They say even a stopped clock is right twice a day. J.o.e.y Barton and the boneheads who adore him are half right regarding Eni Aluko. She's a rubbish broadcaster, on that we can agree. But this has nothing to do with her being black or female, and it's purely racism and sexism that fuels all abuse of her. In truth she's rubbish because she's not mature, bright, nor educated, like most naturally gifted male players. Definitely not educated. Well, apart from the 1st in Law from Brunel, some further legal training, consultancy experience at Slaughter and May and a few other bits with top drawer legal firms So probably not bright either And at age 37, with executive experience in sport in the UK and US, and an MBE, she’s probably not very mature either. Certainly not by the standards of debate on this forum

This thread typifies todays society , get offended about everything , it’s fair enough if you don’t like Barton , but to go on some moral crusade is embarrassing If you don’t like what someone says give them a mouthful back , and it’s even more embarrassing watching all the happy clapping / high giving over vine suing 🙄🙄🙄going on . As for the women commentator, I agree with Barton , these women haven't got a bloody clue , it’s pitiful listening to them , I don’t now , switch it straight off these days . I hate to think what stupid idea there going to come up with next in the name of diversity, inclusion & god knows what else Thank god for Barton who does it old school , says it as it is . J o s e p h continues to make good points. It might do his cause good if eg, ,he did'nt say somebody 'talks s**t' and they 'must be bumming someone at the BBC to of got the job',but rather said eg,'I could'nt disagree more' or 'I would like to hear just why this person got the job at the BBC'.Etc. As said J o s e p h makes good points and thousands of football fans agree with him. Thousands. Take a look at a 'shock horror' B arton reports on social media, where the tone of his voice and his manner has upset some people. His actual point can get mislaid in the melee of right on sensibilities crumbling, but check the comments section.90% upwards agree with our excellent former Managers point. J o s e p h is entitled to his point of view, all he needs to work on is his delivery.

Certainly not by the standards of debate on this forum Wow, I stand corrected, I seem to have muddled her up with another footballer. Is all of that true? Then there's other reasons she's such a mess as a broadcaster, because she really is, and hides the education really well! Executive experience and an MBE are less relevant, though. Plenty of immature morons sadly boast these. The examples of appalling male commentators make my point entirely, though. Lots of talented footballers who've played at top flight clubs, are the most stupid and unlistenable broadcasters. Lots of footballers are idiots. Really lots. Barton and his foolish fanclub tolerate the white male idiots perfectly well.

Further to the above, I just read the Wikipedia page to which my dear AMPG's rebuttal paid such close attention, superficially at least. You overpromote her, AMPG. Her degree followed her playing for England (hence my not knowing it). All of the executive stuff and the gong were given to her name and profile as a top class footballer, not achieved by nor a measure of education, intellect, or maturity. She's not the sharpest.

I did get the detail from wiki, but I was already aware of her legal background Her intelligence and character came to my intention when she sat before something like a Parliamentary Select Committee. She was being questioned, but she held that room. It’s worth seeing - if you do, tell me after that if you think she’s bright or not Regarding most footballers, who are just young men, there’s no reason to think they’d be any brighter or more articulate than, say, your average 25 year old. I know a very bright fella (PhD etc) who has met them reasonably often at after- match dinners and meet-and-greets with fans. He always finds that they have very little of interest to say - but it’s hardly surprising given their youth and the fact that they work with their bodies

I think you know as well as I do that footballers are on average quite obviously stupider than the average twenty-five year old, and for many of us also far less interesting to listen to. In the majority of cases, they remain almost as dull upon retirement from playing. I think you're either starstruck, AMPG, or inclined toward the benefit of the doubt because this one's subject to awful racism and misogyny.

I don't think so - I think I saw someone hold both her ground and the room, to everyone's astonishment given their/our very low expectations I'm not saying she's a great pundit, though I do remember Gary Lineker presenting a football show at 4am when he first started. He was unbelievably awful, but I'm guessing that pre-internet slot was the largely dark corner in which he could learn the job I've only seen Ellen White once as a pundit, doing a bit at half-time, but I thought she might turn out to be good at it

Which in terms of education probably puts her above 98% of people on this forum

It's not mallardy to know that her 'doctorate' is nothing of the sort. It's an honorary doctorate given for activism and celebrity, for zero academic work. As worthless as the MBE. If you find her interesting, then you're welcome to persevere, but nobody else does. A minority of footballers are worth interviewing. A smaller minority of those have the capacity for broadcasting. Those should get the TV and radio jobs.

You're right that it's honorary, so not the real deal (like Jezza Clarkson's in Engineering) Having said that the University of Law put the following.... Alumna Eniola Aluko played football for England’s Women’s Team and studied her LPC at ULaw’s Moorgate campus before qualifying as a solicitor in 2015. She was at the forefront of multiple whistleblowing reports in 2016 and 2017. It was decided that Eniola’s manager had racially abused her and one of her teammates and, while it ended her England football career, she has since been part of the FA’s recommendations with UK Sport to build whistleblowing procedures. “It’s nearly 10 years since I completed my LPC at the University - although it feels like yesterday. It was challenging at the time as it was an accelerated course and I completed it just before I went to the London 2012 Olympics to play for the England Women’s Football Team, which was an incredible experience. “After that I went on to work for two sports and entertainment law firms and then Slaughter and May and put all that legal training into practice. I also find my legal skills incredibly useful in my current role as Sporting Director.

You keep proving me right. Her Personal Statement above illustrates no substance. She's a lucky woman, having football talent. She's a brave activist, sticking up for herself against institutionalised prejudice and corruption. That's all I can see. She's repeatedly rubbish as a TV football pundit, which is seized upon by racists and misogynists like Barton and his followers. But she's not very good.
