Every time Barton blames the officials or one of his own players for a loss - this gets bumped to the top.

At www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/joey-barton-kevin-keegan-england-women-b2425126.html, I read what Keegan said, apparently in Bristol, and while I do not agree with him personally, it is not the worst thing a former giant of English football has ever said, praising the calibre of female football journalism, and the women's game itself. But Barton's brainless social media response was just embarrassing, and a dog whistle to his misogynistic fanbase's shabby prejudices.

Have to say that I stopped watching FF due to the change and maybe, with me at least, it;s more a case of enjoying what was familiar. Make no bones about it i don’t want JB but I do not now watch any games when the panel has a woman anchor. It’s just my preference. Barton can’t just leave it at that. though

But Barton's brainless social media response was just embarrassing, and a dog whistle to his misogynistic fanbase's shabby prejudices. The problem is that the language Keegan used is so outdated sexist and demeaning it makes it very difficult to see beyond this. I really dislike Vicki Sparks’ commentary but this has nothing to do with her gender and everything to do with her screechy voice and the way she delivers commentary. It’s the aural equivalent of nails scraped down a blackboard. Equally there are male commentators whose voice has me reaching for the off button too - the nasal whine and insider jokiness of Mark Chapman being a case in point Excellent article here if anyone does not understand why women might take offence at Keegan inews.co.uk/opinion/ever-ok-call-women-ladies-demeaning-sexist-dark-ages-2665494Barton though can’t help himself but offer an opinion that he knows will court controversy on a topic that is none of his business He would have done better to have kept his thoughts to himself as he would on lotsbof other subjects

I don't disagree, but whoever commentates or presents, is best partnered by a pundit or match summariser who's played the game being covered, in my opinion. I'd hate to see a women's match without the expertise of a women footballer who's played (ideally) at that level, just as with the men's games. No reason not to partner men with women: for one thing, male broadcasters get less* intolerably laddish and sexist when they're mixed with women. I've most experience of Test Match Special and Today at the Test, both of which are hugely improved by the arrival of Ebony Rainford Brent and Isa Guha, and certain departures.
* EDIT: crucial missing 'less' added to make the sentence fit (not entirely negate) what I meant. Of course mixing men with women more often makes men better, not worse.

I sort of agree but would say that I think you can be a good commentator without having played the sport. I especially liked John Motson and Henry Blofeld. Agree totally about Isa Guha and E R-B - both excellent

Of course mixing men with women more often makes men better, not worse. There is plenty of medical evidence that men need man time too though my friend. I have suffered, on and off, with depression for many years and it was my GP who gave me this information and literature to back it up. I guess that, with me at least, I do not like anything that is forced upon me, that is just my nature. A question for you, do you think women’s football would do well as a stand alone product ? The various media outlets have been pushing the game for a good while now plus while subsidising games, big time. I also find it a bit odd that we are not having this conversation about other sports. We have the Rugby World Cup in play and not a woman panellist in sight. Personally, I miss my ritual of Saturday morning football TV and , I really have tried to warm to the female presenters but I end up just turning it off. To be truly equal I think that there are enough women’s games for them to be commentating on but, again I repeat, this is just my own preference. Yes, I talk with a few women in the ground, when I still attended but it was a time for me to be inappropriate and have a laugh with my friends

Very similar to Wael and Barton isn’t it. It makes me shudder when fans say they think Barton is deliberately building a team that plays a style of football which will enable it to compete in the Championship when it gets there! There’s no doubting the sincerity of those holding this point of view but to me it’s a sign of the brainwashing power which the manager can exert. Haven’t they looked at the team sheet and seen the number of players in our starting eleven who are either on loan or who are at the end of their careers and have had to drop down from the Championship because they are no longer up to it? Most of them won’t be here next season whatever happens. As Steptoe says, we are seeing a sh*t or bust attempt to get Rovers promoted this season and prove Barton can manage with no thought given to the consequences for the club if it fails. If it fails? What do you mean, if? Barton's a proven loser. | P | Division(s) | W | D | L | W% | W/L | W-L | DC | 246 | 4th to 5th to 4th to 3rd | 104 | 56 | 86 | 42% | 1.209 | +18 | GC | 56 | 3rd | 25 | 18 | 13 | 45% | 1.923 | +12 | BG | 33 | 3rd | 6 | 10 | 17 | 18% | 0.353 | -11 | PT | 19 | 3rd | 5 | 3 | 11 | 26% | 0.455 | -6 | JB | 142 | 3rd to 4th to 3rd | 53 | 29 | 60 | 37% | 0.883 | -7 |

For his post-match comments alone. Barton is unfit to manage Bristol Rovers.

Thanks Angas. I've been accused of hyperbole regarding Barton before so I will describe this interview moderately. It's undignified, and suggests Joey Barton is unfit to manage Bristol Rovers.

Is Ched Evans fit to manage Bristol Rovers? Change the thread title, or new thread?
All over the popular social media formerly known as Twitter, that it was decided this morning to bring Ched Evans in as Player Manager.
Anyone got a problem with this? Any more strops and staying away?

I've been embarrassed by Bristol Rovers before. The Higgs sackings and relegations were bad. The Al Qadi sackings are similarly humiliating. But I have never been ashamed before. Appointing Joey Barton as manager is way worse. I am truly ashamed to be a Rovers supporter. We are not the greatest club in the league. We have never been in the top division. I do not really believe that we ever will. But we had some dignity, decency, and respect. Wael Al Qadi might not know what he's doing. But I thought these things mattered to him. I thought he was someone who had such values. Joey Barton is unfit to manage Bristol Rovers. He has to be removed from our football club. Until that time, I will not be supporting. I want nothing to do with this disgrace. I intend this to be my only Gas Guzzler thread. I rejoined Bristol Rovers Independent Fans Forum at gasheads.org because members here have taken final and decisive stands against this criminal disgrace, withdrawing their support in principle; and while I too refuse to support Bristol Rovers at this time, I know that we will be here long after Joey Barton and even Wael Al Qadi are gone, even if they have overseen the final destruction of Bristol Rovers Football Club. The original post on page 1...OMG, This thread could be closed down now after 187 pages.

Who else have you got on your “staying away list”? This woke cancelling of football manager after manager not getting a bit daft now?

This was the thread that I chose best fit for today.
I've been off the forum since Scunny for a small cameo, and before that for a while since a 2-1 win v Northampton funnily enough.
Thanks JB for the best of you, I won't miss the worst of you.
Worst Treatment of Luke Thomas. Press comments that gave Rovers poor publicity. Treatment of Luke McCormick. Treatment of James Belshaw. Personal comments about opposition players or management. 2 court cases. Example to kids of poor treatment of match officials. Being sent off v Sheff Wed and banned. Criticism of Portsmouth. Missing out on JCH, unforgiveable. On your watch. Issues in the dressing room being discussed in public, poor man management, please learn from that in your next job. Treatment of Max Ehmer. Taking us down. On your watch. Pressers where it was ok to lose 61 times. Too easy to lose.
Best End on a positive. Thanks for all the good publicity we had. All the brilliant signings of people who would run through brick walls for Rovers. Finley, Coutts, Taylor, Belshaw, Collins, Anderton, Anderson, Anderson, Coburn, Evans, Marquis. And many more. I will never forget Rochdale away, the best game I have ever been to. I will never forget 7th May 2022. Walsall away. Port Vale away was mental. The motivational speeches. The Close Quarters vids Charlton away this season. All the stuff with Nick Anderton. The haircut videos. The improvement in the standard of football. The fact that we were horrible and everyone hated us. The sell out games. The good publicity that came from your time with us.
It nearly worked. It's a shame. But ultimately, it's the right decision.
Thanks and lets draw a line and move on.
