His team selection was all wrong, no pace upfront, with a league 1 striker (Easter), ex-championship forward (balanta) and most in-form forward (Ellis) all on the bench to make way for the impotent Taylor, awkward monk house and sedentary ollie Clarke then DC has thrown away the match. That's poor management. Remember Halifax are not full time too. You are assuming that those players were fully fit and could be effective over 90 minutes. I didn't think either Balanta or Easter looked close to match fit when they came on. They were both puffing after 5 minutes. You also have to take into consideration the season - arguably we've already rushed back key players twice this year and seen them sit out for long periods as a result. I want Easter to play the majority of the remaining games not yank a hamstring because he's not up to 90mins right now. Taylor for me was our best attacking player until he was subbed. Ellis by all accounts looked dreadful when he started the last game and has never impressed when starting up front. . If we'd started with the team that we finished with we probably would have been thumped on that pitch. The major advantage was bringing quality players on against part-timers with tired legs. Ideally, yes, some of them would have started but if they're not up to it then they're not up to it and it's about introducing them at a point that they'll make the biggest impact. Having a bench that can hurt people is a seriously major asset. It wasn't a day for wingers - whenever the ball went wide attacks were shut down because the condition of the pitch was so bad out there 3-4 touches were needed just to bring it under control. The problems we had were mainly at the back. So I thought it was reasonable squad management on the whole though not destined to be popular.

Two good goals scored again yesterday, particularly the second. It seemed to me like a pure class strike from Ellis Harrison . . . aka super sub. If any Football League scouts were watching the game, and saw that goal go in, then I think that they would be very impressed.
Watching the highlights of the game, the downside was definitely the state of the pitch. In the run-up to the game I saw it described as a ploughed field, and it was.

If players are not match fit then it's better to have then start games to then bring off rather than have then brought on but having to chase the game as we are losing. In the end it wasn't good squad management as we drew the game when really we should have won it with the players that had left the pitch. I'd fancy the team maintaining a lead by bringing on Taylor, Monkhouse and Lockyer (in the 'defensive' forward role, an extra midfielder and third defender respecively) rather than rectify a losing position as we had done. However, this is assumption and the great thing about being a fan. Our squad is also larger now and we do have extra players were were fit such as Trotman, Gosling and a few of the young uns.

Ellis Harrison is currently the go to goal scorer. Clarke IMO needs to drop his mate Monkhouse, play Easter up top with Ellis, and move Taylor behind the front two.
