UEFA thinks its a 'cynical project' , the Premier League think it 'attacks the principles of open competition and sporting merit' and that it will 'destroy fans dreams of climbing to the top and playing against the best'.
I think what they actually mean is 'Bloody hell, we were gonna do that'

Funny as anything.
PL are squealing like pigs.
Odd isn't it, they haven't given too much thought to the harm they've done to our national game, they don't care about fairness, if they did they would have expelled Citeh years ago, in what way is it fair for Fulham and Brighton to try to compete with a club funded by a country?
Just remember, when Scuddamore stepped down from his position they had a little whip round amongst the PL clubs to give him a going away present, you know the sort of thing, a £50 clock from the Argos catalogue. They made each PL club put £250,000, yep, a quarter of a million quid from each and every club, into the pot for him. Who the Hell do they think they are to even mention others being cynical and greedy!

If it hurts the Premier League and some of their clubs, I will give them as much sympathy as they did to other Football League clubs, when they pulled up the drawbridge in 1992.

It's worse than that Rex. They aren't done with us yet, they are still coming back, nibbling away, trying to alter competition formats, and it's not to benefit the likes of us or Walsall, that's for sure. Going back to that Scuddamore 'going away' gift from the PL 18 clubs, that totalled £4,500,000. Bury were wound up because of a £4,200,000 loan. Makes you feel physically unwell, doesn't it.

Clubs like Rovers wait cap-in-hand for the crumbs that trickle down from the PL, with this proposal even the crumbs and what little influence the FA/EFL have may be swept away. In that regard, this proposal will impact us. Personally, I'm with Gary Neville and hope the PL punishes them to hell. Something like chucking them out of the domestic competitions altogether, or: - Dock 50 points a season for joining the European Judas League; plus
- 3 points docked for every game they play in this elitist competition; plus
- No player who plays in the competition can represent their
country
Watching Man City and those other greed ridden clubs plummet down the leagues and playing at the Mem would be schadenfreude in the extreme.

Without them, how much interest would be left in the PL, especially in the far east where the huge money is? I don`t think it will happen. I think that by announcing this, the top six hope to extort ( even ) more money from the pot. They`ll get it too, one way or another.

I've deliberately put this one on the Rovers section,as it may well effect us.
I hate the idea of this ESL and suspect it might not happen.
The greedy big clubs will just end up getting more cash and the Champions League will continue as it is.
Oops! I see I'm behind the times again and a thread has began on the general football section.😏

On the contrary Basle - this could be our big opportunity. We establish a new South West Mediocrity League, do it double-quick before we're ejected from League One, exclude City, and invite star out-of-region outfits like Barrow, Concord Rangers, Medicine Hat 2nd Eleven, Taunton Ladies Embroidery Globetrotters, Mary Celeste Reserves and Luton Ludo Lewds to join. We can't go wrong. In no time everybody in Merthyr Tydfil Fochriw will be green with insouciance and thence it's only onwards and upwards.

Some of these "top 6" clubs have serious debts. I think that has more to do with it than anything else. Tottenham are nowhere near a top 6 finish in their shiny new stadium and Liverpool are hanging on by the skin of their teeth so it's laughable really. Vanity, greed and debt make poor bedfellows. I don't mind the CL because the football is generally good from a spectator perspective, but my interest wanes in the final stages when it's the same old clubs battling it out.

The going away gift was sickening. It should have been shouted about from the rooftops and been a source of shame that our national game was being run by such people , while at the same time our media make sneering jibes at '3rd world' countries FAs effectively taking bribes. There is no shame with being caught with your nose in the trough any more, that is just a sad fact of modern life.

Surely UEFA / national leagues haven't got the balls to actually follow through and punish these Clubs. If they did, it would massively damage their own revenue stream. Looks like a long drawn out episode where the 'big' Clubs will extort more money and control out of UEFA. One other point not discussed yet, that I can see. In the unlikely event that the ESL goes ahead, who gets the broadcasting deal? JP Morgan won't have got this far without that consideration. BT Sports / Sky would get a huge backlash. The ESL - brought to you by Amazon Prime or Netflix. I'm sick of the greed at the 'top'. I'm sick of my own Club. I have minimal interest in the national team. Basel, I agree. Maybe time to just walk away and support grass roots football.

BTW - Fair play to the German and French Clubs for saying 'nein', or 'non'.

Can't see Tottenham fans being happy at the prospect of finishing bottom of the league every year.

The '50+1' rule is an informal term used to refer to a clause in the regulations of the Deutsche Fußball-Liga.
The rule is designed to ensure that the club's members retain overall control, by way of owning 50% of shares, +1 share, protecting clubs from the influence of external investors.

Exactly. Hard to see Beijing or Hyderabad grinding to a halt on a Tuesday evening as dedicated followers flock to sports bars, desperate to see some team of hoofers managed by Big Sam battle out a dire 0-0 with Burnley. Whilst on Thursday an ESL match between Utd and Barca goes by under the radar. The power is with those clubs, and they know it.

I agree the hypocrisy shown by the EPL complaining of ESL greed, takes the biscuit.
Thing is though, the ESL may cause huge damage, alot more than the EPL.
I still don't see it actually happening.
