I'm on holiday in Paignton and just catching up on the news. A bit shocked to be honest, but after listening to yesterdays' match and what he said afterwards I was thinking how much longer can this go on...
Let's hope the new owners have a cunning plan...

This was the thread that I chose best fit for today. I've been off the forum since Scunny for a small cameo, and before that for a while since a 2-1 win v Northampton funnily enough. Thanks JB for the best of you, I won't miss the worst of you. Worst Treatment of Luke Thomas. Press comments that gave Rovers poor publicity. Treatment of Luke McCormick. Treatment of James Belshaw. Personal comments about opposition players or management. 2 court cases. Example to kids of poor treatment of match officials. Being sent off v Sheff Wed and banned. Criticism of Portsmouth. Missing out on JCH, unforgiveable. On your watch. Issues in the dressing room being discussed in public, poor man management, please learn from that in your next job. Treatment of Max Ehmer. Taking us down. On your watch. Pressers where it was ok to lose 61 times. Too easy to lose. Best End on a positive. Thanks for all the good publicity we had. All the brilliant signings of people who would run through brick walls for Rovers. Finley, Coutts, Taylor, Belshaw, Collins, Anderton, Anderson, Anderson, Coburn, Evans, Marquis. And many more. I will never forget Rochdale away, the best game I have ever been to. I will never forget 7th May 2022. Walsall away. Port Vale away was mental. The motivational speeches. The Close Quarters vids Charlton away this season. All the stuff with Nick Anderton. The haircut videos. The improvement in the standard of football. The fact that we were horrible and everyone hated us. The sell out games. The good publicity that came from your time with us. It nearly worked. It's a shame. But ultimately, it's the right decision. Thanks and lets draw a line and move on. UTG I respect the balanced response. And good to see you back. But (it's me, there's always a but)... Best "The fact that we were horrible and everyone hated us." Really? I loathed the fact (well my perception and experience) that other supporters dis-liked and ridiculed Bristol Rovers. The number of comments on BBC HYS typified this. Other Clubs supporters really wanted to see Rovers relegated. Look at the general comments here www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67230075How about this one: "A sad day for Bristol City FC". Attempting to be a Poundshop version of Millwall turned my stomach. Hopefully the reputational damage the Club has suffered can be repaired.

I really like Mango’s post and Epping’s response.
Agree totally with the latter that I do not want us to be disliked by fans of other clubs apart from the 82ers Swindle and the Lightning Cheats.

Just to add to my point, when coaching kids I never wanted the opposition to rock up and like playing Mangotsfield, I wanted us to be horrible to play against. Not by fouling but by being hard to beat. Tough, aggressive, but not nasty. Just Tough. Rovers under Barton had their share of players sent off for a stupid elbow a la Finley, Coutts and Woods, but generally teams didn't look forward to playing Bartons version, whereas we were a soft touch before he arrived under Tisdale and Garner. That's why it comes under Best. I want Rovers to look the part on and off the pitch, which is why the season ticket stuff, the stand, the stadium etc is embarrassing but nothing to do with Joe, who to be fair, brought in people to try and make us think bigger. He drove me crazy when he said things that he didn't need to, when I was one of his biggest defenders, because I knew we were going in the right direction. I love Oasis but can't stand Liam Gallagher. He doesn't have to be perfect or even nice, just win. It's such a shame, but his sacking is his fault as was the promotion in May 2022. This year I have read his book. There is so much going on with him, but he will not help himself when it comes to self destructing. Believe me, he is better now than he was, he was only sent off once for us. A bit gutted, but we move on. I don't want Holden just for the record.

Some managers are likeable people but rubbish managers, in this case, i can't see too many people liking Joey as a person, especially for his past misdemeanours, but he was in charge of our club so we have to like it or lump it. I love Oasis, but their lead singer was a knob, didn't stop me loving their music.

Some fans want a respectable character that can be a positive role model at what is a local club. Someone they’d be happy for their children to look up to. I may be naive but I think a good manager can be a good human too. Joey wasn’t.

I guess there is a difference between "tough to beat" and "horrible". The latter implies the elbows, lack of discipline, the post match gobs**tery. If teams didn't like playing Rovers because they were tough to beat - fair enough. Though a Barton PPG of 1.04 in League 1 rather implies they were easy to beat. I care what other Clubs supporters feel about Rovers. I am surrounded by Spuds, Arse, Wham and O's fans. Loathed and ridiculed is what we were under Barton. But that thing has now gone. As you say, we move on.

Gerry Mk1 and Coughlan were the best managers i can remember in this respect

Glad he has gone and hope the new owners prove to be better at appointing managers than Wael has been

To be fair Barton leaves with a 100% win rate. If you take away the games where the officials had it in for Rovers, and the games where players played deliberately badly - JAB won every game. A tactical genius who will be sorely missed.
Happy Friday.

We did lose 61 times under him and I had had enough after last weekend. For some reason I expected better. I was sick of defending him when the team just allowed Burton too easily to win. Whereas there were times even last and this season where that wouldn't have happened.

Ifs buts and maybes, but we should be 10 pts better off this season, and that's his fault.

It was starting to click. We are only 4 games back from beating Wigan 4-1. Seems like ages ago now.
