To me wearing a poppy is a freedom of choice. A freedom two of my great uncles died for and several of my family have fought for in the armed forces. I personally don't knock people who choose not to wear one. However that being said if you are going to be right in the public eye and you need to improve your reputation, in his position, I would have worn one. He would have used the pin as an offensive weapon Chesh. Best leave him be.

What had we done there. Won the Premier League? Stupid man, he really is. I notice he didn't bother wearing a poppy this morning at the Remembrance Day service. All round clueless. I’m not a Barton fan but it does this forum no good to knock him at every thing he does. i didn’t wear a poppy today when I stood silent at 11am. Does this make me clueless? If you were chief wreath layer at a War Memorial, yes.

I disagree with the poppy wearing fascism comment. The demographic appears to have changed, because some time ago it was perfectly legitimate not to wear a poppy and still be able to pay respects. Now, if poppy isn't worn 3 months before 11/11 at every point in public, it's commented on....when in reality the horrors of war have affected many families, some visible and direct, some not so much but the virtue signalling of (not) wearing a poppy is freedom of choice, extremely personal, and deserves neither applause nor comments of criticism. In my opinion...

Where is the fascism comment? I seem to have missed that.

No one is forced to wear or not wear a poppy.... people can choose either way without criticism, and pay their respects their own way.

I didn't mention fascism. I said he was clueless. Which he is.

Why comment on poppy wearing and drawing conclusion from it?

Commented on poppy wearing because I saw a pic of him at the wreath laying ceremony.
Concluded he was clueless long ago.

No, it doesn't make you clueless. Just a bit odd. I don't understand making the effort to attend a minutes silence, but not wear a poppy in remembrance of the war dead. I actually hadn't bought one this year. I was a bit ashamed. I bought one at about 10am and stuck it on my Union Berlin shirt and attended the minutes silence at Epping war Memorial. Millions died from both sides. A huge percentage of them didn't want to go to war. Lest we forget. So I’m a bit odd for not wearing my poppy which was on my other coat and where I am based I couldn’t buy one!! This is all about paying respect, it doesn’t matter what you look like or wear.

Absolutely. I have bought a poppy, however, if I forget to transfer it to my football coat tomorrow morning, it does not mean that I am showing less respect than somebody who happens to be wearing one.

If the poppy was blue and white quartered (obviously round the correct way), I think many more would be sold..

Both my grandads were slaughtered in WW1. Two of my uncles were consigned to their deaths in WW2. None of these innocent but ultimately brave men needed to die prematurely.
Perhaps next time the cowards at the top of this sick society, will do the fighting...
Anyway, these four martyrs wouldn't have given a flying fck if I wore a poppy or a fcking stick of celery.

In my opinion... There are other ways to show support. It’s not like the royal british legion even publicise the little help they do give, if you jump through hoops to get it. Dad used to get two cheques a year of 48 quid. My choice is different. I’ve never been a sheep but i respect others right to feel superior by wearing an old poppy from 10 years ago

DEAR OH DEAR OH DEAR...!? Some of you should really have a look at yourselves.. It appears from the pics at today's memorial, JAB wore a poppy pin badge (at 11 o'clock position to the club motif) that was Bristol Rovers/poppy. It can be clearly seen in pictures in link. Whilst we all understand objective criticism, fake news on a sensitive subject, at a sensitive time just comes across as tasteless. mobile.twitter.com/joey7barton

The 11 o'clock thing is a modern myth.
But if someone wants to wear their poppy in a certain way, because they personally feel it gives more meaning, then that's fine for them.

Hardly surprising it was difficult to spot. Personally I don't like any of the modern things they produce - for me the traditional poppy is what we should stick with and I'd never wear anything else. Especially the dangly things people hang from their handbags. But each to his own. And those who choose not to wear any sort of poppy in everyday life don't bother me. It's just the old line used to be "Wear your poppy with pride". A teeny weeny pin badge doesn't cut it for me. Do it properly or not at all is my maxim in life. (Having said which, I clearly didn't look at the pic properly. Note to self - in future don't look at pics of Barton. Won't be difficult to stick to that one )

Trying to own our Poppy culture and all it represents, to have yet another go at Bristol Rovers manager. That's a poor show. Is'nt it.
