coventry to go on and do it. We showed great character to stick with it and it was important to win the shootout." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/21/8478820e-9b9b-491b-a836-2b1d4653e244.jpgManchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, speaking to ITV1: "When they scored a goal [in extra time] we thought it might be offside, we couldn't tell from the front. "We put ourselves in a difficult position and should have killed it earlier but we didn't. We have to do so much better." On whether winning the FA Cup will make this a successful season: "We'll never be successful if we win [only] the FA Cup. "The standard of this club is much higher than what we have been doing. We have to do better in the league, the League Cup and in Europe." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/e076/live/f1491c50-000d-11ef-8a39-99017117d2c2.jpgManchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana to BBC Sport: "It's a mixed feeling. We went through, that's why we came here. "It was a tough game at the end. We were in control. After so many individual mistakes we conceded three goals. The most important thing is to win. We have to look forward to the coming games. "Somehow we lost control of the game. "We are Man Utd. We must win. We feel good, we feel happy to be in a final. We'll come back here to win. "The most important thing is the victory. We're in the final, that's what matters." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/21/c4a88aa0-7cbc-4d67-af69-d35a8b3b243d.pngCoventry City boss Mark Robins to ITV: "We conceded too many poor goals. We knew we had to make changes which we did at half-time. We spoke about not having regrets. We started to look more of a threat. "To come back from 3-0 down is incredible. Some good quality football. We were really disappointed at the end. "We hit the bar and had a goal disallowed. It was a really difficult game. We lose Tavares to injury and had to make another change. "If you can attack them you can really hurt them. I can't be prouder of them. They did fantastically well. I think we've made Coventry proud. "You get to penalties and it's a lottery. You don't hold anything against anyone if they show the courage to take one in a cauldron." On the offside goal: "It's a toe nail. Those lines are the bane of our life. You don't get a chance often to go to an FA Cup final and we were really really close. "We have to pick ourselves up because there's a game on Wednesday. "There's always a bit of gamesmanship [in penalties]. We needed to score the five goals. We scored the five in the summer and missed the sixth and Luton went up. It feels like a kick in the teeth. "I'm really proud of them. "We've just said to them they've put themselves right up there in the history of the football club. People will talk about this game for a long time." Coventry boss Mark Robins to BBC Sport: "Bitterly disappointed, I'm proud as well. Someone said to me I don't think any team have been as close to a final without getting there. We deserved to go through, we were 20 seconds away and a toenail offside, it's ridiculous. "We wanted to stay in the game in the first half. The second goal on the stroke of half-time was disappointing. We were ready to make changes before the third. "You try not to let the game get away from you. We thought it might be a consolation and then the second loops in and it gives us a lifeline. Your tails are up then. Haji sticks a penalty away and all to play for. "They hit the bar, we hit the bar. Another goal with 20 seconds to go. It took an age. The fourth official said there was nothing wrong with it [initially]. A toenail offside. "Disappointed but we have to be really proud. Once the dust settles a lot of people will talk about that game for a long time. "We needed to try to get a bit of control and quality. We didn't have that. We kept giving the ball away so we couldn't build any momentum. "It looked a little bit more like us and that's why I'm proud of them. They were incredible for the last hour." On the disallowed goal: "The mentality changes because you've almost won it and then you haven't. It puts you on the backfoot going into the penalty shootout. Thirty seconds later you're in a shootout. "I don't blame anyone for missing. It is what it is. We'll have to get better at them [penalties]."

Here are some of your answers:
Manchester United fans
Andrew: Erik ten Hag did nothing wrong. Tactically we got three up and then rested players. Two experienced internationals came on for two teenagers to see out the game. Players are clearly the problem. Rashford, Eriksen, Wan-Bissaka and McTominay were anonymous. Casemiro looks like his legs have gone. He could not make any subs in defence and kids dominated bench. Squad overhaul needed. Kushal: I have never seen a United team that wilts under the slightest hint of pressure like this one. Even a three-goal lead is not enough. Opponents know that once they get one goal they can get two, three or four very quickly. We have dropped points from winning positions too many times. Peter: As a Red for over 65 years I can't describe what total rubbish I have just endured. The manager and 70% of this present team must be moved on at the end of the season. As proved on Sunday, they are a Championship team. It would be best if they didn't turn up for the final to stop any more embarrassment to the supporters. Ahmed: United were lucky to get through. Unacceptable second-half performance. Can’t see Ten Hag and many highly paid, overrated players surviving beyond this season. Big reforms needed. Abel: United were never playing convincingly, even when they were 3-0 up. Coventry, on the other hand, kept going despite the huge gap. There is a reason they got this far. United need to do a deep cleanse this pre-season. Rob: A very flat victory - nothing to shout about. I can’t understand the substitutions. I’m as puzzled as the players themselves. Sorry, but I think it’s time for a managerial change. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/bb33/live/0de02c20-007a-11ef-8f04-472a4146f725.jpg

United, Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs interested in signing 28-year-old Real Madrid and France defender Ferland Mendy. Coventry 3-3 Man Utd (2-4 pens): Key stats
Manchester United have reached the FA Cup final for a record 22nd time, reaching the final in back-to-back seasons for the first time since doing so in 2003-04 and 2004-05.
Each of the last 15 FA Cup semi-finals between a Premier League club and lower league opponent have seen the top-flight club progress to the final; five of the previous six teams to do so have gone on to lift the trophy.
Manchester United have become the first team to progress through an FA Cup semi-final via penalties in back-to-back seasons, having also eliminated Brighton at this stage last season.
Manchester United failed to win a game (in normal or extra-time) that they led by three goals in for the first time since their 5-5 draw with West Bromwich Albion in May 2013 in what was Alex Ferguson’s final game in charge of the Red Devils.
United have conceded 74 goals across all competitions this season, their most in a campaign since 1978-79 (also 74). They have conceded 3 or more goals in 14 different matches this season, their most since 1962-63 (also 14).
Bruno Fernandes (13 goals, 10 assists) is the only Premier League player to both score 10+ goals and assist 10+ goals across all competitions in the last four seasons. He has scored in four consecutive appearances for the first time since November 2020.
Haji Wright scored the second 90th minute goal Manchester United have ever conceded at Wembley Stadium after Dean Saunders’ strike for Aston Villa in the 1994 League Cup final (excluding extra-time). Coventry City have scored more 90th minute goals than any other team in the FA Cup this season (4) with Wright also netting in stoppage time against Wolves in the previous round.

Erik Ten Hag - 'It is the end for United's under fire manager - there is no coming back'..Chris Sutton.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/b408/live/86f38e90-007f-11ef-8f9d-f36fcaa5063a.jpgErik ten Hag's reign as Manchester United manager is reaching the end and there is "no coming back", says former Premier League striker Chris Sutton. "I really don’t know where Ten Hag goes from this," said Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club. "It is the end for him now - there is no way he is coming back after that." "After the game people are looking at Ten Hag’s substitutions but even he couldn’t have foreseen that as the worse scenario. They were cruising," said Sutton, who won the Premier League with Blackburn in 1995. "The performance after 70 minutes was pretty symptomatic of how Manchester United have played this season - they lost control. "They couldn’t regain control and that has been the issue all season." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/23/06607497-63ad-4972-8a2b-dca014c5ddc3.jpgReport by Simon Stone, BBC Sport chief football reporter.Since his co-ownership was announced on Christmas Eve, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and new United director Sir Dave Brailsford have presided over a complete overhaul of United’s backroom team. The latest appointment was Jason Wilcox as technical director after his exit from Southampton was successfully negotiated. United hope to secure the services of Dan Ashworth as sporting director but there is still no agreement on that with Newcastle and as it presently stands, it could be September, once the summer transfer window has closed, that the deal is finally completed. Ten Hag is clearly under pressure. However, his supporters continue to make the comparison with Mikel Arteta, who won the FA Cup in his first season as Arsenal boss but also finished eighth twice and then fifth before getting the squad he wanted. Their win percentage is broadly similar, which fuels belief the situation is not quite as bad as some of the recent performances have made it appear.

Maupay, who infamously mocked Tottenham midfielder James Maddison's goal celebration earlier this year, posted "not even I would do this" to BBC Match of the Day on X. At the conclusion of Sunday's FA Cup semi-final shootout after a 3-3 draw following extra time, Antony was spotted cupping his ears in victory at the deflated Sky Blues players, despite coming on as a substitute when Manchester United were winning 3-0. His behaviour was a stark contrast to that of captain Harry Maguire, who immediately went to shake the opposing players' hands. Ex-Coventry forward Clinton Morrison also criticised Antony on BBC Radio 5 Live, saying: "He needs to concentrate on himself because he could be playing in the Championship next season."

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi is a leading candidate to replace Ten Hag if he leaves Old Trafford. Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel would take the United job if he was offered it. Arsenal and Manchester United have joined the race to sign Crystal Palace and France winger Michael Olise, 22, but face competition from Chelsea, Manchester City and Juventus. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/3612/production/_133224831_gettyimages-2150032411.jpg Manchester United's past five fixtures have produced a total of 27 goals
Report By Simon Stone, BBC Sport chief football news reporter.Manchester United's chaotic high-scoring form continued at Old Trafford as they twice came from behind to overcome spirited Sheffield United at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund struck in the final nine minutes to ensure the win. Manchester United captain Fernandes followed up an excellent pinpoint 25-yard drive by hooking back the cross five minutes from time that allowed Hojlund to score his first goal since February. As in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Coventry, it was a favourable outcome in the end for under-pressure manager Erik ten Hag. But there are some staggering statistics to go with their recent results. In total, 27 goals have now been scored in their past five games. They have conceded and scored at least two in all of them. In entertainment terms, it is sensational. However, there is zero sense of structure and it can only be wondered what new technical director Jason Wilcox made of it as he watched his first game in the Old Trafford directors' box since his appointment was confirmed last week. After railing against the media the day before the game, labelling coverage of the Coventry match "embarrassing" and "a disgrace", Ten Hag's team failed to follow up by convincing on the pitch. Without a win since February and with only three in the league all season, Sheffield United led twice, through Jayden Bogle in the first half and Ben Brereton Diaz in the second. The home side levelled each time, courtesy of Harry Maguire's deft header and Fernandes' penalty. And Manchester United eventually claimed the points to move back into sixth spot. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/24/b1441a33-478a-4b85-9424-b9efdaa048bc.png

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to BBC Match of the Day: "Many positives today. The resilience to fight back after losing two times. But also there were negatives. We gave it away, it can't happen, unacceptable, we have to learn from this. "But I'm happy with the win and we need to move on." On his side's reaction to falling behind: "Have you seen some panic? No, not at all, we were very composed. We kept making chances throughout the game." Were the final 15 minutes his side at its best? "No, the 70 minutes at Wembley was much better. We can play very good in moments. It's not easy when there are many changes." On Casemiro's performance: I think he's a very good centre-back, together with Harry [Maguire]. Very stable in and out of possession." On Bruno Fernandes: "He's very consistent. At the moment he's in very good form. "We are striving to progress the team. The number of goals we are scoring in this moment is a huge progress. If we have our back four back, then I'm sure we will be more consistent." On players returning from injury: "Mason Mount, he will return I think." Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was for the crowd a good game. Four goals and many chances we created. "I think we played quite well, also creating many more chances. Many positives. But also negatives. Conceding two goals from give-aways. It's unacceptable. "We want to play dynamic, attacking football. That is what we want to see. Since the winter we create lots of chances and also score a lot of chances." On Bruno Fernandes: "He is really leading the team. I'm very happy with his performance." On Casemiro playing at centre-back: "He's playing very good, we know he can play there. "Two give-aways. It can't happen, it's unacceptable. We have to get it out of our game."

The club believe the 28-year-old would bring experience and leadership to their dressing room. Meanwhile, United could look to move on as many as 12 players this summer, including 26-year-old England forward Marcus Rashford and 32-year-old Brazil midfielder Casemiro. The Red Devils are interested in a move for 28-year-old Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy, with Arsenal also linked with the Frenchman. Erik ten Hag will face a 25% pay cut if he remains as manager, with the club set to miss out on Champions League qualification.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/482e/live/673ce6c0-fcc7-11ee-8369-47dc4454b972.jpgWe asked for your views on Manchester United's 4-2 win over relegation-threatened Sheffield United on Wednesday night.
Here are some of your answers:
Manchester United fans
Christine: The win is papering over the cracks and, as an Erik ten Hag fan, I am finding it more and more difficult to defend him. There is no structure and the players are constantly not turning up for work, Marcus Rashford being one of them. It is a relief that we beat Sheffield United, but the fear is the next game and what team turns up then. Peter: Shocked - even more shocked than before. I'm glad we scored four goals, but to concede two goals so easily is extraordinary. But, it's United's season. I don't think Ten Hag has complete control of this team, the players are so disjointed and have been all season. Normally it would improve, but amazingly it has actually got worse. Lost for words. Lucy: Much better than the Coventry game. We are still not there just yet, but Harry Maguire is showing his class once again, Rasmus Hojlund is back on the scoresheet, and we are all talking about Bruno. It's time to sort out the defence and the hesitation now. Ewan: We got there in the end. A decent win. Bruno had a good game and I was glad to see the real player emerge for one game. I thought there were still frailties and both goals were naive. We still can't control games, even against weak opposition - no disrespect. The highlights for me were Hojlund's goal and Ethan Wheatley's debut. He looks great in the under-18s and we need our youth now! ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/3612/production/_133224831_gettyimages-2150032411.jpg
