i know its a family game now and times have changed but it has always been singers and standers at the back so it amazes me how some insist on trying to sit at the back with their grandparents, wife and kids and then get upset when others dont want to sit.... the holier than though posh twats are fairly recent additions to our support most inherited from our time at Bath and not even Bristolians they would have had nervous breakdowns if they had ever stepped foot on the tote end.You can be outraged at me saying that but its true. Blimey, so we're only allowed to support if we come from Bristol now are we, that should cut the crowd in half next Saturday its a bit like west hams bow bells, maybe folks can only go if they or their father every saw the transit van parked on the m32 on a saturday afternoon, REAL gasheads

Call yourselves GasHeads? Transit van on m32 was luxury compared to the real Gas fans of Jews corner under it! Those folk had to jump the river to get a free view and anyone who isn't from that ilk cannot claim anything or go! So there!

I remember walking down from Lockleaze across the fields past the monument in memory of the woman that fell off her horse down to Snuff Mills long before the M32 was built, does that make me a proper Gashead ?

It certainly makes you a 'mature' Gas Head! *wink!* Maybe it was an olden days name for a lady falling off horse of the night? Whorefield??

I was thinking that as well. As the earliest part of the M32 didn't appear until the mid-1960s, the smell of the gas was there for many years before that.

My dad was from Lyneham,a Swindle fan really but joined the RAF and ended up in Bristol working for BOAC etc.I was born in Clifton at St Brenda's Nursing Home. We then lived equidistant between the two grounds and in the 50s my dad would go to Rovers one week and City the next, just with a bunch of workmates. But he took me to a reserve game in 1970 against Norwich,a 0-0 draw and I've been Rovers ever since. Yes,I would sometimes go to City in the early 70s when Rovers weere away but I was always hoping they'd lose.

I remember that the M32 at Eastville wasn't finished when Rovers played Stoke in the league cup,and I think that the gasworks was shut then or just after....maybe Harry Buckle could tell us the date of gasworks closing. Eastville was better when the railway viaduct was there, but I never liked the smell of the gas,it seemed worse at night games.

He took me to Eastville because it was easier to park but he never took me to city,so I was just Rovers. I remember he was annoyed when I was so anti city at my first derby game, but they didn't mean anything to me,and they won !

I think it was partially caused by some of fans arriving almost on kick off time and then not being able to find their seats and decided to stand in the gangways at the back of the stands. Some of our fans then complained that they couldn't see past those who were stood up. Some stewards then tried to get those who were stood to move to seats that were available but without success. Confrontation then erupted between stewards and some of those who were standing in the aisles. Basically it was 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the others scenario culminating in at least one of our supporters being removed from the ground. It was all so unnecessary..... But besides that bit of excitement, I thought our support was extremely good and got behind the team throughout the match, goodness knows what would have happened if Ellis had put that header away....phew ! As usual the crowd who spend 3 hours in a pub and then show up at 2.59 expecting to walk straight in cause problems (except at Woking of course)

Yes the gas smelt stronger on a Tuesday night because on a Saturday the sun warms the air just above the ground and makes it rise, and so the gas is dispersed. Not a rich twat but a clever one.

All depressingly mindless, especially having watched japan v South Africa in a packed Brighton stadium- 30,000 people swigging lots of ale, smiling, supporting, talking to each other throughout and no hint of any animosity. why is football so many light years behind rugby? saddens me tbh It's a shame rugby is such a boring, crap game, devoid of flair and played mainly by professional bodybuilders on vast hormone cocktails. Football attracts all sorts, from the posh to the dregs of society. Rugby in England tends to be watched by middle class estate agents, legal professionals and other assorted dullards who talk solely about holidays, executive cars and school catchment areas. Give me a football crowd any day over the lifeless real ale and Guinness quaffers at rugby, Bit of a troll but the entire concept of rugby, from the game itself through to rugby club antics to the well mannered supporters fills me with a giant yawn of boredom Great, at least I won't bump into you at the rugby.
I was brought up in Oldbury Court btw, where there really aren't all that many middle class estate agents, legal professionals or executive cars.
