Being a bit bored and nerdy I rattled off a couple of emails to The Mirror and Independent. They answered quickly, firstly from The Mirror:
Thank you for your email. I'm sorry you did not enjoy the article by Jim Daly on Bristol Rovers bus parade, but I must point out that the piece you mention was intended to be a humorous piece and is not in any way a serious criticism of Bristol Rovers, the players or the staff.
It was published in our Row Zed section of the website, which is where all the offbeat/amusing content around football is published, and as you point out, Jim did include another picture of the bus tour which showed that many Rovers fans turned out to support the team and celebrate their achievement of winning promotion.
Again, I must reiterate that this was in no way a serious piece criticising the club, but simply a humorous piece based on that first picture which is, I'm sure, how most readers will view it.
...and The Independent:
Thank you for getting in touch about an item that appeared on the Independent website yesterday. I take your point that it was perhaps a little negative in its tone. The piece was intended to be a light-hearted commentary on the tweets being disseminated by the club's official feed - but I'm sorry that it caused a degree of offence. I hope in spite of your concern on this occasion that you will continue to visit our site and find much to enjoy. Thank you again for taking the time to write to us about this matter.
Both responses are fair enough, but the harm is done. The bee is out of my bonnet and I move on! That's you on the phone hacking list

Very sad news,as an ex player and manager at Hallen i am disgusted at APC. I Believe the ground at Moorhouse lane was paid for by by APC as part of the deal that saw the NSC grounds at Stoke Bishop sold for housing. I played for NSC throughout the 80's until the move to Hallen as the NSC teams were immalgimated into the Hallen club becoming Hallen A and Hallen B, Although none of us made it through to the 1st team we continued to play there for many years and became Hallen members. I remember our day out supporting the 1st team at Canvey Island in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup when they were a conference side. The club has been ran by a dedicated team of volunteers since before i joined and after i left, it is nothing short of disgraceful that this club is being forced to close after 66 years. I am presuming here but i seem to remember that there was a gauranteed lease of the facilities to NSC for 99 years but i am sure that the Hallen comittee are aware of this. PETITION SIGNED, please all Gasheads that have played local football sign this petition this club should not be allowede to die who are NSC ? All amateur Clubs are run by willing volunteers who raise funds to pay for rent on premises. Have they applied to Sport England for funding Have they organised a charity football/golf/darts/skittles match or Sixes Tournament yet ? Need to act quickly
Who were NSC. They were the National Smelters Company that used to play on there own ground in Stoke Bishop, opposite Stoke Lodge. When the company sold the site for housing there was some deal done to move down to Hallen, I thought this involved building the current clubhouse at Hallen but Nailsea Gas will undoubtedly no more details.

I assume the onerous conditions, including the delivery hours, we're in the contract from day one. What we don't know is if similar conditions were in the Ashton Gate contract? Personally I feel our legal team should have challenged the need for such conditions before they signed the contract. You do wonder if Sainsbury's included them just to allow them a get out clause if they ever need one and our legal advisors completely overlooked their inclusion. Bingo. But we didn't. Two possible reasons why could be that we didn't read carefully enough or were worried that if we asked the highest bidder to change that detail they may walk away, and we needed every penny of their money to have any chance of building UWE and being debt free. Like Seth, I'm not sure what to expect from this case, are we thinking that the ruling may be to instruct Sainsbury's to pay up straight away or could she just say that the contract is still valid but then leave us to argue out with Sainsbury's issues such as who is liable fo'know' the extra £1.5m that BCC want? Can she instruct them to pay up without us demonstrating that UWE is fully funded, do we even have a costed contract that is still in date/valid (was it with Buckingham?) to build the thing? And a dozen other questions. And how do you 'know' we didn't challenge them? Very interested to hear about your involvement in the contract.........

I'll bet Lennie was driving that team bus. If only they used a double decker and Ward was moved upstairs sooner then none of this would ever have happened. would that be based on the point when the double decker would have hit the low level bridge, therefor ending his legal contribution to the club, with his end of life insurance policy paying for the "wake" Lennie only had to stop for petrol because he was forced to that fat midfielder instead of a proper footballer

Having read what I can I still remain confident in our case. It seems a stranged defence to argue a) the contract we were party to drawing up was full of holes, the colander defence, and supplementing that defence with b) we could've terminated the contract for x, y & z ie we're admitting we didn't terminate the contract (a point I have repeatedly made to many on this forum).

Please take a look at this. Local football club with links to Rovers is being forced to close after 66 years. Surely something that can be done to help?? Easiest way Rovers could help is take out a 50 year lease with the council & take over the full running of the site & relocate or our training down there. At £20k a year that would be a bargain. Let Hallen & reserves play on the main pitch. Other pitches may need some upgrading but I've already heard we are frustrated at Cribbs with what we can & can't do to the pitches there. The downside though is that Cribbs/Sunlife club & team would probably then fold

Of course you are the person that told us in December that Matty Taylor had played his last game for Rovers. Not much of a track record with what you have heard. From the converstion I had with him in the Vic if the board offers him a new contract he will sign regardless of tomorrows result. I said he 'could' of played his last game for us. I'm not sure DC would have had a conversation with you if he had known your forum name. I'm sure he would've of he's not the sort of person who only talks to arse lickers like you. He's bigger than that.

Firstly, you'd think a trainee barrister would be more circumspect. Secondly, you'd think they'd be brighter. Thirdly, he's having a merry old time convincing himself of a fact everybody already knew: there's a funding gap caused (we'll argue) by Sainsburys pissing about. Fourthly, December 2014 is a long time after we allege Sainsburys started to piss about. And finally, £1.2m isn't that much in the scheme of things. We'd just have to sell Stuart Sinclair. Where are we going to get he other £1,199,999 from?

If a club came in for him that had more off field stability, less pressure from the terraces scrutinising everything he does, says, tactics, selection, judging the way he eats a fecking bacon sandwich, then yes he probably would go as I've heard there are a couple of league clubs interested in him. Everything might be rosy now, but i'm afraid all the hard work and the way he has turned the club around will be forgotten by the majority if we lose on Sunday, come Monday morning i expect the posters will be back up around the training ground. If we don't go up Sunday i hope he stays and is backed financially next season, because i can't think of anyone else out there who is available that could get us out of this division and build on the foundations that DC has built in such a short time. Of course you are the person that told us in December that Matty Taylor had played his last game for Rovers. Not much of a track record with what you have heard. From the converstion I had with him in the Vic if the board offers him a new contract he will sign regardless of tomorrows result.

Um but we're not in the Premiership so I doubt the Football Supporters Federation will have any interest in it whatsoever
FSF are not only Premiership, on its front page there is an article about Dulwich Hamlet FC and they took their safe standing roadshow to the other side of town's team which plays in red.
www.fsf.org.uk/
Well hopefully they will follow through on ur letter. Personally never heard of them getting involved in anything outside of premier league.

This should be a case for the Football Supporters Federation, they are campaigning against ticket prices particularly away prices. It should also be an issue for BRSC, but they do not get involved in issues such as this. BRFC should speak out, but do not hold your breath, they are constantly going on about the value of fans but will do little. What we need is an Independent Supporters Association.... Um but we're not in the Premiership so I doubt the Football Supporters Federation will have any interest in it whatsoever

What a great surprise to find a Nepal related thread in this forum. Someone on the other forum told me Dave Jeal was here (I live in Kathmandu) and I was going to see if I could watch the final with him but it seems he has left the country. Doubt I will be able to find any other Gasheads here so I shall watch alone on my laptop and hope the streaming isn't too bad. By the way, I hope all you wonderful Gasheads have in some way supported the relief effort going on here....we are hoping for no more large quakes, though we are still getting quite a few aftershocks, thankfully much smaller. My neighbours are still sleeping outside in tents but my family and I have decided to risk it inside - our house is strong, we think. My day to day work has been diverted to organising relief to those whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed in the remote mountain villages. But on Sunday I will take a 2 hour break and, hopefully, watch the Gas win at Wembley. Was at Wembley in 2007, but have not seen many matches since 2009 when I moved abroad...but even following on the internet gives me a buzz, so hoping Sunday will see a great end to this one year sabbatical from the football league! COYBs!!!! Hope you are doing well, don't jump to high when we score on Sunday. Had to follow the 2007 Play Off final via BBC text in a Thamel internet cafe. A few people really didn't understand why a lunatic was jumping up & down and running around the place, the odd swear word didn't help matters. Anyway fingers crossed for you & the people of Nepal that there are no more serious aftershocks.

Page 31 of that report - up to a quarter of children arrive at school hungry. That is awful. But then I thought, how? Why? Why can't a parent buy a loaf of bread (£1), 4 big cans of baked beans (£2.60), a pack of 12 eggs (£2), a pack of bananas (£1) and a pack of kiwi fruit (£1) at the start of the week? That would come to just under £9 and would be more than enough for a child's breakfast for the week. Child Benefit is £20 for the eldest child, and £13 for the others. For a lone parent on Income Support their children would get free school meals. Child Tax Credits would be in the region of £60 per week for a lone parent on Income Support, so that should more than cover evening meals and clothes with quite a bit left over. There would also be a £140 Warm Home discount available off of fuel bills, and there are social tariffs with Bristol Water. They'd get free prescriptions. We live in a society where everything is always somebody else's fault. People need to look at themselves and take some responsibility. If they have Sky and smoke but their children are hungry, then it is their fault and not the Government's. Of course the system isn't fair and there are people who lose out - single job seekers who are under 25 for example. ATOS have also made some terrible decisions, causing huge anxiety to vulnerable people and ultimately costing the country money when the decision is overturned after a costly appeal process. But how many people using Foodbanks are in genuine need? I think the growth of Foodbanks has created the demand and some people see it as an entitlement rather than something to fall back on in an emergency. Wondered why the anchor had been dropped on this thread. Now I can see it's because someone is talking sense. Let's get back to the usual nonsense
