Rex said...."Over the river, Lansdown, despite his massive investments, has still been criticised, mostly for his loyalty to Johnson and his refusal to splash even more cash than he already has, and I have a horrible feeling how that one will end."
I think Lansdown strategy is sell a few in the Summer, sign a few at the start of season.Keeps things relatively financially balanced. Then City stay within the 10th to 7th positions. One season, one good season, maybe one in twenty will see them promoted. Then the tv lucre comes in and Burnley have showed clubs of their size what to do.
Steve Lansdown seems extremely sussed out to me.

THD, I believe, was/is on a per game played contract plus his expenses for living. I seem to remember DC saying that but, as always, I could be wrong but I think it’s very clear that the current owner is not prepared to push us on

In total agreement. The he’s a nice bloke thing doesn’t sit well with me either as he has blocked a good many, on twitter, myself included and only for asking fairly normal questions. I asked permission to do a bucket collection for the young lad, Bailey Cooper’s family as I know they have a fairly big family and am very aware of cost of funerals. That got me blocked. I think he had good intentions & thought he’d solve everything by buying expert opinion. He really has got himself into a huge mess & I am reconciled that 3rd tier will be our level, at best. I don’t dislike him but he is out of his depth

I just wished he would have blocked off those idiots on twitter who convinced him to give DC a 5 year contract in this day and age, that cost the club a shed full.

Now I've been told - and I believe - how WAQ told DC ,just before he was about to hopefully sign players for our first season back in the 3rd tier, that the cash you were told you were getting, well you ain't anymore. WAQ has been a thorough disappointment, especially when considering the 'trumpet fanfare' that accompanied his arrival. A scenario that would see me having to 'reconcile' myself to 3rd tier at best may be too much.Once the dream is dead, then what's the point.Something I'm having to consider.

You spend your money. Be patient as the manager builds a team/squad. See them blossom into serious challengers. Then what? Pray the owner does'nt shoot the manager in the back as we move forward to what could be glory. It's just not good enough.

May I add to the charge list, our record internal / external debt not helped by 3 years of costs from our essential London office..Whilst I accept that some of the costs incurred were there to improve the match day experience did we really need premiership style padded seats in some parts of the stadium and meet and greet dolly birds in the west stand? If financial resources are limited we needed much tighter control of our expenditure

Coughlan's Ipswich outburst was a total brain numbing shocker in a season that up to that precise moment showed great promise, we don't have that many high's, and not being allowed to savour that historic win, still, damn well haunts me. If we ever go on a decent run again, I will have one eye on the league table and the other awaiting the imminent arrival of the Gas collapsing clown car.

1.On Graham Coughlans departure. Confidently and without hesitation I was told the Board told GC 4 players were not to be played past a number of games that would trigger a years extension to their Rovers employment.Absolutely handicapping the man at a time when support could have seen us go up. this is the closest thing I've seen to an explanation for his post-match outburst at Ipswich There were rumours that he was on the phone asking for his job back the following morning. It seems very unlikely in light of this

I had wanted to go to the game but it was the work Xmas night out. Almost to a man our place is Gas and we met up at about 4 in town, we were pretty much glued to our phones waiting to see if we could hold on for the win and when we did we were ecstatic. Phones were put down and we got on with having a great night, much of it taken up with talk about promotion. It wasn't until the following evening I found out about GC's post match interview and I can honestly say it was one of the lowest moments I've had supporting Rovers. I really thought that the old defying the odds type of Rovers team was back, maybe another Gerry Francis type era. Still, at least it made for a good night out.

The Gerry Francis Twerton Heroes mk II comparison is absolutely spot on Rex. It was there to see for those watching the games with an open mind, rather than sulking because it was'nt 'pretty'. It was actually beautiful! We won midfield battles. We bullied the opposition.A defence and GK to be proud of.An intelligent brute of a striker that scored goals.Individually average players became good.Good becoming very good and these improving players knew their jobs perfectly well and how it fitted into the team. It had all the hallmarks of a team growing confidence and the self belief they can challenge for promotion. Graham Coughlan is one of the best managers Rovers have ever had.He did a magnificent job. It really is a bitter pill to swallow. Too much.

I'm sorry you have had your worst fears confirmed Basel but the same thing happened to me at the start of the year. After my barrage of posts about the potential for progress via the Fruit Market plan I was contacted by many people with inside knowledge and their stories were and are incredibly consistent. It does all stem back to Wael who has been fortunate enough to have had a privileged upbringing and inherited substantial wealth but does not appear to understand how much damage he is capable of doing to Rovers.

If he knew how to run a business, he would still be part of the Arab Jordan Investment Bank. It's all down to ego with him. Clown comes to mind.

Apparently stuck with him Swiss. An owner that I now suspect does not want promotion to the 2nd tier. Is he a breed of owner that would'nt put up much of a fight against eg Chelsea Seconds playing in the 3rd tier? It really looks bad.No,bland.Dull.Stuck.
