Simple solution close the turnstiles/gates 20 minutes before the kick off, anyone arriving later does not get in. Most fans would conform to this, anyone wishing to have a drink before the game could go the pub 20 minutes earlier and have the same time drinking. Not really necessary. Sounds a good idea and sounds simple to do but all it really does is transfer the problem from the seats to the turnstiles and you would have it all kicking off at the entrance. Then, instead of us talking about the problem on the terraces we would be talking about trouble at the turnstiles. All you are doing is moving the problem 30 metres away.

Ah but the ill-feeling then is not between Gasheads. Perhaps you are right but it could escalate and more people get involved and a bigger problem. Could just imagine opposing fans getting involved. Don't think this is the answer.

Is this for real the whole incident is being blown out of proportion. If people want to turn up.at 2.59 or later fair enough there's plenty of times I have stayed in the pub. Everyone enjoys the football experience differently some like to be 1st in the ground some like to have a good drink so what. I'm still confused about ticket numbers as I have seen different numbers stated. Was there really enough seats??? If there was why did they open up ànother section??? And for the sit in your seat number it's not for me I think you should sit where you want it's not that much of an issue I don't want to sit next to certain people and you get to know faces so I avoid being anywhere near them.

In my experience the problems with unallocated seating are all caused by those who arrive early who insist on leaving a gap of 1 or 2 seats between themselves and the next group of people. When all the good people then arrive on time it's impossible to see those 1 or 2 seats. So if all the holier than thuo sorts could just shuffle along (after all you have plenty of time to kill) and fill those gaps the empty seats will be at the end of each row thus solving all the problems

If there were only less well organised people that turned up early and insisted on their own bit of personal space, those of us that want to get sloshed in some local boozer and turn up with a minute to go and sit where we liked - all problems solved.

The reality is that if it is all ticket and we sell out our allocation then we should sit in the seat our ticket allocates us. The steward I asked directed me to where my seat was, absolutely no problem and my mates who joined me later also sat in their allocated seat. I've no idea why some fans think we should just sit anywhere when we have sold out our allocation, all it does is cause anoyance among our own fans who then don't or won't listen to stewards trying to get them to move to where there are seats available. There were plenty of seats available in the away end just behind the goal, the Football League highlights show that. That certainly doesn't excuse the behaviour of some stewards but neither does it excuse the behaviour of some fans either. As someone has said earlier at Rugby matches people are drinking before and during the games, you never witness the sort of behaviour by fans that was seen yesterday at Plymouth, I've never really worked out quite why that is....hey ho ! So should we all arrive at 1pm and guard our seats until kick off? Allocated seating either needs to be enforced and properly stewarded, or not enforced and ignored. The halfway house that is adopted by most clubs, as at Plymouth yesterday helps nobody. I don't understand what's wrong with unallocated seating. First come, first served, no arguments? I have had it happen at our place. I couldn't get a place in the West so I got one in the South stand. It was rammed and so I had no choice but to ask a steward to get the guy to move from my allocated seat. The guy was with kids yet still acted silly and then proceeded to sit on my lap, in vain attempt to get me to either lose it or leave. It could have git nasty. Our steward was 5h1t scared. You do need to stick to it IMO.

And stupid/dumb/thick enough (delete as appropriate) to leave incriminating evidence at the scene.
