Marcus Rashford: Manchester United forward '100% committed' to England..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/10D21/production/_130079886_gettyimages-1498121316.jpgManchester United 's Marcus Rashford says he is "100% committed" to England after he faced criticism for a trip to New York following his withdrawal from international duty in March. The forward, 25, missed Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine with an injury. At the time, England manager Gareth Southgate defended the forward's decision to go to the United States. "I need time to switch off and recover," Rashford said. "I took a short trip, four days, then went back to do rehab and just try and get ready as soon as possible. "With injuries, you can't predict when they're going to happen. Occasionally you do get impact injuries. I know that I'm committed to it [England] 100%. "People are going to say what they're going to say. It doesn't really bother me." Rashford is now preparing for England's next two Euro 2024 qualifiers, against Malta in Valletta on Friday and North Macedonia at Old Trafford the following Monday. The striker scored 30 goals across all competitions for United during the season just completed. His last game of the campaign was in the FA Cup final on 3 June, when United lost 2-1 to a Manchester City side who went on to complete the Treble. "It's not nice but at the same time it's football," added Rashford, whose United side finished third and won the EFL Cup last season. "The best team that is consistently playing the best football is going to win the most trophies. They managed to win three this year - well done to them. "We just move on. It's up to them to keep it up and up to the rest of us to catch up." City's Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips, John Stones and Kyle Walker joined up with the England squad on Tuesday. Asked what he will say to the City contingent at the England camp, Rashford replied: "Just congratulations, it's football. The most consistent teams are going to win trophies. It's nothing new. Look at Barcelona and Madrid, they're always going to win trophies." He added that England players winning trophies was "a massive positive" and would only help the team "get over the line in a major tournament". England's match in Malta on Friday extends a season that began for Rashford on 7 August, more than 10 months ago. The forward, who played 56 times for his club in a season which also included a World Cup in November and December, described the current calendar as "mad". "The players are going to push ourselves to the absolute limits," he said. "We need to be given more time to recover between certain games and at different stages of the season. "That's my opinion but I don't think it's down to the players. We shouldn't have to put ourselves in a position to speak out about something that we're not in control of or we're not going to make the final decision on."

Mason Mount: Chelsea reject Man Utd's £40m bid for England midfielder..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/15A21/production/_130090688_1d86f8692bb46a2d347fd9524328184b8df48c02.jpg Mason Mount has been with Chelsea since the age of sixManchester United have had a £40m bid for Chelsea's Mason Mount turned down. United manager Erik ten Hag has identified Mount, 24, as someone who can bolster his attacking options. However, given the England international has only a year left on his contract, United do not feel Chelsea's £70m valuation is realistic. The Old Trafford outfit are likely to make another offer for the attacking midfielder but are mindful of their overall transfer budget this summer. For the same reason, it is felt to be highly unlikely that United will sign England striker Harry Kane, 29, from Tottenham for £100m. Ten Hag has prioritised a new striker this summer, but Mount's ability to operate in advanced positions is understood to have made him a target. Mount joined Chelsea's academy at the age of six and had loan spells with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County before making his first-team debut in August 2019. For three seasons he was a first-team regular, helping the Blues win the Champions League in 2020-21, but his number of Premier League starts for 2022-23 dropped to 20. Mount missed the end of the domestic season with injury as Chelsea finished 12th, leaving him with 33 goals from 195 appearances for the Blues. Chelsea have been in contract talks with Mount for much of last season but the club has spent £600m over the past two transfer windows and needs to sell before 30 June to ease Financial Fair Play concerns. Mount made his senior England debut in September 2019, helping them reach the Euro 2020 final - played in 2021 - and he now has five goals from 36 caps.

Luke Shaw 'would love' England team-mates Harry Kane and Declan Rice to join him at Man Utd..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17B30/production/_130127079_30c877ad60ddec4c252963ff8e20f927cfc2993b.jpgLuke Shaw has been selling Manchester United to his England team-mates and would welcome Harry Kane and Declan Rice to the club "in a heartbeat". Monday's Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia is being played at United's home ground Old Trafford. Tottenham striker Kane and West Ham midfielder Rice are said to be summer transfer targets for the Red Devils. "I would love a few of them to join - I am not going to lie," said United defender Shaw, 27. "I am speaking to them, telling them how good Manchester is, because I know their qualities. "I know they are world-class players and they would be a massive help to us but I can only say so much. It is up to the club and whatever they decide, so we have to go from there. "It is not normally discussed but, because of the time of the season and what is going on, there is a lot of talk, a lot of banter." England have been preparing at United's Carrington training base and Shaw posted pictures on social media of him beside Kane, 29, and Rice, 24, with the caption "Carrington tour". ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/12D10/production/_130127077_678873af994bde55f4ad5f5d548d121931c39c00.jpg"I was half joking, it is a bit of both," said Shaw. "But if it was down to me, I would take them in a heartbeat. "Hopefully they like it and can get used to it," he joked. Striker Marcus Rashford, 25, is set to play on his home ground after scoring a career-best tally of 30 goals for United last season. "I think when he has had chances this season, you expect him to score," said England boss Gareth Southgate. "Maybe in previous seasons that was a little bit less of a certainty. "I would say the goal tally is big progress for him. I still think he's better from the left than as a [number] nine but he's definitely made progress as a nine this year and had a bigger impact." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/C794/production/_130129015_kanerice.jpg

Harry Maguire: Manchester United captain's retrial after Greek arrest to be held in February 2024..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/11BB6/production/_129903627_gettyimages-1494094839.jpgHarry Maguire's retrial will be held on 7 February 2024 - three and a half years after he was arrested following an incident on the island of Mykonos. The Manchester United captain was convicted of assaulting a police offer and attempted bribery by a court on the island of Syros in August 2020. The England defender, 30, was handed a suspended 21-month sentence. His legal team appealed, at which point he was deemed innocent until proven guilty under Greek law. The retrial was reportedly set to take place earlier this month, until Maguire's legal team asked for it to be put back. Maguire, who was on a family holiday at the time of the incident, does not have to attend the retrial in Greece and he is not expected to appear given the proposed date will be in the middle of the 2023-24 season.

West Ham are keen on bringing McTominay to the club should Rice leave. Tottenham's England striker Harry Kane, 29, is still hopeful of securing a move to Manchester United this summer. Manchester United and Bayern Munich are favourites to sign Eintracht Frankfurt's France striker Randal Kolo Muani, 24. The Red Devils are considering a move for Inter Milan's Cameroon goalkeeper, Andre Onana, 27. Juventus have offered 28-year-old France midfielder Adrien Rabiot a new deal ahead of his contract expiring in July, but he would prefer a Premier League move, with Manchester United and Newcastle interested. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/976/cpsprodpb/6533/production/_130170952_capture.pngichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/976/cpsprodpb/1175D/production/_130171517_capture.png

Man Utd set for record revenues, while fans protest against Glazer family ownership..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/09BB/production/_130219420_pa.png Manchester United fans protest outside Old Trafford resulting in the stadium store shutting.Manchester United are heading for record revenues despite not playing in the Champions League last season. United announced their third-quarter results at lunchtime on Tuesday, less than an hour after another noisy and visual protest at Old Trafford against the Glazer family, who own the club. That protest was timed to coincide with the launch of United's kit for the 2023-24 campaign. The Glazer family indicated they were ready to sell the club last November as they launched an assessment of 'strategic financial alternatives'. Seven months on, there has been no sale, amid rumours some of the Glazer family are keen to retain an interest. From the latest figures, it is easy to see why. Stronger matchday and commercial revenue means United have revised their annual revenue forecast from between £590m and £610m to between £630m and £640m, which would eclipse their previous best of £627.1m in 2019. United do still have large debts, in excess of £950m in total, including outstanding transfer fee payments of more than £160m. However, they retain an ability to make money, even managing it on Tuesday as a handful of fans navigated their way past protesters outside the entrance to and exits from the club's Megastore. United say their season ticket waiting list now stands at 146,000. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/228/cpsprodpb/d93d/live/270cef10-f52b-11eb-8617-87bebb01a75e.jpgDespite a stalled move for Chelsea's England international Mason Mount, United are insistent they have the cash to be competitive in the transfer market, although spending in previous years will limit them under Financial Fair Play regulations. United are committed to try to find an alternative to front of shirt sponsor Team Viewer for the 2024-25 season and, yet again, shareholders received no dividend. Not that this is any comfort to the three dozen fans who turned out on a drizzly Manchester morning to call for the Glazers to leave. "It is not about who buys the club, it is about getting rid of the Glazers," said Richard, one of the protesters. "We are going into month eight now. What is the hold up? What are they waiting for? "It is a lot wider than transfers. It is not about stopping people buying a shirt. Today is an opportunity to show the Glazers that we might be near the end but we are not going anywhere until they have gone."

Manchester United home kit..ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/27/9bc51968-bc97-476d-a362-f4f59631ad88.pngManchester United's new home kit for the 2023-24 season has been revealed, with the club saying it represents the "deep connection between Manchester and its rich industrial heritage". United added: "It pays homage to the city's iconic red rose in a stunning geometric design and draws inspiration from the bridge over the River Irwell, which connects Manchester and Salford and stands as a symbol of the city's strength and its profound impact on the world during the industrial revolution." The club also said the kit is "manufactured with 100% recycled materials, demonstrating Adidas' commitment to sustainability and their ongoing efforts to combat plastic waste". ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/27/e576f4ed-1688-4520-9c30-ff9cf44c1fcb.pngWhen Aitch took to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, he knew exactly what he was going to be wearing. It was the new shirt for his football team Manchester United - only it hadn't been released by the club yet. But this wasn't a fashion faux pas by the rapper, or a leak as some have suggested - instead it was a very deliberate marketing plan by the club to promote their new kit. They confirmed as much in a statement titled "How Aitch debuted our home shirt at Glastonbury", accompanied by a behind-the-scenes video in the Old Trafford dressing room. And it's a strategy that's worked, with tens of thousands in the crowd seeing the new shirt and pretty big hype created online. From high-end advertising campaigns, to social media teases and players wearing the shirts in new ways, it looks like brands and teams are getting a lot more creative with kit releases. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/06/24/17/72492349-0-image-a-13_1687622642395.jpgAitch is a massive United fan and joked about their rivals Manchester City during his Glasto set

Mason Mount: Manchester United agree deal to sign England midfielder from Chelsea..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/91E4/production/_130184373_gettyimages-1468129825.jpgManchester United have agreed a deal to sign England midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea on a five-year contract for £55m, plus £5m in add-ons. Mount, 24, will be Erik ten Hag's first signing of the summer as he looks to strengthen his side following United's qualification for next season's Champions League. Chelsea spent £600m last season and needed to sell before 30 June to ease Financial Fair Play concerns. Mount joined Chelsea aged six. Chelsea had rejected United's first three bids but talks between the two clubs resumed this week to resolve the impasse. It is understood Chelsea preferred not to lose Mount but were unable to successfully negotiate a new contract with his deal set to expire next year. Mount, who has scored 33 goals in 195 appearances for Chelsea since making his senior debut in 2019, missed the end of the domestic season with injury as the Blues came 12th - their lowest finish for more than 25 years.

What happened last season ?..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/ca97/live/684c9f50-1718-11ee-8cae-4785e93eadf1.jpgJoe Bradshaw, BBC SportThis time last year it would have been unfathomable to think Mason Mount would be exchanging Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford. At 23, he had just clinched his second straight Chelsea Player-of-the-Season award after 13 goals and 16 assists in 53 appearances. He was firmly established as a key player under Thomas Tuchel, a fixture in the England team and, having come through the academy, a real fan favourite. Then, 2022-23 happened. Tuchel was replaced and, while new boss Graham Potter still picked him regularly, the former Brighton manager's struggles to impose his style on the Blues left Mount struggling. Outstanding displays against Wolves (two assists) and Aston Villa (two goals) in October proved a false dawn and he only scored once more in the whole season. He started England's first two games at the World Cup, but managed only 25 minutes in the knockout stages as Gareth Southgate turned to Jordan Henderson. His struggles mirrored that of his club, with an influx of January signings including £100m+ talent Joao Felix in attacking midfield only adding to the muddled thinking at Chelsea. In March, a mystery pelvis injury effectively finished his season and he was powerless to stop the Blues limping to their worst Premier League points tally and league position. A very promising career has stalled mightily over the past 12 months. Erik ten Hag clearly feels a change of scenery will be sufficient to fire up Mount's engines once again.

David de Gea: Manchester United goalkeeper set to become a free agent..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E551/production/_130250785_gettyimages-1494060434.jpg David de Gea won the Premier League golden glove last season with 17 clean sheetsManchester United goalkeeper David de Gea's contract is likely to end on Friday with no decision yet over whether he will remain at Old Trafford. It is understood the framework of a contract extension that had been agreed was subsequently changed. This has led to both sides stepping back to reflect on the situation and preferred direction. The Spainish goalkeeper 32, has spent 12 years at the club, where he has played in 545 games. Last season, the four-time United player of the year won the Premier League Golden Glove for the second time as he kept 17 clean sheets. Both De Gea and manager Erik ten Hag spoke confidently at the end of last season about the player staying at the club. He could still sign a contract but from Saturday, the Spaniard can sign for any other club, having been free to agree pre-contract terms with overseas suitors in January. United have been wanting De Gea to take a substantial pay cut from the record £375,000-per-week deal he signed in 2019. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/30/b34e5746-62e0-46c5-8f94-2ea86a02df0c.jpgEven at a reduced level, De Gea's contract would still put him in the top range of goalkeepers and it is difficult to see him matching those terms elsewhere. However, if he does opt to leave the club after 12 seasons, during which time he has won five major honours, a record four club player-of-the-year awards and is the last remaining player to have won a Premier League title at United, it will create a problem for Ten Hag. It is understood tentative discussions have taken place with Inter Milan's highly-rated Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana. However, Ten Hag is operating on a limited budget and, after reaching an agreement to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea for £55m and with United also targeting a centre-forward, they would need to sell before making a move for 27-year-old Onana. United have triggered a one-year option for veteran keeper Tom Heaton, who is attracting interest from Luton, while Dean Henderson has returned to the club to recover from the thigh injury he sustained during his loan spell with Nottingham Forest in January. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/30/a7459009-3420-4a2e-9653-69d48b2cb1a3.jpg

Here is an industrious, intelligent, creative midfielder, entering his prime with a wealth of Premier League and international experience under his belt. What is not to like? Digging deeper only makes the case more compelling. Since making his Blues debut in 2019 - following successful loan spells in the Netherlands with Vitesse Arnhem and the Championship with Derby - Mount has amassed 195 appearances for the club, scoring 33 goals. He helped Chelsea win the Champions League in 2021, starting in the final against Manchester City, and also has Fifa Club World Cup and Uefa Super Cup medals in his collection. Like many in Chelsea's squad last season, Mount struggled for form, which was compounded by injury issues. In what became a turbulent and fraught campaign for the Blues, which they ended 12th in the Premier League, he was abused by some fans on social media. However, he has few bigger advocates than the man who was his boss on loan at Derby, handed him his Chelsea debut and under whose management he spent the back end of 2022-23. "I'm not going to tell anyone what opinion they should have on football, but if anyone thinks Mason Mount is not already a top-level player then I'm not sure what they're seeing," said Frank Lampard in April. "You can ask myself, you can ask Thomas Tuchel, you can ask Gareth Southgate, you can ask Graham Potter. It's clear he's a top player and a top lad. "The first thing a top player should have is a real hunger to succeed and play and do well for Chelsea, and he's had that since the first day I took him to Derby. That's simple for me. He's still a young player. He can go even further but he's already a top player." It is a sentiment echoed by England boss Southgate, who has given the player 36 caps, including four at the World Cup finals in Qatar. "He is an exceptional player," said Southgate. "He finds space intelligently, he manipulates the ball very well, he creates chances and he scores goals." Southgate's England have benefited to the tune of five goals from Mount. His best scoring season for Chelsea came in 2021-22, during which he provided 13 across all competitions. The 58 chances he created that season were also the most of any Chelsea player. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/30/18c1c04a-107d-47e4-bdf0-b8e2460bdb14.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/30/b65de170-c4f3-442a-a7ef-c1251e897d9c.jpg
