what will Pantsdown do? he won't be happy... I'm sure he will carry on financing Bristol Sport and remain his happy self. He's a decent human being who City and The Bears are lucky to have as their Benefactor.

A difference of opinion with many, Sir. It seems obvious to me that he puts a lot in to a sports club for nothing but the glory. And he acts in the interests of the clubs he takes over. I totally see that. Certainly his buying into Rovers instead would have been better for us than what has happened. It's his decency towards others, e.g. Rovers, that I question. I took certain comments cited about, and the surely somewhat underhand Taylor transfer, as showing a lack of decency towards his club's blue-and-white rivals. And we differ on the management of taxation.

So tell us this Shoves, how much above the amount that you have to pay in tax do you offer to HMRC, do you utilise your tax allowance? So what's the difference between him acting legally and you acting legally?
It's preposterous to criticise the Man himself, by all means take issue with the system, but he himself has done nothing wrong, other than create ITRO 600 local jobs and a mountain of cash for HMRC every year.
I love a success story me.

It's just taken from my wages. You thought that ducks never work, maybe. Have a good weekend.

They'll roll the contribution forward, but just ignore that, keep doing the same every year, they won't ever stop you. Here you go, I'll help you, use this page to calculate what you want to pay by adjusting your tax code etc; PAYE calculatorBut back to your point, in what way should he manage his taxation so that his creativity contributes more? My view is that (sports interests aside) Bristol is lucky to have him, a few more individuals who create billion pound businesses out of their bedrooms would be good, not bad, I just don't 'get' this desire some feel to knock the Man.

The comment was Made by SL on the Pitch at AG Not that I'm doubting you KP, but I wondered whether it was an urban myth, as I've never seen footage, or heard the audio clip of him saying it.
He might have, I just feel that he has a little bit more class than to actually wish for Rovers demise.

He might have, I just feel that he has a little bit more class than to actually wish for Rovers demise. I vividly remember it. I had many of my red friends repeat it to me and seem to recall it being on YouTube but I can’t find it now. I’m sure a visit to OTIB would quickly find it. The man is a turncoat and, regardless of good done, I can’t stand those types.

I'll decline the invitation to search on OTIB, if you'll excuse me.

I think it was a match on Sky, City82 v someone else, and a propos of nothing, the Sky pre-match interviewer brought up the Rovers rivalry.
As I remember it, Lansdown's reply could just have been "why do you mention Rovers, they are nothing to do with us", but the actual words out of his mouth were "I don't think we'll have to worry about them". So there was a double meaning: either "it's irrelevant to the match you are about to televise" or "we intend to establish a dominant empire that will crush them out of existence and indeed will strain every sinew to achieve that end".

Green Eyed Monsters. :-)
Local lad did well, backed his city and local sport. Decided to retire to Guernsey with his equally nice wife. Well done Steve and when you pop over to Jersey again, drop into 1 The Esplanade and check on the owners of Bristol Rovers to see if we are in good health.

I know exactly what he meant with his comments. I had a couple of hours with him when he expressed his disappointment that when both clubs were in the 3rd tier at the same time, City supporters only appeared to care about how Rovers had got on and not that they were in the 3rd tier. He thought that they weren't setting their sights high enough and when they achieved promotion to the 2nd tier ands left us behind he mentioned that City fans wouldn't have to mention Rover again. He was more concerned about keeping up with the likes of Hull City and Brighton.

Oh some of their supporters are arseholes and he knows it. He did once use the phrase "I'm jealous of Rovers" and when prompted he mentioned both the supporters and our success in producing local talent.

One of the nice things about Mr Lansdown is that you have to work to find out which good causes he supports, he doesn't use his philanthropy as a badge of honour.
