Think this thread is way off topic now! Agreed. The lack of progress on physical infrastructure at the Mem (or god forbid a new Stadium) is nothing to do with Barton. Ironically it's that lack of "a plan" from our owners that could well see Barton frustrated and leaving the Club.

Unfit to manage Bristol Rovers, certainly.

So, a thumping at those giants of the north west. Morecambe ffs. 5-1. Does Barton accept any responsibility? Does he deflect any criticism from the players? Does he try and protect the players, take some of the heat? Does he take the defeat on the chin and look on how to improve? Will he learn from this humiliation?
Will he f*ck. Time to chuck his mates under the bus, and I quote: "If I had my way, I’d make the players pay for their tickets and their travel because that was an embarrassing performance from our players. Do they deserve to be paid? I wouldn’t pay you if you turned up and did a job in my house and did it to the standard of some of our boys today. I’d be chucking you out of the house and never allowing you back in and you certainly wouldn’t be getting a pound note off me. But that’s the beauty of football, isn’t it? The lads get paid regardless. They have got the PFA and all that to protect them for those reasons, but based on output, I wouldn’t have paid some of our lads the money they are getting paid for that performance because it was unacceptable. You expect the mistakes and those decisions to be made from lads who are 19 and making their league debut, not lads who are a few hundred games into their careers and in their 30s," he said.
Those players must be bursting with pride that the manager has really got their back. This is going to be just great for team morale. I'm sorry @chewbacca , "Bozo" is far too kind a word to describe this cretin.

How many of the players who didn't deserve to be paid were signed by Barton?

How many of the players who didn't deserve to be paid were signed by Barton? Would you prefer him to say that all players were fantastic today, just because he signed them?

I'd rather he simply admitted that his team selection, set up, tactics and substitutions were all wrong and thus he was responsible for this debacle. More chance of stumbling on a field of Brexit unicorns though.

I would prefer the manager to say whatever he wants. Behind closed doors. Publicly Barton should shoulder some of the blame. Keep the post-match interview short, let people know that he's fuming, and sort it out with the squad away from the media. Because that's what a 'proper' manager would do. We haven't got one.

He is not a L1/L2 manager for many reasons and his lofty ideas will not have the backing with signings of the quality he’d like and he keeps comparing us to prem and top European clubs too. Just too much going on in his head and not building a true representation of Bristol Rovers. I like ambition but realistic ambition and not pie in the sky nonsense , which he seems to excel at. Tactics, set up and game management are not great either. As I said, I can actually see him walking if we carry on in this vein. We saw how stroppy he can get when he gave up, in the relegation season

After a stuffing like yesterday's its predictable that the 'Barton outers' will be here in force,to be fair to Barton it wasnt the same when Rovers were getting good results in a difficult looking October....my question is why have things changed on the pitch since then ?
One thing that I would question about Barton as a manager is when he says things like "we need to bring 5 or 6 in",I know thats for the supporters but how does it make the players feel ? People will say that as professional sportsmen they should rise to the challenge and play for their place but I wonder if in reality some think "oh,I will be gone soon so I cant be arsed".

Whether any of this can be credited to JB, or maybe it's the way Coutts and Finley run the dressing room - they are very much knitted together as a group.

People will say that as professional sportsmen they should rise to the challenge and play for their place but I wonder if in reality some think "oh,I will be gone soon so I cant be arsed". Again, another thing that could really unsettle any team, it just seems that since he made those statements, the team have lost and badly to relegation threatened teams and look a pale shadows of the team we can be, many are saying it’s due to Rossiter being unfit to play but i think Joe needs to sometimes draw a deep breath and think before he talks. He seems to enjoy the sound of his own voice and importance, something that was laid at me but on school reports. I do sometimes wonder about his elevated level of self esteem as a truly intelligent and well read person has no need to keep telling people of it. I do not hate him, hate is a very strong and overused word but i do not like what he did and the background of people he has surrounded himself by. There is only Wael to challenge or rebut but i do wonder if he is strong enough to tell JB what his opinion is, one thing is for sure, if we carry on like this then Wael will be backed into a corner and i doubt Barton would let it get to to that point, he would walk first and then we could, potentially, be a big trouble as the entire back room and even higher ups, are his men, seems like TG and Wael are the only ones that could challenge, it should never have got to this but here we are, thing is, a win and the anti Barton, anti Barton people will be on both places, saying what they thunk of comments like mine. I have always been concerned about the amount of sway JB has been given, it’s just silly and also very dangerous, high risk can have high pay off but, conversely, also be very dangerous, we would be looking for an entire back room as well as manager. His best mate leaving was my first sign of a deeper problem. We need a team that can build up, together, knowing that most will be here next season. It’s football 101, a bonded team will play out of their skin. Loans will try to impress, Barton is taking big gambles. Whether we come back from this or not, i feel some things need addressing or it will be a new project, every season. As always, i always want Rovers to thrive. My opinion on the manager is not my driving force but building a decent and grounded team is. We are not doing that right now

Some of the credit for that has to go to Barton and he also does have an eye for a good player. He has brought in the likes of Coutts Finley and Whelan so deserves credit for that too and I’ve no doubt they are also helping create the sense of togetherness in the squad. However I don’t think he gets the best out of what he has at his disposal, overthinks and overcomplicates things. When he stops meddling as he did in the second half of last season we look near invincible. He is not as good as he thinks he is but could be if he put brain in gear before shooting his mouth off

He had a get out of jail free card but didn't use it. When I saw them playing that snail's pace tiki taka possession football in their own half I naturally assumed they'd been instructed to do so to protect the new players who'd been tossed into the fray - the Liverpool 19-year-old in particular. Instead he chose to hang them out in public in his usual blame-throwing way. I don't for one minute think they played like that on their own initiative, but if they did, it indicates that he's beginning to lose it.

Coutts was utter toilet on Saturday. At fault for at least 2 of the goals and hes been utter toilet for weeks and nowhere near L1 level, hes lost the engine and legs to drive him through games and isnt quick enough to see the killer pass playing the press tactics we like to employ. Gibbons is another one who is just massively disappointing lacking pace and vision. Evans and Finleys game is being nullified due to the limitation with Coutts. Barton is a good coach and tactically astute most of the time but once the players cross the white line its down to them and on Saturday only Jarell, Sincs and Collins came out with any credit whatsoever. The only thing I do question is dropping Belshaw and for that he should be critiscised because of all the problems we have, he isnt one of them IMO.

The only thing I do question is dropping Belshaw and for that he should be critiscised because of all the problems we have, he isnt one of them IMO. That’s simply not true. Coutts was only on the field for first 3 goals. The only one he had any part in is the first where he oddly stops tracking the lad who scored. Even then it was a routine save and Belly between the sticks likely no goal. Second looks like Coburn flicks ball on. Their lad completely miss hits ball which wrong foots everyone including Connolly who perhaps should have done better. 3rd is down to Sincs losing it in a really poor place. Sinclair was as bad as anyone on the day and was also hoiked on the hour mark - deservedly but he is a good 5 yards too deep in my view so carries no end product. Set up and shape has got to be down to Barton. I don’t see the evidence fr him being s good coach and/or tactically astute. He recruits well but his meddling and overthinking result in him getting less than the sum of the parts at his disposal. When he kept it simple with minimal changes in the second half of the season we looked capable of beating anyone

Oh and 69% of possession is a pretty decent platform for the flair players to do their stuff. That was due in no small part to. Coutts and Finley in the middle
