I've been embarrassed by Bristol Rovers before.
The Higgs sackings and relegations were bad.
The Al Qadi sackings are similarly humiliating.
But I have never been ashamed before.
Appointing Joey Barton as manager is way worse.
I am truly ashamed to be a Rovers supporter.
We are not the greatest club in the league.
We have never been in the top division.
I do not really believe that we ever will.
But we had some dignity, decency, and respect.
Wael Al Qadi might not know what he's doing.
But I thought these things mattered to him.
I thought he was someone who had such values.
Joey Barton is unfit to manage Bristol Rovers.
He has to be removed from our football club.
Until that time, I will not be supporting.
I want nothing to do with this disgrace.
I intend this to be my only Gas Guzzler thread. I rejoined Bristol Rovers Independent Fans Forum at gasheads.org because members here have taken final and decisive stands against this criminal disgrace, withdrawing their support in principle; and while I too refuse to support Bristol Rovers at this time, I know that we will be here long after Joey Barton and even Wael Al Qadi are gone, even if they have overseen the final destruction of Bristol Rovers Football Club.

I feel exactly the same, won't attend, won't give a penny to the club until this is resolved, won't be seen in public wearing anything that associates me with the club, but won't quit the forum over this.
If we all went to ground entirely all that would be left voicing opinion are people who support what's happened, or people too cowardly to say what they know to be the truth, that this bloke is a nasty piece of work and a ticking time bomb.
Stay, join in conversations, continue to remind Wael that he's got this horribly wrong.

So far we have a 25 to 1 ratio of votes cast wanting those involved removed from Rovers Vs 1 lone voice saying that we are moaning on a bit.
BTW, as Mr Punchy took training on Monday morning I'm struggling a bit with Widdrington claiming after Saturday's latest defeat that he had no idea who was incoming.

Today. Relegation out the league was very, very hard to stomach. It was incompetence by Higgs & the gang, but it wasn't deliberate. And we recovered within a year. The appointment of Barton - is a deliberate action by an idiot of an owner who is very clearly miles out of his depth. It is a self-inflicted wound. The rest of the Board are cowards for not standing up for what is right. They just care about their pay checks. They are not Gasheads. They do not have the best interests of the Club at heart. This aberration will take far longer for the Club to recover from. I fear that even if this is not part of the destruction of Bristol Rovers, and somehow new ownership news comes this October, then we will remember this day, 22nd February 2021, as the day we gave up our dignity and integrity. To those unhappy with the above poll, it's not to assess support for and against Barton's appointment. It's to weigh up whom Gas Guzzlers want out of Bristol Rovers the most. Manager Barton, before he has even lost a single game, or displaced a single tooth, from the very day of his sordid appointment, is already alienating more of us than Football Director Widdrington (who recruited the failing large but unbalanced squad before undermining and blaming a new incoming manager) and Chief Executive Starnes (only here having benefited from simple patronage) and even President Al Qadi (who has managed to sack two managers already only twenty-eight league games into this season). That takes some infamy. |

If you had a clean slate and were looking to assemble a crack team to give you success in league one with a remit of working within a budget constraint whilst being competitive and you have to identify the best players and managers available to you to make that happen, which clubs would you be looking at to poach expertise from? Would any of Wael, Widdrington and Starnes be even in the top 10 for each of their respective positions from all the league one clubs? Wael might scrape in there because of his deep pockets but he doesn’t have much footballing sense and couldn’t pick a manager to save his life. It’s just a complete Poundland set up who would struggle to find work at other league one clubs. Yet it seems perfectly good enough for Rovers. We need a clean broom. Previously I was behind Wael clearing out the board (bar Gorringe) and starting again but his appointment of Barton makes me think we need a competent alternative to him as well as the others- but we’ve no chance of finding one because of cost and reading between the lines he won’t give the club up without a fight. Anyway, I’ve had enough. Not my circus not my monkeys anymore. I really enjoyed the conference season and the season in league two under Clarkey, we had some real momentum, we were on the up. We’re so far from that now and it’s hard to take that we have to be grateful to one man for paying the bills and keeping the club running when at the same time he is destroying it by running it in an amateur fashion. I shall leave Wael to meddle with his plaything and think of the times when I stood/sat in the wind and rain at s**t holes like Milton Keynes and Crawley long before Wael had even heard of Rovers. |

The Duck Is Back!! Welcome home Shoveler.  Thanks, Trotsky. I'm back on this thread only. I'm back in solidarity with decent Guzzlers appalled by the Barton appointment, a number of whom won't support his Bristol Rovers. Al Qadi recruiting this little psychopath outweighed my tiredness with Mike Jay and I calling each other names. I can't wait for Joey Barton's departure from Bristol Rovers, when hopefully we'll all be able to attend matches together again. Good health, Sir. |

It's a measure of relative disgust towards Manager, Football Director, CEO, and President. It indicates that in the Manager's first twenty-four hours, more who voted want him out than any of the other three - almost more than the other three added together, despite the option of voting for more than one of them! I don't know that any managerial appointment has disgusted so many supporters to such a degree that they refuse to support. I care what you think, though, so I will remove it. Let me know what else you disapprove of. |

I've deleted the poll, Sir. I really think you've missed the point it indicated, but then again, who cares? I care rather more that a number of Gas Guzzlers want nothing at all to do with Bristol Rovers while that violent little brat is manager.
You wrote a compelling piece about that on the other thread. Many points you made I agreed with. But I consider a managerial appointment that has this effect on other gasheads to be indefensible. I want all gasheads back in five-figures, but while this disgrace remains, I won't be there.
While I sincerely hope you enjoy supporting Rovers in the meantime, I wish for nothing that will prolong Barton's tenure, and everything that will hasten his departure. I'll be back then, but until that time, this one thread is where I have built my nest, and I'm going nowhere until Barton is removed from Bristol.
Perhaps the criminal justice system may help with this?

Of course it's the non Joey 'fans' that are in full on 'disapproval ' mode.Rovers/WAQ has made a decision.That's it. For me it's to a certain extent easier. On the one hand I am aware of the mental health effects on victims of bullies.Destructive.On the other hand,there is apart of me quite enjoying Rovers/WAQ apparent lack of pc wokeness,or as I suspect,he just ain't bothered by it. I hope this kind of 'cancel culture' against our new manager,before even one game, fails. I would say accept El Presidentes opinion,"calm down""calm down" (could'nt resist) and cheer Rovers on tonight. The Wigan Ath game is a real relegation episode. |
