Turley having an xray today, deal should be done this week, 2 clubs have come in for him but he's adamant he wants to sign for us.

I hope so! What a right kick in the teeth that would be if he signs elsewhere after training with us.
Hopefully the deal is done and dusted ASAP.

Just to let everyone know, James McNamara confirmed this an hour or two ago so WC's source is good!
I would be very pleased to see this deal get over the line as I think he will prove to be a fantastic addition for us. He and Trotman at centre half would be a very good partnership I think, although it will leave Lockyer, Parkes and McChrystal vying for a place on the bench (or right back as well in TL's case). That sort of competition is exactly what any aspiring team needs to have and DC would have defensive options that every other club in this division would love to have.
Fingers crossed the x-ray goes well today and we get him signed on soon.

Just to let everyone know, James McNamara confirmed this an hour or two ago so WC's source is good! James McNamara posted the Turley information on Twitter before this post was made. A real pet hate of mine (It's the academic in me) is not giving credit to the source. If Westcountry (or anyone else for that matter) received their information from a private source then so be it. If it was received via a source (Such as McNamara's Twitter) that can be revealed then please quote that individual. It might seem petty, but I have had my work (and words) used before without credit and it is infuriating.

Sorry it looks like i copied the BEP reporter but i had a text about this late last night, and had to wait until i got to work to get internet access to post this. I was also told one of the clubs was a league club, so fair play to DC for persuading him to sign, Turley obviously has enjoyed training with the group these last few weeks.

Sorry if this sounds negative, but has anyone actually seen him play . Is he any good ? What we need to get us in the top 5 (minimum) this season is better quality players. I hear he's quick, but what's his distribution like ? has he got a good first touch and can he tackle/head it well. That's what we're lacking at the back !

Worked with Jamie at FGR, pace, power, good in the air, very imposing and good distribution from C/H, can play full back but definetely not his preferred position, this is a top signing !

Seen him play about 7 or 8 times, a very good defender at this level and a leader. Great signing.

With Turley signing i would say we are more likely to play 3-5-2 a bit more than we have been. We are starting to build a very large squad that has quality right through it, which means that our impact subs can play a big role in helping us win games. I just hope people don't start to moan because certain players are sat in the stand because with everyone fit and healthy the additions of Balanta & Turley are going to mean anywhere between 2-5 first players won't even make the bench. IMO the squad has a lot more depth & quality to it than there was last season.

Really think CB position needs strengthening, RW (Balanta ? although he was described as a left winger) and still a strong, sharp-shooting forward.

I might be being thick here, but who are our 2 non-contract players? I've been wracking my brains but can't seem to recall.

Sorry if this is a silly follow-up question. But what exactly is a non-contract player? Someone that you have registered with the league, but you pay on a week to week basis ? (and with Mitchell on loan at W-S-M we may not be paying all of his weekly wage)

(and with Mitchell on loan at W-S-M we may not be paying all of his weekly wage) Non-Contract is exactly what it sounds like, a player we have registered, almost certainly are paying but we can let go or they can go at any time. See it as the footballing version of a temp. We hold their registration in the Conference so with Mitchell his registration would have been passed on via the loan agreement. I'd personally like to see Rovers look to register some Southern League players as Conference players just as back up. You can be registered with Southern League & Conference teams at the same time.
