i cant imagine a genuine fan from outside of the premiership elite clubs not seeing the danger of allowing academy teams to play against proud smaller clubs. league 1 2 and the conference are very competitive leagues enthusiastically followed by fans, introducing academy teams into these divisions would destroy lower league football and render it pointless except to service the big clubs.

Anyway, didn't most Chelsea tickets go to season ticket holders? Curse those season-ticket-holding tourists!

Mike, Will you actually pay to get in? You usually don't. UTG chewy ...You seem to know the price of everything and the value of nothing- cos you are loaded -deacon blue
No such thing as a free lunch or ticket for moi. How's the crappy fanzine selling ..you giving them out free now. Does your asbo allow trips outside of Bristol ?
It's a decent fanzine :-) didn't they both sell out? Likewise I always enjoy your articles in the programme Mike, very interesting and informative. Anyway let's play nicely shall we?

Mike, with respect, I don't think you have respected other peoples opinion on the EFL trophy farce. You haven't asked why they aren't attending, but IMO made snide digs at "Where will these people be"
You know why a lot of people won't be at the game so don't know what the point of your posts are other than to seemingly wind some people up

with respect Peter why is Chewy asking me yet again if I am paying for the Reading game ...its a cup game and yes have paid for one ticket. My comments were to encourage people to attend as OUR CLUB is in a competition. I would do the same if it was a Glos Cup tie or FA Youth Cup tie.The club needs income from such matches ...so we can make new signings etc simples....no ulterior motive from me. I will accept an apology from Chewy as well ...but wont get one

Every now and again I despair of this forum and feel like walking away, attacking fellow gasheads in any way is not what it is about and when it descends into unpleasant comments then I don't want to know. You want to read logical, informative threads, but sadly sometimes they turn too personal and frankly boring, and negates the point of having a forum.

A competition that seems to have been set up deliberately to insult and belittle OUR CLUB.
And your posts have not been 'encouraging', they have been passive-aggressive sniping at those with a different opinion to you.

Why can you not see that us being asked to play a Reading development side is outright insulting and a clear gateway to the destruction of football in this country? I expected someone with a decent grasp of history to be able to also be able to look further ahead to the fututre a little better.
If people turn up in their numbers it gives the message loud and clear that we endorse B teams.
Personally, I find your smug attitude slightly repulsive. Claiming ignorance that you would have posted this for any other game e.g Gloucester Cup is insulting. Give it a rest. You know that is not true.
This was forced through without fan OR CLUB consultation. Many clubs have said that if they knew this is what they would have voted for they would have voted against. They were misled. Do you even know this? What suitable alternative do we have, in the absence of the EFL consulting fans at all?
But no. Have a cheap pop at people who went to the Chelsea game. Productive.
People are deciding to not attend this game because they love the club and want to safeguard it's future. You are personally attacking people in this thread who have donated their entry fee to charity already. Did you know that either?
Massively disappointed in this thread.

Just a thought - I believe the Pompey fans are going to pay to enter all the games in this competition but will then walk out of the ground when the teams come on the pitch. I don't know if that means the academy team or Rovers. The idea is that Pompey won't suffer financially but the press will see loud and clear the views of the proper supporters.
This method would keep harrybuckle happy whilst still making the point that we don't accept academy teams having any place in this competition which, let's be honest, is only relevant anyway once you reach the area final. But is it worth a fiver to make a point?

There's about 4 or 5 opinions on this thread but the subject of the thread is really interesting. I quite like it that it has worked up opinion as the subject is sensitive - it's about principles of the club, league and the supporter when choosing to spend money on their team on a game that has no/little/some merit.
Personally, the principle of the competition has been ill-conceived to give youngsters 'experience' but intentionally belittling professional footballers and clubs lower down the pyramid. Just as much as I'm against the notion of this competition I'm also against the notion of a Rovers B-Team in the Southern League or the FA Vase.
The greater question for the FA is how do young footballers get experience if there are too many foreigners in our domestic league. Before BREXIT my answer would have been that they either drop down a level where they would consistently play or they go abroad if they can't get in their local club. But encouraging every club in the top two tiers to have academies will merely mean more young people have a chance to be professional footballers up until they realise there isn't enough professional footballer jobs to go around. It's a bit like Blair's plan to quadrouple the amount of universities in the 90s

I'm going to guess they have a sort of 50/50 ticket like us so just turn up spend the admission money on that and then leave. Club get cash and attendance is pisspoor. Though be advised if going to the Pompey game don't arrive 5 mins late as you'll be crushed by the 16,000 people leaving that Mike thinks will be attending.
