Cricketer goes to occasional match. / was a season ticket holder for 10+ years but his job has got in the way a touch. Shocking lack of commitment.

Bambi is a big boy, I'm sure he can take a complaint. He won't change though and to be honest, why should he? I think you can block individual posters, so if anyone is that worried they can block him. ( I have found I have had to unfollow the majority of my Facebook friends recently!) You must have been more selective than me. I just logged deactivated my Facebook page and won't log back in until a level of tolerance returns to our society. How I miss the days of laughing at others and being laughed at. Mine was my own fault really. I really struggle to say nothing when friends post and share stories, that are not only false (and blindingly obviously so in most cases) but are also designed to stir the pot a bit more. I just unfollow rather than unfriend in most cases, mind you, I think a few had probably deleted me anyway!

I agree with most of that. Except of course, I am the only poster who is always right. That's not possible because I am that poster. More seriously I have also received a PM complaining about Bambi. To be fair to Bambi, he is only trying to back up his opinion, and we are all guilty of that to varying degrees. He don't half go on though Hey we're all different, and there's strength in diversity. Some like to agree. Some don't. Some go on and on. Some don't. Some get wound up. Some don't. Some choose to leave the forum. Some don't. I don't think there's anyone here I don't like.... .... because I hate you all with equal gusto as I'm always right and you're not! 😋 I agree with most of that. Except of course, I am the only poster who is always right.

He's probably fed up of the relentless need for a certain poster to have the last word. To be fair to Bambi, he is only trying to back up his opinion, and we are all guilty of that to varying degrees. He don't half go on though

I think this is a really good move. There has always been an exceptional talent base in greater London, which generally gets mopped up by the London clubs. We stand more of a chance if we can get hold of talent earlier. I did think there were rules in place that restricted the radius that clubs could extend their Youth / academy net, but possibly that doesn't apply any more. We did well from Stan Montgomery's South Wales nursery in the past. Perhaps this is the modern version. There was a '90' minute rule but that was abolished with the new EPPP deal to make it easier for the big clubs to steal young playersThat sneaked through without me noticing then. Although bigger clubs were exploiting loop holes anyway.

He Ducked Off last night after an exchange with Bamber. Such a shame, I enjoyed his company. That is a shame, I liked him too. Still, if he's happier to go, it's for the best.

I think it's a 9 k capacity to start with, like they could cram into Plough Lane, expandable to 21 k should the need arise. They'd fill that easily if they ever got back to the PL. Their catchment area stretches across south London. If they had done that in the first place they wouldn't have had to move to Milton Keynes

I notice that AFC Wimbledon have raised a further £2.3m via a share issue. This video shows how the Plough Lane development is coming on. More impressive than I expected: Why don't we do something like that. what could possibly go wrong?

I have worries because fanaticalall doesn't explain why he asserts what he asserts, and on balance I tend to find WAQ much more plausible - which, I realise, is not an easy thing to say In that case please explain why you think there is electricity to the site and also drainage and in particular sewerage? Without those basic facilities how can the Club expect to have a 'world beating' training site? which will attract players? FWIW (admittedly not much) my comment about me hearing that it was 'a goer' was from people within the electrical trade.

Absolutely. However, I am hearing from people on the contracting side of things, it's a goer. Very pleased if this is the case, but it being Rovers, I can't help but wonder where it will go wrong! What's a goer? A full planning application and a proper facility fit for professional football club?If this is indeed the prelude to that then this is great news. If they are just putting in a couple of pitches and some shipping containers because Cribbs was a no go and they couldn't find anywhere else suitable to rent, not so much. The figures I was hearing just to connect utilities back in the day were eye watering. That would indeed require a significant investment. A cautious welcome from me, but forgive me if I'm not punching the air in jubilation. But hopefully the first step in winning back trust and reversing the malaise that has set in. I'm afraid I can't add any more than what I was told that it was going ahead, I could have asked for more details but frankly when it comes to Rovers I am firmly in the 'believe it when I see it' camp, so didn't bother.

this appears to be very very good news - but let's just remember the Rovers motto boys and girls, 'I'll believe it when I'm sat in it'Absolutely. I think the thought was that we could raise even more money by having the 1883 and selling the shirt sponsorship. I think the home shirt sponsorship alone nets us £50k. I think the 1883 has been a great success. The player of the year do where they do the draw is a great night and very professional, all very un Rovers like really!

I think ( but can't be sure) that the raffle draw figure raised was just over £70K as there was a discount if you bought 2 or 3 tickets, but as you say, still a sizeable lump for any company to shell out. Who knows. Maybe not so many tickets sold and that's why we've gone back to just selling the sponsorship? Having said that, didn't we print a list of people who entered at one time? Then it gets more complicated as, and again I'm happy to be corrected if this is wrong, but I think that just for entering you got some kind of hospitality package? If all hospitality is sold out for every game, then maybe £92k was really £70k as you say, take off 70 lots of hospitality for a few people from each entrant and suddenly it doesn't look like such a great money spinner? That's right, you get a table for ten hospitality package. I did it twice when I was running a local electrical wholesaler, the tickets then were £1000 +VAT with discounts if you bought 2 or 3 tickets. Our view at the time was that if we didn't win the shirt sponsorship , was that at least we got to take a few customers on a corporate day out- albeit an over priced one. The company I work for now used to have an executive box, but opted to go for the 1883 club (the name of the 'raffle' club' as even at the newer price of £1250 + VAT it was a significant saving and we also ended up winning the stand naming rights for the South West tent. As you say, once you consider the fact that each participant gets a 'free' hospitality package that would impact heavily on the profit for the club, but I still think it's a good deal for participants and the club. The amount of money raised might even cover a whole days losses !

[br Thanks, possibly looking at the actual logo across the shirt Sorry, don't know details but think that Tom deals with that. Not sure what the cost is, but it's probably going to be quite high if what the club are doing now generates more money than the raffle, which I think sold 92 tickets at £1000 each. I think ( but can't be sure) that the raffle draw figure raised was just over £70K as there was a discount if you bought 2 or 3 tickets, but as you say, still a sizeable lump for any company to shell out.

Was it Gareth who missed a sitter at Wembley in the play off final v Huddersfield? It was. We still had an open bus tour for that one and after it I saw him in The Chase with his family (as I said in a previous post I knew his dad) I told him that he shouldn't worry , if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have been there in the first place, then his sister kissed me, which I am counting as 'I pulled Gareth Taylor's sister in Chasers '

His dad is actually Welsh but he is Gas yes, I think they lived in WSM , so were localish. I first met his dad when Gareth made his debut (as a centre back) away to Cambridge midweek- we got beat 6-1! It was a Friday night! I drove straight from work, just missed kick off. Parked on double yellows, didn't get a ticket. That was the best bit. I was taking the missus to her first ever Rovers game and had raised her expectations of a good game to unreasonably high levels. I think it was 1-1 at HT, for they had graciously scored us an own goal. Second half they could have scored double figures as wingers pumped in cross after cross for (I think) John Taylor and Dion Dublin to take turns and score. Brian Parkin was our best player by a country mile and made save after save. Thrashed 6-1, and then drove to meet the missus family in Southend for the first time. The future father-in-law had been following on teletext and had difficulty keeping up with the regular goal updates. On meeting him for the first time he was suppressing laughter. That's how I remembered it anyway. Fun fact (if it's true) - pretty sure Cambridge and Southend were 1st and 2nd at Christmas in what was Division 2. Funny what you remember from nearly 30 years ago... I knew it was a night game, I had just assumed it was midweek. It was a strange night all round!

I occasionally bump into his dad, he has been there for years, last time he mentioned him he told me he was a strikers coach up there. It's funny because I was thinking about this the other day and wondering what happened to him. B ecause I think I'm right in saying that he was a Gashead right? Normally you hear about those type of players subsequently because they'll be in the area and in contact with people and occasionally around the club. I definitely assumed he wasn't in the game anymore. Maybe this is the first step in a triumphant return! His dad is actually Welsh but he is Gas yes, I think they lived in WSM , so were localish.
