That's total career stats. Eintracht signed him from a French third division side for free. He changed the World Cup Final when he came on before HT for the French. He's dynamite right now. He's quick, can use both feet, good in the air and he really puts a shift in every game. It's not only his goals but the amount of assists he has as well.

I shall be checking the pulse of German Football after Easter. Magdeburg vs Sandhausen, Lichtenburg vs Karl Zeiss Jena and Union Berlin vs Bochum. Though ironically enough - if I can get a ticket for Union I'd have to leave at HT to make the flight home... (original fixture was Saturday and got moved to Sunday due to the Europa League). Had to get Magdeburg tickets for Saturday as there are no Berlin Clubs playing that day. Tier two and three play on the Saturday. Anyway, will be good to visit another German City and pay my respects to Jurgen Sparwasser and the European Cup Winners of 1973-74. Was planning a trip to Eisenhuettenstadt on the Polish border, but engineering works put pay to that one. Hey ho. Berlin Clubs 1. Union and Hertha 2. 3. 4. BFC, Viktoria, AK07, Altglienicke, Lichtenburg, Tennis Borussia, 5. Another 6 Clubs 6. Another 10 Clubs

SC Freiburg 0 Bayern Munich 1 (de Ligt 51)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/11ADB/production/_129311427_hi083709619.jpgMatthijs de Ligt's brilliant strike gave Bayern Munich victory at Freiburg and kept them top of the Bundesliga. The Netherlands defender crashed a screamer into the top corner from 25 yards from Jamal Musiala's ball. Freiburg, who knocked Bayern out of the German Cup on Tuesday, had big chances with Ritsu Doan hitting the post and Yann Sommer denying Roland Sallai. Borussia Dortmund remain two points behind Thomas Tuchel's leaders after a 2-1 win over third-placed Union Berlin. Donyell Malen gave Dortmund the lead with Kevin Behrens levelling, before 18-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko came off the bench to score the winner. Bayern have won the past 10 Bundesliga titles and beat Dortmund 4-2 last weekend to overtake their rivals as leaders. German Bundesliga Tablewww.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/bayern-munich/table

Big win for Dortmund. Union still on for a top 4 finish though. Struggling to think of an English team that would be this unlikely to get a Champions League spot. I reckon maybe Millwall (but still at the Old Den). Or possibly Plymouth (at the old Home Park), or Bristol Rovers. Millwall only spent 2 years in the top flight. Plymouth and Rovers have never played top flight football. This is Union's 4th season in the Bundesliga. I've followed them since 2016 when they were in Bundesliga 2. I think seeing that banner unfurled when they were looking good for promotion to the top flight was the one that got me: "Scheisse... wir steigan auf!" (s**t, we're going up!"). It doesn't actually matter how well the Club does on the pitch. It's about culture, identity and core values. When the supporters are aligned with the Club values, it's incredible what can be achieved. I don't think this could be achieved without the 50+1 model. Union are not unique, but they're a bloody good example. UNVEU

Sadio Mane: Bayern Munich suspend forward after claims he punched Leroy Sane..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/8D9E/production/_129345263_gettyimages-1251627673.jpgSadio Mane and Leroy Sane were seen arguing with each other during the latter stages of Tuesday's game Bayern Munich have left Sadio Mane out of their squad for Saturday's league match against Hoffenham amid reports he punched team-mate Leroy Sane. Reports in Germany alleged Mane hit Sane in the face following Tuesday's 3-0 Champions League defeat by Manchester City at Etihad Stadium. The pair reportedly had to be separated by team-mates after the altercation. Bayern said Senegal forward Mane has been dropped because of "misconduct" and confirmed he will also be fined. Bild said former Liverpool player Mane, a two-time African footballer of the year, had complained about the way Germany winger Sane spoke to him after the defeat. After flying back to Germany Mane was picked up privately at the airport while Sane got the team bus. Neither Mane nor Sane have yet to comment on the alleged altercation. Bayern host City in their quarter-final second leg next Wednesday.

Sadio Mane: What's happened to Senegal star at Bayern Munich?..By Constantin Eckner - German football writerichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2B3A/production/_129366011_gettyimages-1251627905.jpgIt seems Sadio Mane's move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich has not paid off for any party involved. The Reds lost one of the cornerstones of their attack, while Bayern did not acquire a player who could at least partly fill the void left by Robert Lewandowski's departure to Barcelona. Mane has not performed to the level we saw during his days at Anfield by any means. So far, the 31-year-old has scored 11 goals in 32 games. What might be shocking is that Mane has come off the bench in eight of these appearances this season. He serves as a bit-part player instead of a key man. To make matters worse, Mane and Leroy Sane got into a physical altercation in the dressing room at the Etihad Stadium following Bayern's 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/15FD2/production/_129366009_whatsubject.jpgThe two already started arguing on the field when, during one of Bayern's few attacks, Sane intended to play a short pass to Mane who instead made a deep run. Moments later, Sane confronted Mane over what he considered to have been a mistake by the substitute, who had been on the pitch for only 14 minutes. Once the pair returned to the dressing room after the game, Mane complained to Sane about the way he was spoken to on the pitch, which led to the altercation and left Sane with a swollen lip. As a result, Bayern's executives decided to suspend Mane from the Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim on Saturday and fine him. While Bayern do not intend to terminate the forward's contract, they were convinced serious punishment was needed. Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel stated that, in his eyes, Mane has received enough punishment, yet the clash has disturbed the team. "I haven't seen the incident myself, as I was in the coaches' room," Tuchel said at a press conference on Friday. "It was important to me that we resolve that matter before the next training session. We did that yesterday morning. We cleared the air. We are not the first team where something like that happens, and we won't be the last. "It has caused a cleansing atmosphere."

As per the other thread - games at Hertha Zehlendorf, Magdeburg and Charlottenburg and soaking up the atmosphere at Union gave me a some insight into German football. Random thoughts. East Berlin is solidly Union. Through Schoneweide, Spindlersfeld and Kopenick there are Union flags everywhere. Every lampost, road sign, is bedecked in red stickers. Every wall has FCB / Union / Eisern daubed on it. Like the whole district bleeds Union. It's like it reflects the Union campaign of a few years ago - where fans gave blood for 10 Euros and then gave that money to the Club. This is possibly the best piece of marketing I have ever heard of, in any industry. Drinking copious amounts of lager out of bottles is almost compulsory. Drinking out in public, along the roads, on the U & S Bahn, at any time of the day is perfectly normal. This does not appear to lead to any trouble. Germans are stereo-typically well behaved and polite. A quiet road will have pedestrian signals. Even when there is no traffic for miles, pedestrians line up and do not cross the road until the little green bear lights up. Orders eh? 33 years since the wall came down, but there is still a huge difference between East and West Berlin. Only a small part of the wall remains along the Spree near Ostbahnhof. To the East dull concrete flats dominate the landscape. Every scrap of land has ramshackle allotments on them. Some are neat and tidy, most look a bit run down. The streets are not spotless. The people are still struggling. Into West Berlin and the architecture is grander. The streets are clean. The people look and dress like they would in the leafy London suburbs. There is still a huge amount of building going on in East and West Berlin. It is a City on the up. Looks like they need to do a lot more 'levelling up'. Maybe this old East German 'underdog' working class ethos is what Union have tapped into and what makes their supporters so fanatical. If you like your history, geography and football... it has to be the best place for long European weekend. Biers are cheap. Public transport is incredibly punctual, clean and efficient. Union away to Monchengladbach today. EISERN UNION.

Borussia Dortmund 4 Eintracht Frankfurt 0ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/DEA2/production/_129449965_gettyimages-1252080597.jpgBorussia Dortmund are Bundesliga leaders at this stage of a season for the first time since 2011/12, when they last won the titleJude Bellingham was among the scorers as Borussia Dortmund thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt to go top of the Bundesliga. England midfielder Bellingham opened the scoring for the home side, finishing into the corner following Julian Brandt's pass. Donyell Malen doubled Dortmund's lead five minutes later and Mats Hummels scored a third just before half-time. Malen got his second goal of the game in the 66th minute as Dortmund stormed to victory. Bayern lost 3-1 earlier in the day and are now second behind their rivals. With five games remaining, Dortmund are looking to win the Bundesliga for the first time since 2012. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/9082/production/_129449963_gettyimages-1484174236.jpg

And a huge win for Union at Monchengladbach. I'll say it again. If Union keep going, it would be the equivalent of Millwall qualifying for the Champions League.

VfL Bochum 1848 1 Borussia Dortmund 1Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund saw their title chances dealt a blow as they were held to a draw at VfL Bochum. The result means second-place Bayern will go top with four games to go if they beat bottom club Hertha Berlin on Sunday. Anthony Losilla's fierce strike from outside the box gave Bochum the lead but Karim Adeyemi tapped in an equaliser two minutes later. Jude Bellingham was denied late on as Bochum battled for the point. Dortmund are top with 61 points but Bayern Munich are just two behind before Sunday's game. Union Berlin are third on 55 points and host Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Could be a cricket score Bayern at home to Hertha! Tricky fixture for Union at home to inform Leverkusen... I'd probably take a point.

Hertha were stuffed by Schalke a couple of weeks ago in a crucial relegation 6 pointer. Schalke are by far the lowest scorers in the Budelsliga with just 26. The next lowest scorers have 36. 5 of Schalke's goals were scored against Hertha in that game. Welcome to Bundesliga 2, Hertha.

SAT 13th MAY 2023 - GERMAN BUNDESLIGA
Bayern Munich 6 FC Schalke 04 0ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/112A8/production/_129721307_gettyimages-1489766196.jpgBayern Munich moved a step closer to the Bundesliga title by cruising past Schalke at Allianz Arena, but Borussia Dortmund beat Borussia Monchengladbach to keep up the pressure on the leaders. Thomas Muller opened the scoring before Joshua Kimmich doubled the hosts' advantage with a penalty. Serge Gnabry scored twice in 15 minutes after the break, while Mathys Tel and Noussair Mazraoui added the gloss. With two matches remaining, Bayern lead second-placed Dortmund by one point. Veteran forward Muller, brought back into the starting line-up, began the rout by scoring his first goal in eight appearances with a calm finish, before Kimmich struck from the spot after Jamal Musiala was brought down in the area. Gnabry smashed in his first at the near post by latching on to Joao Cancelo's pass to score for the third consecutive match, and then doubled his tally shortly after. French teenager Tel added a fifth and Mazraoui surged forward late on to score his first club goal, completing a win that took Bayern closer to an 11th German title in a row. Bayern 25 shots with 14 being on target, FC Schalke 8 shots and none on target.

Huge 4-2 win for Union at home to Freiburg. Effectively a Champions League play-off decider... (Probably). Eisern Union!

Bayern Munich 1 RB Leipzig 3 ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/11827/production/_129791717_gettyimages-1491769269.jpgBayern Munich's hopes of an 11th successive Bundesliga title were dealt a major blow as they lost to Leipzig. Victory for Dortmund at Augsburg on Sunday would lift Edin Terzic's team two points clear at the top heading into the final day. Serge Gnabry finished off a slick move to give Bayern a half-time lead. But Konrad Laimer levelled in the second half before penalties from Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai completed the turnaround. Nkunku sent his spot-kick straight down the middle after being felled in the box by Benjamin Pavard, before Noussair Mazraoui handled to allow Szoboszlai to fire home Leipzig's third. Thomas Tuchel's team travel to Koln on the final day of the season, but wins for Dortmund over Augsburg and at home to Mainz next weekend would secure their first title since 2012. Leipzig are now guaranteed to finish third - and compete in the Champions League again next season - after Saturday's impressive fightback.

Odd day of football. Bayern lose 1-3 at home to Plastic Leipzig. Hertha looked like they were taking the fight to the last game... before conceding a 94th minute Bochum equalizer. Union choked and lost 4-2 at relegation threatened Hoffenheim. Freiburg go level with Union after beating Wolfsburg. Massive game for Dortmund at Augsburg later today. So a lot riding on the lest day of the season at both ends of the table. Union home to Bremen. Freiburg away at Frankfurt (Frankfurt needing win to stand any chance of a Europa League place). Likely that 2 of Schalke, Stuttgart, Bochum join Hertha in relegation / promotion/relegation play off. Darmstadt promoted. Heidenheim and the once mighty Hamburg fighting for the 2nd promotion spot and promotion/relegation play off. In short, it's a damn sight more interesting than the permiersh1t... IMHO.

SATURDAY 27th MAY 2023 - GERMAN BUNDESLIGA - AT SIGNAL IDUNA PARK
Borussia Dortmund v Mainz 05 - 2.30pmBorussia Dortmund will collect their first Bundesliga crown in 11 years if they defeat Mainz at home on Saturday. Dortmund are two points clear of Bayern Munich at the top as they go into the final game of the season. Bayern head to Cologne needing a win, coupled with a draw or defeat for Dortmund, to hand them an 11th successive German top-flight title. "We cannot allow this to be taken from us," said Dortmund sports director Sebastian Kehl. Kehl, who captained the 2011-2012 team that won the league under former boss Jurgen Klopp, added: "We just have to win one more time. "Basically I have a good feeling, but I know that we have to perform really well one more time and then we will deserve it. "When the players ride the bus to the stadium they will be cheered on by the crowds. That will push them." While it has been a rollercoaster of a title race so far, with Dortmund and Bayern trading places at the summit several times, if Edin Terzic's team can finish off the job it will cap a remarkable triumph. 'The team aspect' is keyWhile Dortmund were heavily reliant on Erling Haaland's goals (62 in 67 league games] in recent seasons, they could become champions without a single player reaching double figures this term. The season started with new signing Sebastien Haller - brought in to replace the Manchester City-bound Haaland - being diagnosed with testicular cancer in July. The Ivory Coast forward returned to action six months later after surgeries and chemotherapy and has contributed with seven goals in his past nine games for the club, who still produced enterprising and attacking football in his absence. Former Dortmund midfielder Paul Lambert, who helped them to Champions League glory in 1997, said: "It was a massive blow to him and the club but the way he has come back has been phenomenal. "Haller in the last few games has been a major player for them, but it is the team aspect. The manager deserves a lot of credit for what they have done "Dortmund look like they can score at any moment and at any time. There is no fear factor. They have been relentless at home and look unbeatable at home. You can feel the belief is there." Dortmund have also had to contend with constant media speculation over the future of England midfielder Jude Bellingham, who is nursing a knee injury and doubtful for Saturday's title decider. The 19-year-old has repeatedly been linked with a move and reports suggest Spanish giants Real Madrid are close to finalising a transfer this summer. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/419C/production/_129869761_-334b55bd-0ed2-4096-beed-b7400a827dd0.pngBayern knocked off their perch?Top at Christmas and leaders at the halfway stage, patchy form in 2023 cost Bayern top spot and head coach Julian Nagelsmann his job in March. And while new boss Thomas Tuchel made the perfect start to his tenure with a table-topping 'Klassiker' win over Dortmund, the club that has monopolised Bundesliga titles has not managed to maintain their usual aura of invincibility. A German Cup defeat by Freiburg followed and they were comfortably beaten over two legs by Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. However, until last weekend's shock 3-1 home loss to RB Leipzig they had at least looked on course for some silverware in the form of a 33rd league title. The biggest irony is Bayern will have lost more games, in all competitions under Tuchel, than the man he replaced. Behind the top two, Leipzig are already assured of third place, with FC Union Berlin and Freiburg, level on the same points and vying for the final Champions League spot. Union host mid-table Werder Bremen and know a victory should be enough, given their superior goal difference over Freiburg, who travel to Eintracht Frankfurt. Bayer Leverkusen will hope to hold off Wolfsburg and Frankfurt to secure Europa League football. At the bottom, Schalke, Bochum, VfB Stuttgart and Augsburg are embroiled in four-way fight for survival, with Hertha Berlin already relegated.
