Gareth Taylor appointed Man City WFC ManagerGood to see Gareth making progression, previously managing the men's u18's. Former Women's coach Nick Cushing has just left to become New York City's assistant so a clear career path through the City Group for him. Interestingly he's one of the untested appointments I would have been happy with.

I occasionally go to watch Man City women as they play quite near to where I live and a neighbour is a fan. I think that makes it more likely I'll go now.

It's funny because I was thinking about this the other day and wondering what happened to him. Because I think I'm right in saying that he was a Gashead right? Normally you hear about those type of players subsequently because they'll be in the area and in contact with people and occasionally around the club. I definitely assumed he wasn't in the game anymore. Maybe this is the first step in a triumphant return!

I first met his dad when Gareth made his debut (as a centre back) away to Cambridge midweek- we got beat 6-1!

I first met his dad when Gareth made his debut (as a centre back) away to Cambridge midweek- we got beat 6-1! It was a Friday night! I drove straight from work, just missed kick off. Parked on double yellows, didn't get a ticket. That was the best bit. I was taking the missus to her first ever Rovers game and had raised her expectations of a good game to unreasonably high levels. I think it was 1-1 at HT, for they had graciously scored us an own goal. Second half they could have scored double figures as wingers pumped in cross after cross for (I think) John Taylor and Dion Dublin to take turns and score. Brian Parkin was our best player by a country mile and made save after save. Thrashed 6-1, and then drove to meet the missus family in Southend for the first time. The future father-in-law had been following on teletext and had difficulty keeping up with the regular goal updates. On meeting him for the first time he was suppressing laughter. That's how I remembered it anyway. Fun fact (if it's true) - pretty sure Cambridge and Southend were 1st and 2nd at Christmas in what was Division 2. Funny what you remember from nearly 30 years ago...

Was it Gareth who missed a sitter at Wembley in the play off final v Huddersfield? It was. We still had an open bus tour for that one and after it I saw him in The Chase with his family (as I said in a previous post I knew his dad) I told him that he shouldn't worry , if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have been there in the first place, then his sister kissed me, which I am counting as 'I pulled Gareth Taylor's sister in Chasers '

Was it Gareth who missed a sitter at Wembley in the play off final v Huddersfield? About 2 yards out, smashed it... the wrong side of the post. We were the better side that day.

Was there a bit of cloud over how Taylor left?
I have vague memories but I was fairly young. All those players were heroes to me.
I thought Justin Skinner, Justin Channing, Billy Clark, Worrel Stirling, Carl Saunders, Devon White etc. were gods on a par with Messi or Ronaldo. Then Rovers broke me.
Apparently Worrel Stirling was a bit s**t but I remember him being brilliant. Rose tinted glasses?

JOHN Taylor left with the term....one greedy barsteward.

Remembered with grace apart from the Wembley moment, unless something wiped from the eternal sunshine of my spotless mind?
Na, Worral gave us his all...esp at McCalpine when I genuinely went mental...as I did when we played Bradford at home 2-1 down at Twerton one interesting Saturday avvo..

John Taylor kicked up a fuss and went to Bradford for £300,000, what I will say is John's record of 44 goals in 95 league games is extraordinary,. For us to get into the Playoffs the year after selling him was nothing short of sensational.

A bit more modern though..

Gareth won his first major trophy yesterday as Man City won the FA Cup. Watched the game, Everton gave them a good run for their money and their goalkeeper Sandy MacIver was 'man' of the match. Man.City 3 (Mewis 40, Stanway 111, Beckie 120) Everton 1 (Gauvin 60) A.E.T

If you're listening to Rovers at a computer you can enjoy watching Taylor's Man City stuffing City live on the FA Player. 6-1 to The Citizens, right now. FA Player
