Danny Blanchflower, Bill Shankly, Brian Clough... anyone else? Beattie from BT, with her ''it's good to talk'' slogan.

I realise that the subject of Chris Lines and his performances to date this season is a totally and absolutely a taboo subject for some, but I'm bound to say that I'm disappointed with what's on offer from him so far this term, but more to the point the fact that he is not a regular starter in the team speaks for itself. Steve has given his assessment of his performance from last night's game, and the question must be what has gone wrong from the end of last season until now? Don't misunderstand what I'm saying because there is nothing more that I would like to see than Chris Lines firing on all four-cylinders, but it isn't happening at present . . . and hasn't been for a little time now.
I look forward to the time that he's back to the form when he rejoined us, and I'm confident that if he can do so then the team performances are sure to improve.

The shot wasn't at the keeper, it was to the right of him, which is where Taylor was (just). The keeper could see the ball when Bodin shot, imo. Offside all day long. As soon as you are making any movement at all in relation to the ball it's going to get given and that seems fair enough. Tough on us but, from that video, it was a fair. I would be furious if that goal had been given against us. It's not to do with whether the goalkeeper is actually impeded from seeing the ball, that is an impossible subjective call for a referee to make, it's about whether he could have been. If you are standing in an offside position you need to have no influence on the play at all. As soon as you make even a minor contribution the flag must go up and that includes getting out of the way of a shot - it's a good decision for me. It used to be referred to as ''interfering with play,'' but given today's jargon it's probably something quite different nowadays. Danny Blanchflower once wrote in his Sunday Express column that "if they're not interfering with play, then what are they doing on the pitch?"
All bases covered there then.

I can't help but see the irony here in that many of us are upset and angry, over cursham and yet we are celebrating this shock win. Not having a pop at OP at all but it certainly gives perspective, for me in any case. Seems we had yet another night full of chances V Sarfend. We need a Meyer, right now. That's the magic of the FA Cup. There have always been upsets and shocks, and it's all good and quite exciting in a funny kind of way . . . until it happens to your team, then the boot is firmly on the other foot.

Case Reference: A3/2015/2702
Title: Sainsbury''s Supermarkets Limited v Bristol Rovers (1883) Limited Type: Appeal Appeal / Application: from the order of Mrs Justice Proudman Chancery Division dated 31-Jul-15 Hearing Status: Hear By 14-Jul-16 - estimated length (in hours): 15:00 Venue: London Constitution: Not assigned Not assigned Not assigned Case results: Track Your Case: Current Status: Awaiting bundles and/or documents from applicant/applicant''s solicitors Tracking Information: 17-Aug-15: Letter sent to applicant/solicitor to request bundles and/or documents If I'm reading that correctly (and there is no guarantee that I am), does it mean that the hearing will take place by mid-July 2016 at the latest? If so that doesn't seem to be very expeditious to me. It's quite ruined my Christmas already.

But seriously Sarfend is a very long way to go, particularly on a Wednesday night in November.
So good luck to all the travelling faithfull, and I hope that they see a decent performance from the team this evening.

Given the passage of time since the previous court case if that is speedy progress then gawd help us if it slows down. Which Christmas were you thinking of?When I've dragged myself out of my ongoing depression about it all, I'll give that some thought. But in the meantime, when is our next payment due on the Wonga loan. Does anyone know? It's like a juggler keeping his proverbial balls in the air dealing with all of this, and I'm struggling to keep up. Roll on Christmas, I say.

For people like me who were uncertain of the meaning of the word expedited, it is defined in the dictionary as ''to speed up the progress of, or execute quickly.'' So that's good news, ennit? Hopefully this side of Christmas, that would be nice.

" When he came in everyone was underwhelmed and when he took over from JW .....everyone felt underwhelmed again...." Wareham, why do you think you know what everyone felt/feels? I don't think I know what everyone feels, but I got a sense that his appointment was underwhelming. I think lots of people felt Ward was going to go and knowing how the BOD do things DC was going to be appointed and there was an underwhelming feeling when he was appointed. If you don't agree fine. The thing to bear in mind here wareham, is that we are all at the mercy of others posters perceptions of what it is that we are attempting to convey. What we mean to say, or indeed do say, is not always an accurate resumé of what we have actually said. But then again very few of us (if any) were trained in the art of journalism I wouldn't think. Although someone will probably disagree with that.

Steve Mildenhall. He was our first choice keeper for two years, I knew he was now with BRFC (and has been for a while), but he hasn't been playing recently? It is unfortunate shrimper, but . . . ''time and tide wait for no man.'' However there are quite a number that think Steve is still the best man for the job, but the reality is that it's only his contract that's keeping him here. When he went, he went faster than usual.

" When he came in everyone was underwhelmed and when he took over from JW .....everyone felt underwhelmed again...." Wareham, why do you think you know what everyone felt/feels? I think that's a fair point to be honest. If you looked at the reaction to his appointment as manager most people seemed to be quite underwhelmed by it.I think that that's a reasonable statement to make, and for the record I was fully in the underwhelmed camp, particularly when we lost our Football League status after one of the most shambolic run-ins that I can ever remember. Whether he was responsible is still being debated, but we were relegated from the Football League, and that was (and still is) a bummer for me. But things constantly change and evolve in life and football too, so credit where credit's due . . . because DC has made a good fist of it all since then. Clearly he's had a few banana skins along the way, Sunday being one of them, but I look upon him now as a work in progress. He's clearly (and rightly too) an ambitious person, so I don't expect him to be at BRFC for too many more seasons because logically he'll either be sacked or he'll be nabbed by a bigger club than ours. But I started out as being underwhelmed by his appointment, but I've still a way to go before I'm overwhelmed I think. But on balance it's OK.

He had to go. We played a player who's heart wasn't in it, yet the European Player of the Year 2014 was left out of the squad because he plays in France ! I'm bound to agree that he had to go, I really don't think that the RFU had any real choice in the matter. It was always a case of when, and not if. The thought of him fulfilling the remainder of his extremely generous contract would fill most people with dread. Particularly so, now that the close harmony of the squad has been broken so publicly, and it's likely to get worse too I think. If my memory isn't playing tricks again Stuart Lancaster was appointed on the back of pressure from the England squad, which should tell us all quite a bit. But he seems to be a decent man mind you, highly principled but essentially over-promoted. With the resources, facilities and players at his disposal he really should have achieved much more than he did, England's record in the Six Nations is proof of that . . . never mind the World Cup. It's a pity that the RFU don't take a little inwards look as a part of their review, but I can't help but recall what Lawrence Dallaglio is quoted as saying recently . . . that English rugby has been rotting for a number of years now, long before Lancaster's appointment. It seems that Will Carling's description of the ruling hierarchy at the RFU all those years ago, may still be a valid one. But looking to the future now, with the Six Nations just around the corner, I'm intrigued to see what (and who) comes next.

Denzil eh? I bet he took some ribbing in the dressing room over that moniker, I wonder if that's why he called himself Paddy?
Mind you, given the type of player that he was I doubt that too many of his opponents would have called him Denzil.

From today's edition of The Guardian . . .
His leaving his position was always on the cards of course, but I believe that the decision for him to go was accelerated by the public ''bitching'' that has broken out between the World Cup squad members. I'll bet Sam Burgess is pleased to be so far away from it all, as quite a lot seems to revolve around him.
But the big question must be, who will it be?

Who would want to be a keeper in those days? He got a free kick - what's he complaining about? Overprotected if you ask me.... What I liked was the reporter referring to some 'grand passing' which seemed to consist of Southend stringing 2 passes together.Considering the state of the pitch, I would have thought that ''two passes'' might well be an achievement.

Shows how we could rise to the occasion as a Div 2 team to beat a very good Club.
One major point the banner needs to mention Rovers defeated Man Utd Busby Babes 4-0 in the FA Cup.
You may need to promote this on facebook. There are 6,500 gasheads on Rovers Appreciation and 2,700 on Bristol Rovers legends group. Just to give it a little flavour . . .

I loved the way in which ''Ginger'' Roost was carried off, very unceremonious that. It was a bit like carrying a bag of cement from A to B.
