Glazers 'haven't got a clue'


There have been multiple protests against the Glazer family's ownership of the Old Trafford side in recent years - including one in May 2021 which caused the Red Devils' match against Liverpool to be postponed.

United fans are planning another protest against the American family, who have owned the club since 2005, during their latest meeting with their bitter rivals.

#EmptyOldTrafford has even been trending on Twitter as supporters call for a boycott of the game a week on Monday.

"Joel Glazer has to get on the plane tomorrow," Neville said. "He has to get over to Manchester and he has to start to divert the issues away from the club and tell everybody what his plan is with the football club.

"When a business is failing and not performing, it is the owner of that business' fault. It is failing miserably.

"They took £24m out of the club two months ago, now they have a decrepit, rotting stadium that is second rate, when it was one of the best stadiums 10 to 15 years ago.

"You've got a football project where they haven't got a clue. You can look at the players all you like, but there are big things that need to be put right.

"They have to show up and face the music. The club is rotten."

MUST, the club's Supporters' Trust, issued a statement in the aftermath of Saturday's defeat, saying the result feels like "the culmination of a long-term direction of travel".

It added: "What we have witnessed tonight is an embarrassment - no, a humiliation - for Manchester United fans. And yet in many ways it was not a surprise."

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to buy Manchester United.

News of the 69-year-old's interest follows a Bloomberg report that the Glazer family are willing to sell a minority stake in the club.

"If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer," Ratcliffe's spokesperson told The Times.

"If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership."

United, 20-time English champions, are bottom of the Premier League after losing both their opening games of the season under new manager Erik ten Hag.

The woeful start has intensified criticism of the Glazers and their perceived lack of investment in the team.

This summer has seen new signings fail to materialise, including a fruitless pursuit of Barcelona's Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, while superstar striker Cristiano Ronaldo could leave Old Trafford.

The club has struggled since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and has not won a trophy since 2017.

After being bottom of the Premier League after losing their first two games, Manchester United have won their last two and are currently 11th in the table.

Manager Erik ten Hag added: "I see it as a start. I think we have a good base, this is the minimum we have to bring.

"I was happy to see the turn and we have to keep that, to keep the spirit, to keep this winning mentality because you need it if you want a successful season in this squad."

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly set to be handed £100million to spend in the January transfer window - but only if star man Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the club.

The Dutchman is thought to have around £70m available to further reinforce his side this winter but should the wantaway Portuguese legend force through the move he seems so keen to get, Ten Hag could be handed another £30m, according to The Sun.

Ten Hag has already made six signings for a total of around £230m, but according to reports is still looking to bring in at least three more players to rival Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title.

“A kid asked me to wear them,” Sancho explained after the match about sticking to his word. “It was a little gesture from me, when I scored, to show him I was wearing shin pads.”

Manchester City v Manchester United - Erik ten Hag is set to be without Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for Manchester United’s clash against Manchester City on Sunday.

The Red Devils take on their city rivals at the Etihad as they look to continue their four-match winning run.

Martial has played just 45 minutes of United’s season so far but he impressed as a second half substitute in a 2-1 win against Liverpool.

But an Achilles injury after a hamstring strain has kept the Frenchman out of action since mid-August and he’s yet to train this week.

The former Monaco ace is not expected to return to training before the derby but there had been more optimism that Rashford would be fit, according to the Times.

The England forward sustained a muscle injury in United’s 3-1 win against Arsenal before the international break and was removed late on as a precaution.

Rashford was left out of England’s Nations League squad, partly because he was injured.

A three-week break was expected to be enough for Rashford to recover but he’s yet to return to training and it’s unlikely that he’ll be risked at the Etihad, even if he manages to return in the next 48 hours.

Should the pair be unavailable, Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to be selected to start.

The Portugal captain hasn’t started in the Premier League since a defeat to Brentford, with Ten Hag favouring a younger front three.

Erik ten Hag has called on his Manchester United players to "play smart but nasty".

United saw a four-game Premier League winning run ended by a humiliating 6-3 defeat by Manchester City on Sunday.

Ten Hag's sixth-placed side have received 23 bookings in seven games his season - the second most in the league.

"I know nasty," Ten Hag said. "I know what nasty is. I think also in that matter we can progress. Sometimes also play a little bit more smart."

The Dutch manager added: "We have too many bookings and some in the start [of matches]. I heard in the Premier League they will play tough but I'm really wondering why we collect so many bookings. I don't understand."

Only Nottingham Forest (24) have accumulated more yellow cards than United in the English top-flight this term.

Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot earned a team-high fourth booking after just two minutes in Sunday's Manchester derby loss.

"The first booking on Sunday, I really don't understand that. We want to play tough, we want to keep the game going," Ten Hag said.

"Then in the second minute already it's a booking. I think it's a duel, clear it was a foul, but to then get booked? Also I saw many other bookings where I think 'OK, is that necessary'?

"But also I take it to the players. I have to keep the mirror [on them] that they have to play smart, but also they have to play nasty as well."

United responded to their weekend disappointment with a 3-2 Europa League win over Cypriot side Omonia on Thursday.

Ten Hag said he wants that result to be a "warm-up" for Sunday's Premier League trip to Everton (19:00 BST) as he seeks a consistent level of performance and intensity from his squad.

"It's physical, it's mental but it's also sustainability especially," Ten Hag said.

"When you had a lack of it in the last years, it's not something that you build or progress in a week or a month. It has to be in your system. It's a demand nowadays in top football.

"I think it's quite clear that [Manchester] City is a standard in that, and there are more teams, but I think also we can deliver that.

"We have seen it against Liverpool, we have seen it against Arsenal, but now we have to do it on a consistent basis and that is what we have to work for now.

"But that will not come overnight. It will also take more than weeks, it will take months."
