Diogo Dalot: Portugal full-back signs Manchester United contract extension until 2028..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/9C6C/production/_129944004_dalot_body_gettyimages-1258247644.jpgDiogo Dalot has signed a new five-year deal with Manchester United. The Portugal full-back's contract has been extended to June 2028, with an option for a further year. Dalot, 24, moved to Old Trafford from Porto in 2018 and has made 107 appearances for the club. "As a group of players, we all feel like we are at the start of a special journey right now...everyone is intensely focused on preparations for the FA Cup final," he said. Portugal international Dalot, who has made 11 senior appearances for his country, initially struggled to force his way into the United first team, but has played 42 matches in all competitions this season under Erik ten Hag. He started the League Cup final win over Newcastle in February, helping United land a first trophy since 2017, and then played the full 120 minutes of their FA Cup semi-final victory over Brighton on penalties. United face Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday as they bid to add a second piece of silverware in Ten Hag's first season in charge, having finished third in the Premier League to secure Champions League qualification. Dalot added: "Playing for Manchester United is one of the highest honours that you can have in football. "We have shared some fantastic moments over the past five years and I've grown so much - and my passion for this incredible club has only increased since the day that I joined. "I can assure you that I will dedicate myself relentlessly to helping this group to achieve its aims and make the fans proud of this team." United triggered an extension to his previous deal in December, following a series of standout performances for Portugal at the Qatar World Cup. United's football director John Murtough added: "Diogo is an excellent defender with a great combination of pace, strength and versatility. "He has consistently developed, improving year-on-year since joining the club in 2018."

Stay or go ? What does the future hold for De Gea ?ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/e710/live/acd5f1f0-0050-11ee-aa08-4727df20b680.jpgKaren Bardlsey, ex-England goalkeeper and BBC Sport columnist..You cannot discuss David de Gea at the moment without considering his future - he is out of contract in the summer - and I think it's clear if he is to stay, he will need to evolve very quickly. If United are going to progress, it feels obvious they need someone calm and decisive in goal, with unshakeable confidence and, for me, De Gea is not yet that person. He's been an amazing servant to the club but put yourself in Ten Hag's shoes. While United's squad planning has been a mess for a few seasons due to their transient managerial situation, they now have someone in charge who has a clear identity in mind for his team, but does not have the players he needs to implement it yet, including a goalkeeper. I hate to take the human element out of the equation but, from a purely financial standpoint, it also makes sense to look for a new number one based on his age. De Gea is 33 in November - and United are unlikely to get much more out of him. That does not necessarily mean De Gea will leave. He could take a massive pay cut and agree his role is going to change to that of a back-up as he enters what is probably going to be the twilight of his career. If he does move on, he will have no problems finding a new team but it will have to be the right fit for him to be successful and I cannot see it being a top club in the Premier League. Everyone is trying to play out from the back now and they all want a ball-playing keeper. Before that gets sorted, De Gea could still be the hero again at Wembley this weekend, as he has been so many times for United in the past. But a lot will have to go in his favour and I hope for his sake he doesn't make a mistake that costs United the match.

Man Utd sale: Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim makes fifth and final bid to buy club..By Dan Roan, BBC sports editor.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/142EF/production/_130017628_manutd.jpgSheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani made a fifth bid to buy Manchester United earlier this week, according to a source close to the Qatari banker. This will be Sheikh Jassim's final bid, and after Friday he will no longer engage with the process. The bid is for 100% of the club, will clear United's debt and has a separate fund for the club and local community. Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Group are the other main party trying to buy the Premier League club. Figures in March showed United owed £969.6m through a combination of gross debt, bank borrowings and outstanding transfer fees with associated payments. The Glazer family, who currently own the club, announced in November they were considering selling Manchester United as they "explore strategic alternatives". Although there has been no response from the Glazer family since the last bid deadline on 28 April, there had been increasing confidence in the Ineos camp in May that their efforts to buy United would be successful. It is understood one of Ratcliffe's suggestions has been to lower the percentage of United he wanted to buy, from an initial 69% for all the Glazer stake to just over 50%, which would allow co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer to retain some involvement. However, there has been no indication when the Glazer family will make a decision over the future direction of United. They bought the club for £790m in 2005 and have established a valuation of between £5bn and £6bn for it.

Man Utd takeover: Club's owners spoke to PSG chairman about Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani's bid..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/88A8/production/_130048943_gettyimages-1490311479.jpgManchester United's owners spoke to Paris St-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi a month ago in an effort to get Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani to increase his bid for the club. BBC Sport has been told it was instigated by the Glazers, who have known Qatari Al-Khelaifi for years. Sheikh Jassim and Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Group are competing to buy the club. The Qatari banker made a fifth offer this week with a warning he would not engage with the process beyond Friday. Manchester United potential takeover - all you need to know It is privately being claimed the conversation did not work as the bid for a full takeover was not increased. It has been reported Al-Khelaifi has also met with the Raine Group, which is handling the sales process, although this is being denied by a source close to the PSG chairman. Those same sources are also adamant Al-Khelaifi has no role, either officially or unofficially, in United and the bid is completely separate to PSG, amid suggestions other Premier League clubs want any sale to Sheikh Jassim fully investigated due to a feeling it would be centrally funded from Qatar. Concerns have previously been expressed around potential conflicts of interest with Al-Khelaifi's club role, and his status as chairman of the influential European Clubs' Association and his close relationship with Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin. Sources close to Sheikh Jassim have repeatedly claimed his proposed purchase is being made in a private capacity. It has been established Al-Khelaifi has spoken to Sheikh Jassim to offer his experiences around running a major European club. It is not expected Sheikh Jassim will make any statement around the self-imposed Friday deadline and he is not intending to withdraw his bid.

Manchester United are concerned their plans to sign Napoli's South Korea defender Kim Min-jae, 26, could be scuppered if Harry Maguire refuses to accept an exit from Old Trafford. Manchester United are trying to drive down the asking price for Portugal international goalkeeper Diogo Costa, 23, with his club Porto holding out for 75m euros (£64m). Bayer Leverkusen want 40m euros (£34m) plus add-ons for Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong, 22, this summer, with that fee unlikely to put off suitors including Manchester United.

Newcastle are leading Tottenham in the race to sign Leicester City's £40m-rated England attacking midfielder James Maddison, 26.
Maddison is the only Leicester player Newcastle have interest in, which means they won't be moving for their English winger Harvey Barnes, 25, but they do want Manchester United's Scotland international midfielder Scott McTominay, 26.
Manchester United will only accept a permanent deal from Newcastle United for England defender Harry Maguire, but they would consider loaning the 30-year-old to Aston Villa.
Tottenham are close to agreeing personal terms with Brentford's Spain international goalkeeper David Raya, 27, who has also been targeted by Manchester United.
Manchester United are ready to make a £30m bid for Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, 29, regardless of whether or not Spain goalkeeper David de Gea, 32, leaves this summer.
Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal want AS Roma's former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho to become their new manager, but Al-Ahli also want to meet with the 60-year-old Portuguese.
Liverpool are set to move for Southampton and England midfielder James Ward-Prowse, 28, after appearing to lose out on Chelsea and England midfielder Mason Mount, who is set to join Manchester United.
Manchester United have made contact with Mount, who is keen on a move to Old Trafford, but Chelsea want 80m euro (£68.4m) for the 24-year-old.
Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani, 24, is among six strikers Manchester United have on their shortlist, but the France international wants guarantees he will be in boss Erik ten Hag's starting line-up.

Man Utd share price rises after reports of successful Sheikh Jassim bid..Simon Stone, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/13/7ae4ce23-b824-4ba1-80e5-4723b9c78ae7.jpgManchester United’s share price rose 17% in after-hours trading last night amid fresh speculation Sheikh Jassim’s bid for the club has been successful. The rumours originated from Qatar and involved senior officials at media organisations linked to the family of Sheikh Jassim. Sources involved in the process have played down the accuracy of the reports and the price did drop slightly. However, the development comes as the summer transfer window is about to open, with manager Erik ten Hag keen to do business to strengthen his squad, and a belief some resolution to the United ownership saga, triggered by the Glazer family in November, has to be resolved soon. Sheikh Jassim lodged his fifth bid for the club last week but it came with a warning that he would stop engaging with the process. Sheikh Jassim wants to buy 100% of United whereas Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS Group are happy to take a controlling stake in excess of 50%, which would allow the Glazer family to retain some involvement in the club. A number of parties have offered to buy minority stakes, although as the process has dragged on, far longer than experts expected, the Glazers taking that option has appeared to be increasingly unlikely.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/EEBB/production/_129951116_gossip_mount_reuters.jpgManchester United are continuing talks with Chelsea about England midfielder Mason Mount but there is still a gap in valuation between the two clubs for the 24-year-old. Manchester United are unlikely to make a move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane, 29, as Spurs do not want to sell the England captain, especially to another Premier League side. Tottenham are set to contact Brentford to discuss a fee for Spain keeper David Raya. But both Spurs and fellow suitors Manchester United are reluctant to pay the £40m the Bees want for the 27-year-old. Christian Eriksen could help Manchester United in their pursuit of Atalanta and Denmark forward Rasmus Hojlund, 20.

Manchester United will lead the race to sign France forward Kylian Mbappe, 24, from Paris St-Germain if the Premier League club is taken over by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani. However, Manchester United could attempt to hijack Tottenham's move for Raya, with manager Erik ten Hag keen to sign a new goalkeeper regardless of whether Spain's David de Gea remains at the club.
