if i was honest, six months in each You mean winter in Costa del bishopston Pubs actually in Padstow are quite crap (and expensive). When I was down there I spent more time in the Padstow social club. Over the estuary and up the coast you find gems like the Longcross Hotel at Trelights, the Golden Lion in Port Isaac, and my personal favourite - the Port William at Trebarwith Strand. Newquay has the Lewinnick Inn and Crantock has the Bogie Inn. I think given a clear blue sky - the Gloucester Road is going to have an almighty struggle against that opposition. (Even when we've just beaten Dagenham and got promoted in the last minute of the football season)...

(Even when we've just beaten Dagenham and got promoted in the last minute of the football season)... That day is one I’m so glad I forced myself to go to. I had been very sick all week but I was positive we would go up automatically and told my friends this would happen & got laughed at. When Lee Brown scored THAT goal, I was lifted in the air, my phone, wallet & other important stuff got lost but everything was returned when we eventually calmed down. Days like that are what we live for. I just can’t help but feel sorry for the younger supporters as we used to have cup runs, won the watney cup, had meaningful Gloucester cup games V the 82 & had the promotions under Don Megson , smash & grab etc. We would occasionally get a famous plater come plat for us, Alan Ball, Mick Channon (sp) and Big Malcolm Allison come manage us. We also had the 1990 season and won the old third division and hammering the 82 in that seasin. Yes, we had some bad times but also interspersed with a fair few good periods

I havent lived in Bristol for 50 odd years but still stand up for it. Blimey just because we prefer a place doesn’t mean other places are s***. 😉 UTG!

I had 8 long years living in Manchester (vastly over rated place) and couldn't have been happier to move back to the greatest city in the United Kingdom. Bristol is mint.

Spot on KP. Like you have been watching Rovers for a long, long time. I reckon I must have seen Rovers play at Eastville in front of 30,000 several times. I'm sure we had over 30,000 for Arsenal in the mid 60s, even though we weren't a great side at the time. You always knew we could pull in a massive crowd for a big Cup match at any time, those league cup matches in the 70s were magical times. One of my favourite Rovers experiences was getting the old football special back to Kingswood after hammering City 4-0, just before Xmas 1963. Coming back from Old Trafford after knocking them out of the league cup was unforgettable. When I first started to go away games in the 60s, you couldn't compare their grounds with Eastville, or the potential of most of the other sides. It was easier to be optimistic in those days about our prospects, it just seemed only a matter of time before we would return to the old Division 2 in the 70s. Of course, it was far easier to keep your better players years ago. Our younger fans haven't even seen us play City in the league for 16 years or so, seems even longer.

What do you mean “young fans haven’t seen us play city?” I can remember loads of games and I’m only 36 and 3/4.

Actually its 3 April 2001 since a Bristol league derby a whole generation has never seen us play City ! For me that is a far bigger stain on this club's history than the year in the conference because that shocking run without a league derby was not a consequence of City having a powerful benefactor and becoming a powerhouse of the game, they were rubbish for a good many of those years, it is more an indictment of how badly we were run that we couldn't get into league one to play them when they were at their lowest ebb. We will likely never play them again in the league for a long time now and even if we do it will be because they have a really bad season and get relegated. So part of the joy of supporting your local club, a local derby now and again, has been taken from a generation of Rovers supporters.

Now much as I do not want to get into semantics or even a pointless argument debate, a generation is generally taken as around 25 years so, though I use 30 years with increasing life expectancy, so although it would mean some spectators having been around 7 it's not a whole generation. We have played them 4 times since in competitions. I do not worry too much about the fixture, seeing home 'fans' rush to the Rovers' end, seeing our players getting attacked, hiding your scarf outside Trashton, seeing police horses on the Mem or having that experience of that toxic testimonial in 2012, beyond bragging rights, I do not miss them.

Although it would be nice for both teams to be doing well and competing against each other as high as possible, I Couldn't give a f**k if we played them or not if that makes any sort of sense
I don't miss the aggro that's for sure

Well according to Scottish Nicola, First Minister having a second referendum is once in a generation ...so by her way that's every three years until she gets what she wants ..
As regards positive rivalry ...I have to admit I do miss the Bristol League Derby....Roger Malone, Colin Howlett etc

Continuing our now regular headings I can advise on another couple of issues that we dealt with at our meeting on the 10th. Firstly we have set the date of our Annual General Meeting for Thursday, December 6th. News of this has leaked out already and a few members have complained at the late date. However, it is better to get things right after the embezzlement scandal of the previous year so we have, rightly in my opinion, taken our time on the accounts which were formally passed by the committee at the meeting and all the officers now have to prepare their reports. More details on this important meeting will be made available through our website and all the usual channels, including this column for those who are not on line.

Can't help feeling that we're seeing the slow demise of the SC in its present form. The sale of 199 and the acrimony surrounding the 'departure' of the staff. Lack of information regarding BSS's departure and no decision, apparently, about the situation regarding a second SC Director The whole embezzlement issue and how it was dealt with. Saying that the AGM would be in October and then announcing December. The widespread feeling that KM fails to engage with fans and lack of clarity around the end of his tenure, with no notice being given of election/s at the AGM. Uncertainty around the nature of the relationship between the SC and the present owners (and any possible future owner/s) Good people continuing to keep the SC alive, but little sign of engagement with, and recruitment of, younger members and volunteers.
Perhaps now is the time for a constructive debate about the need for, and the role of, any supporters' organisation beyond fundraising for the club and doing jobs which otherwise the club would have to pay people to do.

Plenty talk the talk about helping THEIR CLUB but keyboard warriors don't stand out in the rain and winds selling 50/50 tickets and programmes. I admire those individuals who actually help their Club in any capacity. They deserve to be treated with RESPECT.

So someone leaked the news. Shocking. Fourteen days notice is all that's required. Fancy anyone ignoring what's set out in the rules and regs. 7.1 The BRSC financial year shall end on 30th June each year 8.1 The Annual General Meeting (“AGM) will be held within 4 months of the end of the financial year
