The Spain Under-21 international spent the first half of the season with Granada but that deal was terminated last week. It is understood there is a 6m euros (£5.1m) option to buy at the end of the season, although that becomes an obligation to complete a permanent transfer if Fernandez starts 50% of the available matches. In addition, there are 3m euros (£2.5m) in add-ons.

FA Cup: Manchester United fourth round tie biggest in Newport County's history - Graham Coughlan.. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1045E/production/_132345666_cdf_260823_cf_newport_v_sutton_035.jpgNewport County's top goal scorer Will Evans (R) scored the club's third goal against Eastleigh on Tuesday Newport County manager Graham Coughlan says hosting Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round will be the biggest game in the club's history. The League Two side beat Eastleigh 3-1 in a third-round replay on Tuesday to reach the fourth round of the cup. Newport have hosted several Premier League teams in recent years but Coughlan, a United fan as a child, says this game will be the biggest. "It'll be a hell of an occasion," Coughlan told BBC Sport Wales. "It's a fourth round tie against Manchester United, for me the biggest club in this country, in Europe and in the world. "I know some people would lean towards the fifth round game against Manchester City, but I'd say Manchester United all day long." Coughlan's family remain staunch United fans, and the idea of facing the 12-time FA Cup winners was something the Newport manager struggled to come to terms with immediately after beating Eastleigh. Newport will host the Premier League side on Sunday, 28th January at 4.30pm. "We're a big Manchester United family, we've been to FA Cup finals with them," Coughlan said. "I can't get my head around it to be honest, they are unbelievable names. "Just to have Manchester United coming to Rodney Parade is a hell of an achievement. "I don't know when it will sink in, I'm sure my family are doing Irish jigs around the house at the moment." After failing to beat 10-man Eastleigh at Rodney Parade two weeks ago, pressure on the replay at Silverlake Stadium was ramped up after the fourth-round draw was made. Ahead of Tuesday's game, Coughlan said he was ignoring the "pantomime" surrounding a potential tie against United. But following the win over Eastleigh, Coughlan admitted his words on Monday were an attempt to take pressure off is players - who he said have "run through brick walls" for him. "I didn't want our players to feel under pressure so I had to play it down a little bit," said Coughlan. "I'm massively proud of them, tonight is about Newport County, about those players, this football club and the supporters who turned up tonight in their numbers. "This means a lot to the football club and this group of players, they have run through brick walls and put their bodies on the line since I've come in the front door."

Omar Berrada: Senior Manchester City figure appointed Manchester United chief executive..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk/incoming/article31929577.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/0_Sheffield-United-v-Manchester-City-Premier-League-Bramall-Lane.jpg Omar Berrada (right) has joined Manchester UnitedManchester United have appointed Omar Berrada as chief executive after he resigned as chief football operations officer at City Football Group. Berrada has developed a huge reputation at Manchester City, initially as the club's commercial director. He then became chief operating officer before moving into the chief football operations officer role. "It is our stated ambition to re-establish Manchester United as a title-winning club," Manchester United said. A statement from the Old Trafford club continued: "The club is determined to put football and performance on the pitch back at the heart of everything we do. Omar's appointment represents the first step on this journey." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2074/production/_132380380_gettyimages-154750826.jpgManchester United's previous chief executive Richard Arnold stepped down in NovemberUnited have been looking for a new chief executive to replace Richard Arnold, who stepped aside in November. It had initially been thought Jean Claude Blanc, who was named as one of the Ineos representatives on the United football club board following their successful bid for 25% of the club, would take on the role. Berrada's expertise across football is viewed as a major asset. United's head of legal Patrick Stewart has stepped in for Arnold on an interim basis, but that was never intended to become a permanent arrangement. City had earlier confirmed Berrada's resignation, commenting: "The club understands his decision to look for a new challenge and he leaves with our thanks and best wishes." It is understood Berrada will start in his new role in the summer, with the circumstances around his exit being described as amicable. United said his start date would be confirmed "in due course", with Stewart continuing in the interim role. BBC Sport has been told Berrada agonised over his decision before making the move given the relative state of the two clubs. For their part, City believe the fact United have come after one of their senior executives underlines their status as one of the best run of all the big clubs across Europe. They are confident their current executive team, led by chief executive Ferran Soriano will continue unhindered by Berrada's exit.

Get Involved - Simon Stone Q&A
Danny: Hi Simon, a question regarding Man United's striker options. How likely is a deal before the end of the window? They still haven't replaced Cavani, let alone Ronaldo. Hojlund was a replacement for Greenwood. Effectively they are still 2 strikers short. What's going on? Simon: Hiya Danny. You are forgetting Alejandro Garnacho and the purchase of Antony. I realise they are not strikers but they are offensive players who could allow Marcus Rashford to play in the centre. And don’t forget Anthony Martial, who I am sure United would allow to leave if a decent offer came in and the player was up for it. I think Erik ten Hag will try to get someone in during January, even if it is a loan signing, but finding the right player is tricky. Like many clubs, I suspect we might get into next week before it starts to become clear. Nothing is moving at the moment. Once one club shifts, the rest may follow. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/22/ed8c6ed1-201b-4341-860d-bc435f09054a.jpg

Al-Nassr have already had a £20m bid turned down for Tottenham and Brazil right-back Emerson Royal, 25, and view Wan-Bissaka as a viable alternative. Victor Osimhen has hinted that he is ready to leave Napoli this summer, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid all linked with the 25-year-old Nigeria forward, who has a release clause of just over £100m in his contract. Manchester United's on-loan England forward Mason Greenwood, 22, is edging ever closer to a summer switch to Barcelona after starring for Getafe. Manchester United are interested in Bayern Munich's Cameroon forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, 34, and Sporting Lisbon's 25-year-old English winger Marcus Edwards.

Anthony Martial: Man Utd forward out for 10 weeks after groin surgery..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/468D/production/_132416081_gettyimages-1841165417-1.jpg Martial has scored 90 goals in 317 games for Manchester United since joining in 2015Manchester United striker Anthony Martial will be sidelined for around 10 weeks following "successful" groin surgery, the club have confirmed. The 28-year-old has not featured for United since the 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth on 9 December. The injury rules Martial out until April, with the Frenchman's United contract due to expire in the summer. "We wish Anthony a speedy recovery and look forward to his return," United said in a statement. Martial was absent through illness over Christmas, before the groin injury was identified, and has missed United's past seven games across all competitions. The former Monaco forward has scored just once in the Premier League in 13 appearances this season, and only played in 28 of United's 62 matches last season. Martial signed for United from Monaco in 2015 for £36m, but a drop in form saw him loaned out to Sevilla for the 2021-22 season.

Martial's injury has scuppered Manchester United's plans to sell him during the January transfer window. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1791/production/_132433060_callumwilson.pngNewcastle could sell English striker Callum Wilson, 31, for just £18m in the final week of the January transfer window, with Manchester United alerted to his availability. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag wants Ajax and Netherlands striker Brian Brobbey and Everton's English defender Jarrad Branthwaite, both 21, but the Dutchman is no longer in control of transfers. France forward Kylian Mbappe, 25, has received an offer to join Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer and another to renew his contract with Paris St-Germain, but he remains undecided on his future. That move could help Manchester United secure the signing of Real Madrid's 23-year-old Brazil winger Vinicius Junior. Sunderland have reiterated their interest in Manchester United's 21-year-old Ivory Coast winger Amad Diallo, who scored 14 goals in 40 games on loan for them last season.

SUNDAY 28th JANUARY 2024 - THE FA CUP - FOURTH ROUND
ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/6e78/live/8dd354a0-b955-11ee-ace0-c35c1b4f6d82.png
Newport County 2 (Morris 36, Evans 47) Manchester United 4 (Bruno Fernandes 7, Mainoo 13, Antony 68, Hojlund 90+4)
Report By Phil McNulty, Chief football writer at Rodney Parade.Manchester United survived a real FA Cup fourth-round scare at Newport County before finally seeing off the League Two side's brave attempt at a giant-killing. United made a flying start and looked to have wrapped the tie up when a smooth finish from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo's first senior goal gave them a 2-0 lead inside 13 minutes. Alejandro Garnacho also hit the woodwork as United dominated but the team 73 places beneath them on the league ladder, roared on by passionate Welsh followers inside a packed Rodney Parade, staged a stirring fightback. Bryn Morris' long-range effort glanced off Lisandro Martinez's head past United's debutant keeper Altay Bayindir after 36 minutes and Newport really started to dream of causing a sensation two minutes after the break. Adam Lewis' cross allowed Will Evans to steal in ahead of Raphael Varane to put Newport level as the hordes of 'The Amber Army' celebrated wildly. United were stunned but managed to regain enough composure to regain the lead in the 68th minute, as Antony reacted first to beat Newport goalkeeper Nick Townsend after Luke Shaw's effort came back off the post. Rasmus Hojlund made the result safe for Erik ten Hag's team, finishing from close range after substitute Omari Forson had a shot blocked by Townsend. This time the hosts had no response, leaving United to be grateful for their escape and the chance to look forward to a fifth-round tie at either Bristol City or Nottingham Forest. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/15048/production/_132488068_gettyimages-1967897853.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/5236e99a-31d7-409d-8d38-44a4e06152c3.pngichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/bd80b7ae-90bb-488d-87d0-9c06ccfabf03.pngichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/7f510e2e-208a-4882-8efd-aeaf395b4b0d.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/00df9ce6-6c62-4cb0-a9b4-9cc003b98807.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/7756f1e6-9b75-458f-b5c8-10a86d079d4a.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/c8075e3c-cd2c-4dc9-8a2d-a94f47978db9.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/7e462412-fd40-4542-968a-52bfead5606b.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/3c76f981-cb1e-40df-bb64-bf1493fdfb13.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/d1e12d43-ee4f-41e9-b275-a93144dc9f78.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/b794bf2a-e81b-48ff-b59c-a68e8ad1e1f9.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/278e34fe-5761-4f49-834d-e0018735224e.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/5867157e-386c-4da5-bd61-837fe9a4a9ee.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/99e9c165-1519-4147-b1b7-2e00972573d5.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/4f0667e2-97c2-4b46-977f-2212e92f6dea.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/dcd32d17-d47f-4cef-8d5c-1d1a9b569c4f.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/11c5319a-2889-4f79-adfc-bdb26321ff75.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/c0d2f611-1db8-4af6-a92c-cb8f20b911f0.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/ba321026-aa19-4451-bebe-3153d549f13b.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/b0cc4127-5056-4eab-8f74-5affe0dfa5e7.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/3d4ad491-f9d9-475c-a09a-67af26a5e7ca.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/28/5ee4f61d-d7fb-49e6-9a9f-4aa91663acfd.jpgFULL-TIME - Newport 2-4 Man Utd It's all over. Manchester United go into the fifth round but Newport gave them a proper scare as they threatened a comeback for the ages.
Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to BBC One: "The first 35 minutes minutes were very comfortable leading 2-0. It should have been 3-0 or 4-0.. They created chances out of nothing. Our defence transition was not great. We had to start again to win this game and we did. Well done boys. "We controlled the game, maybe we went a little bit slower. We had the chance to go 3-0. Garnacho hit the crossbar. They had nothing, really nothing and then they scored a goal." Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes speaking to BBC One: "Obviously it was not the result that we wanted, we got the win that we wanted but the result was not the perfect one for us. We didn't want to concede goals, the first one was great from them, an unbelievable shot. We had chances to make the 3-0 but when you get 2-0 in these type of games everyone wanted to score and get their goal and everything and sometimes we don't get the best decision for the team. I think after we did a great job to close the game." On his goal: "It was a good goal but we trained on it in the week. We knew that we had spaces with the cutback, Kobbie Mainoo's goal was the same. We knew we could attack and overrun their midfield, we had space for the cutback and I think it resulted well." On winning the FA Cup: "We have to understand that the FA Cup is our chance to win a trophy and we have to give everything to get into the final step by step, game by game but we know that to make the season look not as bad as it has been, we have to try to win this trophy because it is important for us, we have been in the final last year, unfortunately we did not get the trophy. We know how much the FA Cup means for our fans, our club, for the country so we know how important it is and it's important for us too. We want to get into the final and win."

Manchester United: Arrest over bus damage before Liverpool game..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/C587/production/_132076505_united3.jpgA 23-year-old man has been arrested after the Manchester United team bus was damaged when a bottle was thrown at it before a Liverpool game. Merseyside Police said the bus was hit as it made its way along Anfield Road near the Tia Hotel on 17th December. The bottle caused a hairline crack to the side window but nobody was injured, the force said. The arrested man, from Everton, has been released under investigation. The Premier League game ended 0-0. Liverpool condemned the attack on the bus but there have been previous attacks on team buses. In 2018, Manchester City's bus was attacked before their Champions League quarter-final with Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield. The Reds apologised and called the behaviour "completely unacceptable". Then in April 2023, Greater Manchester Police launched an investigation after Liverpool's coach was attacked on its journey back from the Etihad Stadium following a league match.

David De Gea is in talks to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab with the former Manchester United star set to return to football after departing Old Trafford last summer.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/01/28/00/80546591-0-image-a-35_1706402045527.jpgFormer Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is in talks to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab. De Gea departed United in the summer after more than a decade at Old Trafford, winning the Premier League Golden Glove in his final season at the club. The 33-year-old had reportedly put pen to paper on a contract extension in June that would've drastically decreased his £375,000-a-week wages before the club opted not to sign it themselves. United subsequently moved on in the goalkeeping department with Erik ten Hag signing Andre Onana from Inter Milan to replace the Spaniard, and bringing in Altay Bayindir to serve as his understudy. As a free agent De Gea has been linked with various moves, with reports suggesting Al-Nassr had approached the former Spain international back in November.

The forward came under more scrutiny over the weekend having been unavailable for Manchester United's FA Cup win over Newport County after reporting ill during the week. Questions were raised when pictures emerged on social media of Rashford at a nightclub in Northern Ireland on Wednesday and attending a Larne FC game on Thursday, with boss Erik ten Hag calling the situation an "internal matter" in his post-match news conference. This comes during a campaign where the 26-year-old has struggled to match his scintillating performances of last season where 30 goals in all competitions helping lead the Red Devils to Carabao Cup glory and Champions League football. In 2023-24, he has scored just four times in his 26 total appearances - his Premier League stats above starkly illustrating the drop-off in form. While questions around Rashford are far from the only issue at United, what to do about the situation will be high on Ten Hag's ever-growing list of concerns.

i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/01/25/10/80452375-0-image-a-12_1706178294052.jpgGary Neville was a guest on BBC Breakfast earlier and the former Manchester United and England defender was asked about Marcus Rashford reporting ill for training after reports the striker was seen in nightspots in Northern Ireland. He said: "To me, going out for a drink or going out for a night out is something that every football player will do and should do so I’ve got no problem with that whatsoever. They need to enjoy themselves. "It’s just all about choices and timing. Manchester United have just had a winter break. They’ve had a couple of weeks off so there was a better moment for him to choose to go out. I would say, go out and have your moment where you relax with your friends, but your timing has to be right. "Marcus himself knows - he’s an experienced player now, we’re not talking about a young lad - but he’s done it a couple of times in the last few months. "I’ve always seen Marcus has being really responsible, a good professional and someone who works hard every single day. I know he’s going through a dip in form at this moment in time but it’s happened twice and it can sometimes become your personality if you’re not careful. "If you do it too many times people can start saying, ‘what’s happening in his life?’ He just needs to relax, calm down, choose when to go out and get back to playing football at the levels we know he can." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/641/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/30/d5f64049-6a4c-448f-b88e-5cdfc339a310.jpg

Granada are close to finalising a loan deal for Manchester United and Uruguay winger Facundo Pellistri. Manchester United hope to appoint a new director of football in the next few days, before a summer purge in their recruitment department. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Manchester United and Ivory Coast winger Amad Diallo is keen to return to Sunderland on loan until the end of the season and has approached senior figures at Old Trafford to try to push the move through.
