It has been over a week since Steve Hamer stated "Time is running out" for a deal with Taylor and (unless I've missed something) still no news. Darryl will need a level of certainty about his squad and with the first game just a month away our No.1 striker is still not committing to the club. No one seems to be letting on as to what the stumbling block to him signing is but if the club has given him their BAFO (Best and Final Offer) then time for for an ultimatum to Taylor I think.

Maybe MT just wants a quick word with DC about the incentives? We all know DC likes to offer incentive based contracts...if MT is ok with the basic package but thinks wins will be less likely in league one and so would like the win bonus upped a bit (or goals scored...you get the drift) with DC not being there to ask ..he'd be waiting for him to return from honeymoon to have that conversation?
sorry, did not put that very well. No one is suggesting an MT goal is worth more than a Chris Lines goal or that MT gets a bigger win bonus than Billy Bob. ..but if our deal matches a championship clubs offer except for the incentives he'd have to talk to DC about it because it would mean that all the players would need to have their incentives raised in order to ensure fair play and only DC could sanction that. Imagine the goal bonus is 1k ...apart fro MT blowing 5k against York and D&R (!) he would have got 28k extra for the goals he scored. Now we might double that for l1 but say a championship club trebled it ....worth talking to the boss or not?

Goal bonuses for an individual are a terrible idea. They can make players selfish and influence their on field decision making. You win as a team and you lose as a team, simple as.

If we were to go into a season with a known settled team it would be the first for a long time. I've tried to ignore the MT saga rather than letting it eat me up. His main personal stumbling blocks are: is he good enough for a higher league and will he play as often as he does for Rovers? He knows he misses a fair number of chances, and scouts will have seen that, and this will soon put him on the bench. Money, though, ultimately decides matters as he has to cash in while he can and so will not refuse a silly offer, but he would have gone by now to a good package as the other team would want to settle its squad as well.

I think everyone should just chill over MT.
Gone are the days we should fret and spend a whole close season courting one player on social media.
With what wales achieved yesterday (I'm still in shock), it reinforces the 'team' mentality and approach. MT fits finely into our team but no one person is greater than it.
My instincts suggest he is staying with us, just it hasn't been announced yet (maybe because of a formal reason) as he's had plenty of time to think about it, is out of contract, and hasn't announced intention to leave. When you leave somewhere, you generally do it asap.
He hasn't.
If I'm wrong, then fine. I wouldn't lose sleep. I would wish him all the best and move on. I would certainly trust DC to find a suitable replacement, as every one of his full time squad made great contributions last season, so the squad DC built is very credible..
I hope he stays. I like him and always have. I've even defended him on here when many seem upset by his inclusion. But.....after watching both York & Daggers, didn't he ever miss some sitters?!

DC back from holiday this weekend. I'm sure it will be sorted quickly now. Whatever happens I wish Matt all the very best for the future.

If he wanted to go, he would have gone by now. As from yesterday he is not earning so to me it looks like he wants to stay but dotting the "i" s and crossing the "t" s. If he does ultimately go, good luck to him. He contributed greatly to two promotins and helped get our club back. So whatever happens, he has a place in history with the club.

Taylor has had two months to decide whether he wants to stay or go,he owes Darrell a great deal for a) signing him and b) having faith in him when many doubted his ability to score on a regular basis. Of course DC owes Taylor for being an integral part of our two promotions but enough is enough, no one player is bigger than the team and Darrells first thought must be planning the team for the new season. Personally I hope he stays but not at any price, the team spirit is more important than any one single player.

Either he wants to stay or he doesn't, he has strung this out for many weeks and we are now into pre season. It needs to be sorted one way or the other asap.
Personally, I wish he'd just go now, I don't think he's half as good as his agent seems to think he is.

No one seems to be letting on as to what the stumbling block to him signing is but if the club has given him their BAFO (Best and Final Offer) then time for for an ultimatum to Taylor I think. In reality it's only been 2 days since contracts ran out. It's only us that are being impatient as I see it anyway. I heard talk that Celtic were close to sealing a deal with him but that is not from a club source buy from a friend who has the ear of one of the Celtic people. I am not overly bothered in honest. I was talking to a very interesting club man, last night, we both talked about how Taylor had progressed but also about him missing a fair few that looked easier to actually score than to miss. As much as I have grown to like Taylor, given that I had given him some stick previously, I still feel that he is not the be all and end all. I think that we have a Taylor made replacement ( pun intended) in Billy Bodin. I think BBodin can get the goals if he is played in the position that Taylor is played in. What we don't need is a protracted set of meetings and this ending up with us being in the JJOT conondrum. I imagine that our new owner and his advisors will be all over this and will not allow it to become a problem. To be honest I would have liked MT to habe signed by now and so it makes me think that his heart is not really with us right now. He also has a duty of care to his own life and career prospects. As I have previously said, I doubt very much that his profile will ever be as high and in the eye of the agents, again. He has to take into account how much longer his career will continue and make the best decision for his own good. Whilst I really appreciate those wonderful players, who have been quick to sign and the confidence that message brings to us, I totally understand that MT will want to secure a deal that will see him earn well. We all know that any player is just one awful foul away from a career ending injury. Anyway, sorry for the long post. The gist of what I wanted to say is that it's not been long from his contract ending. I would hope that we would want to know by next weeks end of we will have to look elsewhere. I don't begrudge him a big money move. I doubt he would habe been earning well in the last 2 seasons.

I think everything you write is correct but not the final sentence. The clubs that will be able to offer the bigger wages and overall package are normally the ones who already have decent options for the position he would be considered for. I think that you are spot on with regards to how often he would get to play though. Would it be enough of a package to see him give up a relatively guaranteed starting spot ? Egos are in play here and I guess we will find out soon enough.

As as one of the people who doubted both DC and MT, I habe learned that patience really is a virtue and something that I habe really and consciously tried to work on. In all honesty, I still don't think MT is as good as he maybe thinks he is but there is no avoiding his stats. Imagine if he scored just half of the more simple ome on ones that he missed. He would have more than likely hammered the club record for goals in one season. He is going to habe to up his game even more in league one let alone if he does indeed go to a championship club. Anyway, haven't you heard ? Bodin's on fire, there defence is terrified !! UTG

Egos are in play here and I guess we will find out soon enough. I've tired ages ago of players teasing the press and supporters in the will he go or stay routine. MT has a super ego, you can see that when he scores and then poses as he runs by supporters and would be enjoying the media attention. Would he take a big pay packet and risk being a bench warmer - we all have our price and an agent would get his cut? But yep, if a club really had wanted him he would have been made an attractive offer by now. He's probably waiting for DC to get get back. Parkes left for more play time, but either way I'm sure his pay has not dropped.

if he had knocked in half of those he should have [ or we thought he should have] then he would have been long gone, before the end of last season, my [little ] money is on,that he will be wearing rovers q's on the first day of the season.... IF DC has acquired another striker before then, i could see him take a u messed me attitude.. now i will mess you and see him [MT] play a "supporting role" if the possible new striker materialises

How many more do you think he should have scored?
